Guidetti, life without the death-wish opponent

845

I see the story that Feyenoord are chasing John Guidetti has lasted more days than I expected.  John Guidetti is a likeable guy and seems to have enjoyed his time at Celtic, but he desperately needs to show some form before the end of the season if he is to attract the attention of Feyenoord or any team of that calibre.

One aspect often overlooked about Guidetti is his inexperience.  The player is still only 22 and had started only 30 games before arriving at Celtic Park last season, there’s a good chance that by the end of the season he will have played more games for Celtic than anyone else.  On paper, a season at Celtic was a chance to sort his career out, grab first team football at a prestigious club who were short of a centre forward.  Conversely, being kept out of the team by Leigh Griffiths will damage his reputation.

Barcabhoy sent me an interesting summary of Celtic’s material loss since the liquidation of Rangers.  The figures below compare the three years before Rangers liquidation with the two and a half years since.

As you see, even though we are comparing a shorter time period after liquidation, Celtic’s turnover and profitability is still miles better than when we had to compete with Rangers.

This should end any nonsense about Celtic needing or in any way missing Rangers.  We lost some revenue streams: domestic commercial and ticket income, but the slipstream to European revenues have more than made up for the gap.  More importantly, we are also no longer caught in an arms race with a death-risk opponent, allowing us to bring costs below income and plan longer than the current season.

I’m sure he is a nice lad and the firm says nothing too objectionable in outlining their work and philosophy with the Ibrox fans.

I was not advocating any boycott of them.

I was just enjoying a cheap laugh at the ambiguous juxtaposition of their work with the Ibrox club and with The Charlatans.

Should we hire this marketing agency?

Marketing and getting our message out there is one area we need overhaul on.

It would be interesting to know if the ‘hire’ is for a particular facet of marketing aimed at a particular Celtic fan or are this company looking at our whole approach?

its just a particular niggle o mine and an area that is full of opportunity if a simple and effective point is put across to the Celtic fan.

It is something that needs joined up thinking and along with a Digital overhaul of Celtic park/retail,and the introduction of a membership scheme.

Having asked for a move will lead to a delay.

In spite of all the doom merchants who regularly claim that the ground is less than half full, between 60 and 70% of the seats are taken by ST holders. I assume they will have to be given the option of renewing before the Club know which seats are available for you and yours. Best of luck, anyway, in finding a suitable group of seats.

  25. British fighter jets have been scrambled to escort two Russian bombers away from UK airspace.

Typhoons were dispatched from RAF Lossiemouth to intercept the Bear H Bombers on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident is not believed to be part of the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Joint Warrior war games.

An MoD spokesman said: “RAF quick reaction alert Typhoon fighter aircraft were launched today after Russian aircraft were identified flying close to UK airspace.

“The Russian planes are being escorted by the RAF in the UK area of interest.”

Voyager aircraft based at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire are providing air-to-air refuelling support. The operation is being coordinated from the national Air Defence Operations Centre.

The incident comes hours after HMS Argyll was deployed to monitor a Russian destroyer and two other ships as they passed through the English Channel.

  27. Mort,

Great to see you posting once again. Please give my best to your better half and the wean.

Statistics do nothing whatever for me. I don’t think Guidetti has ever looked like a real footballer. He falls over too easily, for a start. If he wants to stay, he might be better next season as he is relatively inexperienced. He is the only player, imo, who doesn’t seem to have benefitted from our manager’s regime; at least, physically.

Give me Garry Hooper every day of the week. By the way, I would rather retain Scepovic than Stokes. The former can only improve. Stokes seems to me to have gone backward.

  28. Why are we still debating whether or not we do or do not want Rangers in the top flight?

People are debating this as if they have the power to stop it happening.

    It’s all moot.

If Rangers come out on top in the play-offs they will be in the premiership next season.

If they do not reach and win the play-off final, they will remain in the Championship.

I hope and pray that they don’t make it, but that’s all I can do.
