  1. Wee reminder.

Celtic Trust AGM at 12 noon in the London Rd Social Club. You don’t have to be a member to attend.

  2. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

Good to hear that yer oul fella is still in the mix Bobby M.

We are slowly turning into a bookies team mo chara.

Never thought I’d ever say that about Celtic.

    HH.

  3. RIDDOR – examples of reportable incidents:

    Q. Are sporting injuries reportable?

    A. No, if the injury arose out of the normal participation of the activity. Injuries should be reported if they were due to defective equipment or failings in the organisation and management of an event.

Probably Yes if – the pitch collapsed (and a player fell down the hole) – definitely if the goal frame collapsed and caused a player to suffer a broken limb or a head injury.

Complaining to the HSE would be a pointless pursuit.

  4. i'vehadtochangemyname on

CT giving us a red which wasn’t a red – no shock ! I get it , it’s gonna happen. What was disturbing was the warping of reality on BT commentary at halt time. Thank God Sutton spoke sense. It was clear they were trying to come up with a rationale justifying the sending off and then adopted it as the truth. It was like a microcosm for all mainstream media’s mo for dealing with the poxco fupping up. We will adopt the ‘truth’, say it’s the truth and hopefully timmy will go away

  5. Just watched the highlights. Fully supports my view that it was a perfectly good tackle. If that is outlawed now then the art of defending is one akin to basketball now.

Yeah, we were poor but last night my thoughts were that we had enough chances and only ourselves to blame. I think my greatest distress is that I don’t ever expect us to play well now or be able to react to any sort of set back. Another chance missed to show that we can dig it out and have some character.

Our manager not publicly supporting his player is another puzzler.

Attendances will be interesting during the week. As I said last night, I’m off to get money to cover both buses for my CSC for the games this week.

    Football without fans is nothing.

  6. I’d assume health and safety would be the compliance officers job no/yes? All it needs is for a couple of people to make a complaint, well! That’s all it took to get Neil Lennon a couple of banned games for allying an opposing team player a Lon Channy picked up on pitch side mics, and reported by upset viewers .

    Greenpinata,

I’m sorry you feel people getting home to their families after work alive and uninjured is a problem because of all the paperwork, I don’t share your reservations.

The players and refs supposedly know the rules of the game and still ignore them, so we should just continue to ignore it too, the refs are there to ensure the game is played to the rules if they don’t then people get injured and loose their livelihoods, if it takes a few courses to highlight their legal responsibilities and drive home that they will be held legally responsible like all other employees and employers in the country then it is an exercise well worth the bother.

I’d rather see an H&S match report than what is used now to help cover incompetence and cheating.

I’d expect the game to change for the better very quickly, the only reasons I think it’s not in place is that players are expendable to their employers and administrators of the game, they are getting away with it.

  8. 16roads….. Betting with the head is bad enough but betting with the heart

I think Jobo/CRC are more harmful to Celtic than any referee I think the hoops should be banned from LMS……they knocked me out last time and I couldn’t even buy back in, they are on my “banned” list, nothing worse than losing a bet without the emotional attachment

  9. I was really angry with our manager letting the ref off the hook last night , rather than support him in his sending off decision and open criticism on his own player, he should have been fuming at the assaults that were allowed to pass for tackles. How Mc kinnon stayed on the park was criminal both his challenges were red card offences until we meet this head on it will continue unabated. The stats came on the screen that Hamilton had committed 26 fouls to our 8 yet we are down to ten men.

  10. Haven’t watched it back but from where I was Boyata clearly won the ball.

Not seen Ronny’s post match interview but if he did state, as I’ve seen reported, that it was a red card, then Ronny should learn from Wenger.

  11. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Praecepta,

Thank you, would deliberately trying injure an opposing player be considered normal participation ?

  12. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Martybhoy59. As a Ronny supporter I am becoming concerned he looks to be losing confidence as he sits or stands by the trackside looking lost.Last nights after match comments for me were totaly wrong. However he in my opinion is getting no support from anyone at Parkhead I fear he may be getting cast a drift and will be replaced in the summer . H.H.

  13. lennon's passion hated by the clique on

Health and safety officer please get involved. Celtic would be the laughing stock of football. Expert opinion mind.

  14. Morning Timland from a very cold hun free mountain valley.

    A couple of things.

The HA player was for sure offside, and even if CT thought it was a foul, it was never a red, our keeper was rushing in and there was at least two defenders in the area who were covering, so it was not an obvious goal scoring opportunity, a yellow at most.

For RD to hang Boyata out to dry was a disgrace, for him not to mention the tackles on Tierney was a disgrace.

    Canaman

You will have no joy with the HS angle, jeez, the club say nada anyways, can you see them going down that route, they are happy at the back of the bus waiting for the OF to get back on track, it’s what they live for.

  15. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

Got to say, watching on CTV last night and Alan Sneddon’s commentary was very supportive of the ref which for me was poor, I liked the guys that tore I to the refs a few months ago, I’m hoping it’s not a policy change from above to give the refs the benefit of the doubt, but it would explain Ronny’s comments last night.

  16. You don’t need to be a shareholder to join the Celtic Trust folks, you automatically become one by joining.

    Typical lies and misinformation.

  17. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

    True enough GFTB.

The way I look at it is that Celtic win plus ya get through to the next round, it’s like a bonus.

Ah well I’ll probably still choose Celtic next time once again.

Good luck to the remaining competitors.

God bless the Celtic of Glasgow and John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

    HH.

  18. Lennons Passion the media would love the H&S stuff, I would prefer refs just to red each game the same way

hope LPjunior wasn’t on the hoops in LMS !

  19. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Regarding Ronny’s comments about Boyata. Is it not likely the case that he has tried the softly-softly approach and he thinks it’s now time to get a bit tougher? Let’s face it – it’s not exactly his first mistake of the season. Maybe the manager thinks it’s time for him to get a grip and stand up and be counted?

  20. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Glass2/3…,

The player never made a mistake, he made an excellent challenge and won the ball, the manager should have waited till he seen the tackle from a few different angles before commenting.

We need to be appealing the red card and commenting on the dangerous refereeing.

  21. RD was critical of players missing 1 to 1 last night, if it wasn’t for The Griff this season we wouldn’t be at the top of the league, to start criting your players in public is well out of order.

  22. Valebhoy7.59

I feel your frustration and anger.

I feel exactly the same as you and share the same frustrations and anger .

  23. My friends in Celtic,

This is a Celtic blog, so I would expect the vast majority of us to watch games through green tinted specs.

I watched the game last night in the company of many undoubted neutrals, most from south of the border. To a man they thought that Boyata deserved to walk. I disagreed and still do, although I can understand why the referee did what he did.

Most also thought that Chris Sutton’s thoughts and comment were biased towards Celtic as an ex player. I agreed with most of what Chris Sutton said last night. The term ” soup taker” is inappropriate in general and specifically towards CS.

Hail, Hail to all and especially to those who made the effort to go last night.

  24. Having watched last night’s game, it reminds me of Barnes and Mowbray all over again.

We are gradually getting worse under RD, and in 4 years we have gone from a team where you would fancy our chances against virtually anyone at home in Europe, to one that struggles to hold onto a lead against a team with about 1/50 th of our resources.

If we win the league this year, which I would say is no more than 60/70 % likely, then it will be primarily down to the efforts of a goal scorer who the manager wouldn’t give a look in last year, and started this season as 2nd choice.

As a ST holder for 26 years, since the days when it cost £89 in the jungle, the appeal of going on Wednesday, and supporting my team through thick and thin, as I have done for over 40 years, just leaves me felling empty.

Sadly with Barnes and Mowbray, the final catalyst was humiliating defeats, and I fear that is where we are now heading under Deila.

  25. Canamalar 10:35

    Unfortunately not!

RIDDOR doesn’t cover an operative (player) using a pair of dangerous boots nor a supervisor/management (MiB) knowingly allow use of said dangerous equipment.

Sporting Rules (set by the Body/Association) should encompass ALL injuries to participants as a result of physical contact. Generally there are provisions within those rules to cover acts of violence by means of equipment; smacking someone with a bat, racket or corner-flag – these can result in police involvement/prosecution.

Sports Injury Insurance generally covers the serious victims (player/club). Can’t think (off the top of my head) where an Insurer pursued the miscreant for damages.

The HSE are more interested in the safe organisation/management of sporting events and the use of bespoke sports equipment (e.g. gyms).

  26. Glasstwothirdsfull

    Absolutely bang on!

That’s what personal responsibility is all about. Boyata makes dozens of mistakes every single game he’s played for us but 90% of the folk on here would prefer to focus on the mistake of a ref.

We don’t pay the referee, well, not directly anyway.

We should be focusing on our side of the pitch. Boyata had decisions to make, he should have run further on and got into position to make a clean tackle, he didn’t, he tackled from behind and his studs touched the ball, if it all, end of story.

If Deila is “hanging Boyata out to dry”, that can only mean one thing,… Boyata was at fault… Why then blame the referee?

When we beat Suduva 8-1. We tackled hard, won the ball, hard, and effectively, aggressively kicked Suduva into submission. That sort of play is legal in football and the amount of whinging on here about tough football makes wonder whether people on here actually want to win or would rather be beat by mibbery instead.

These people are not supporters in my book. I want to see our team win 8-1, or 1-0 playing aggressively, but fairly.

Will have a wee read to see how to apply but already looks hopeful.

Responsibility is high on the agenda in this document.

Praecepta, if you have time would like your opinion too.

  28. Bsr@9.17

Couldn’t believe that myself. Heard Skippy was daft but I didn’t realise Allah had seen fit to leave a couple of slates off his roof. Must be easy to get a job analysing games, certainly knowledge of the laws of the game isn’t a prerequisite.

    Corkie@10.01

Like yourself I would have been screaming for it but when I seen it back I know, according to the laws of the game, we shouldn’t have got it. Let’s hope for a few better results today.

    Gftb

See above ” the ball didn’t divert”. Sweet suffering Jesus.

  29. Lol, we know you don’t need to be a share holder I said it would be nice if you where one, that’s the objective right? No sweeping now you know your job get shareholders, the guys just became a member, and what’s his first job? Canvassing CQN punters, standing room only at the CT meeting? Thankfully no.

  30. I hope I am wrong, but, I have a bad feeling about this team being able, despite what is put in their road of winning this league, RD continues to say the same things as we go out of cups flop in Europe and turn in poor performances in the league , to me morale looks very poor, he doesn’t have the solutions because he cannot see the problems. Whatever happens all the first team management need replacing and a change of plan at the top of the club.

  31. i'vehadtochangemyname on

happy clapper, miserable bassa, left , came back, sick of the bored, love the bored, love the new cqn, hate the cqn, ronniethusiast, think it’s time for him to , kojo, not kojo- doesn’t matter what we are here bhoys, we’re going to have to stick together when the newco arrive because the cheating being will shocking and endemic.

  32. Bob o baldy

Playing fairly you say….would that be in accordance with the laws of the game. Boyata got the ball…end of.

Stockholm syndrome doesn’t even begin to describe it.

    HH

  33. The Battered Bunnet on

Must confess to becoming just a little weary of seeing the same issue in every game we play.

When we’re in possession, the full backs are instructed to play wide and ahead of the ball. Often a centre half will step forward into midfield leaving just one defender behind the ball.

We misplace the pass, and the opposition are able to create a chance with just a single pass.

Happens in virtually every game we play nowadays.

Last week took it to the extreme when GMS missed his pass to Brown at the edge of the ICT box. The ICT player picked the ball up 10 yards from his own box, and in a single pass from that position, put Roberts through on goal, Sviatchenko being the sole defender with Boyata 15 yards ahead of him.

Last night Sviatchenko stepped forward and missed the pass to Allan on the left. Tierney is ahead (no harm in that) on one side, while Lustig is hugging the touchline ahead of the ball on the other. Lustig is, at that moment, no more active in play than Hamilton Tim in the stand behind him. He is able to neither influence play nor offer cover.

Boyata is isolated, and has stayed in his own position on the right hand side in the centre. He is the only Celtic player behind the ball carrier Sviatchenko, and is 40 yards away from him.

In a Classic defensive system, Boyata would have moved across to Sviatchenko’s position, and Lustig likewise into Boyata’s. Not this team. Not this ‘system’. Boyata stays where he is, Lustig stays wide and high.

Hamilton’s Gordon intercepts the ball, steps forward and releases Morris into the space, directly through on goal. Boyata is penalised for the recovering tackle and is sent off.

I’ve been watching it all season. Every game the same, irrespective of the opposition. From Champions League qualifiers to cup ties versus minnows, we concede chances and goals from the same situation week after week after week.

    It’s really rather tiresome.

  34. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Praecepta,

    From the link above

Successful prosecutions and civil actions involving sports activities, such as:

    • the referee of a rugby match when, in 1991, a junior player suffered spinal injury following a series of scrum collapses (duty of care);

I remember harping on about duty of care the first time I raised this subject.

  35. Even if Boyata hadn’t touched the ball, which he did, we had two defenders and a keeper who would have stopped the obvious goal scoring opportunity, so it was never a red card.

  36. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Canamalar – maybe he did get the ball. Ronny seemed more upset that he had made the challenge – said he should have stayed on his feet. This sounds like it is something they have spoken about before. As I said maybe he’s just trying a different way of getting through to the player.
