We’ve talked about the big changes needed at the end of the season for a while now, specifically in terms of the manager’s position. I was never in favour of firing Ronny midseason. By that stage the die was cast for European football, and we were nip and tuck with Aberdeen in a fight for the league.
My guess was that Ronny could deliver the league, and I expected a cup or two as well. The cups have gone – and may have been won had we changed manager months ago, but we could also have appointed the wrong caretaker (a high probability) and reduced our title prospects. The decision then was what was the greater risk to the league title. All other things being equal, sitting tight was most probably going to deliver the league.
We’re now three wins from becoming champions. Ronny is one of only two Celtic managers never to have lost a league title, and whatever disappointments there have been, he’s applied himself honestly and openly. He’s also a title winning part of our history and we need to handle our history well, even as a project concludes. Lessons from ’78 still rankle with some.

Scott Brown should have been sold the day his infamous kebab picture came out. Worst Celtic captain I have seen in my 43 years supporting the club.
Handling our history well Paul(?)
Well the eggs are truly in the silent basket. Please you and Peter not let LNS and the masons break them.
Forgiveness is free, the dragons from the conscience, well they will take their own price.
In God I trust, everybody else… you have not earned it.

I bet that kebab would have played better than Scott Brown on Sunday.
The kebab wouldnt have chucked it:)

In God we trust, everyone else needs evidence.

You remind me about all that can be good in Scots.
A true tim.
Wish we had a fan like you on the board.
Bit off topic but has anyone been following how Henderson has being doing at Hibs?
Always seemed to have a bit about him which we could have done with on Sunday.
New manager/five year plan ?
five year plan/five way agreement ?
five way agreement/next seasons ticket prices ?
next seasons ticket prices/five year plan…
five year plan/five way agreement and the SECTARIAN POUND – AND THE BLOOD OF CELTIC SUPPORTERS PAINTED THE PAVEMENTS RED.
Just like before.
Just like before.
And everybody lived happily ever after…. except for the dead Celtic Supporters and their living parents who live the hell of life know as out-living your children.
Is money really worth it….
Is the auld firm really worth it….
Is who the feck our next manager going to be worth a single iota of the capacity of your brains….
Viva the Auld Firm and a fond farewell to any chance of life without sectarianism in the West of Scotland.
I’m just another Celtic supporter at the end of his day going to bed.
I won’t cry tonight, I won’t cry for the red blood they’ll have to wash of Glasgow’s pavements on years to come.
I stopped crying when they were allowed to introduce the five-way-agreement and we endorsed it.
Any hun can stab you in the back. The SFA can stab you in the back. When Celtic stab their own in the back…. well, who can you ever trust again.
Tell me, just in case I am making a massive mistake and being unkind… this silence, this protracted silence…
Is it going to be a nuclear silence like the dossier?
Will it go bang, like big boom, or ka-ching! ka-ching! ka-ching! ka-ching! ka-ching!

Did you get the feeling at the time of kebabgate, that SB set it up himself, in a message to his management team? I did.
I’ve raised many a concern over the past 2 days since that sickening defeat, and most of it has been vented towards the hierarchy, PL in particular.
There’s something else which is seriously bothering me, which I have omitted to mention in my previous posts, and it comes on the back of a comment from another thread yesterday whereby BSR mentioned that we were incapable of recruiting.
Whilst I whole heatedly agree with that comment, it is frighteningly concerning that until now we appear to have made no such efforts in the background to recruit a replacement for RD.
This in turn begs the questions;
What if we had sneaked through on penalties on Sunday? What if we do retain the league, albeit stuttering over the line by a few points?
Would this have been enough for the board to be content with RD?
IMO, all the indicators would lead me to believe that, were the above scenarios to be true, then RD would still be in the dugout on the first game of next season.
This again takes us back to the PL debate – just what is he hoping for us to achieve? The more I deliberate over this, the more I am convinced his sole focus is to ‘try’ and win a league. We may have to wait another 12 months to determine whether he is content with a second place finish!
I sincerely hope (and it this stage I do believe, that with the correct appointment) that the defeat on Sunday leads us to better things.
Chris1888
I don’t see how they can leave Ronny in place until we try to stagger over the line. If the players haven’t been been trying for their manager up to now, what makes us think they will start now? Crazy decisions being made to endanger the league title.

in the 43 years since my first game, another defeat at Hampden, some of today’s celtic support are the worst I have witnessed in that time. The greatest ever Celt, Jinky, wouldn’t have stood a chance with fans like today’s.

You pull your neck in mate. You are making me blush and besides I am one of Brother Walfrid’s children.
If you don’t mind I will accept the compliment about being a good Scotsman, I like to think I am. Too many Scots forget then are Scottish.
I am Scottish and I am a Celtic Supporter, not even God can ever take that away from me. At times it is all I have.

Nay, nay and thrice nay.
It may suggest that such questions should be posed, but it does not ‘beg the question’.

I’ve already made my thoughts clear on PL’s ambitions ( or lack of)
Scott Brown. Cmon bhoys. Yes he’s struggling now, nearing the end most probably, but I’m not buying into him being as hopeless as he’s now being portrayed.
I think the guy gave his all for us, and whilst his all wasn’t enough this season, he’s been a valuable player for us over the years.
Chris1888-I think you’re right mate,he would have been given another chance next season.
Peter Lawwell is not the problem. Peter Lawwell is good at his job. Peter Lawwell is very good at his job.
Who writes his job description?
I know he is a CEO. I know.
Favourite Uncle
He’s like me and you he’s a……
TWISTS N TURNS -I heard Brown’s hip problem has returned, could be true given the way he’s played since coming back,a good rest, get it sorted, chuck Scotland, and i think there’s another couple of years left in the tank.Agree, some of the stick he has taken has been over the top IMO HH

Surely only someone not thinking properly or with psychological problems would arrange to be seen in a public street in that state just in order to cock a shoot as his manager’s dietary restrictions. It much have cost his reputation a lot. Is it not more likely that he is still suffering from the tragic loss of his sister? And may have been drinking to drown his sorrows.
He should be grateful to his manager for the compassion which was shown to him and it is a moot point whether he has repaid RD’s faith in him.
HH
Bada
Be interesting how a new manager views his worth.
WGS and NL certainly admired him as a player.
Time waits on no man though……..
Twists n Turns – Spot On.
The guy could hardly run at the end of the game.
His injuries have been a result of the efforts he has put in over the years.
Not to mention playing whilst grieving.
I’ll listen to WGS, NFL, RD, his teammates and various others before I listen to anyone on here with regards our captain.
twists n turns:
mate no CEO gets paid out his bonuses unless he meets expectations.
Who sets the benchmark for bold Peter?
And if the benchmarks were moved a wee bit like goalposts and hosepipes down necks, well I can only make myself a cheese toastie because I hate to think where we would be today if the shackles had truly come off Peter.

Haha. Not guilty in this instance. :)
Hindsight and more importantly knowledge are wonderful things – I have none of them – but
1) Lawwel continues as CEO reporting to DD
2) However he relinquishes football related matters to a Director of Football
3) Appoint a Director of Football who reports to DD
4) Appoint a Manager who reports to the Director of Football
Number 3 DoF agrees a budget with both PL and DD and has complete responsibility for that Budget he may need to sell to buy ??
Number 4 Manager works with number 3 DoF and agrees who they need to strengthen the team
Number 3 DoF works to get the players agreed with 3 Manager
Only thing missing who is number 3 DoF and number 4 Manager ???

Er I’ll say this again. We’re not in control of Aberdeen’s league performance.
You go through a season a few defeats or draws here and there, you win the league by 12 pts. For the sake of discussion let’s say that’s this season. Many don’t think it’s been a good season.
Next season. 100% record no losses, no draws. Aberdeen have a remarkable season. They lose 4 games to us but otherwise they’re also 100%. We win by 12pts. Is that good enough?
Or you lose 7 and draw 7 but still manage to win the league with 79 pts. However along the way you beat one of Europe’s top teams. Is that a good season?
This is not a suggestion that RD is up to the job. He’s not but we’re guilty of potentially making this job a poisoned chalice.
An Teach Solais
You could be correct. At the time it just seemed very contrived.
President Clinton got away with abuse of Cuban cigars and he had his finger on the button. Scott Brown got pissed with a kebab!!!!
My lord, my God, I’ll get pissed with a kebab and I won’t abuse a Cuban cigar, never.
They are not art gallery statues, they are human beings with failings.
Man up Scott, next time puke.

THEGREENMAN@ All over the blog
You are ‘bouncing around’ like a budgie on speed, or maybe on heat, today.
Sunday’s result is ‘manna from heaven’ for you and those like you on here.
You obviously feel that it vindicates you in your hatred of Peter Lawwell and the board – in fact you say so yourself.
While most Celtic fans are either in a state of shock and/or deep disappointment, you and others like you are revelling in it – it is the result you really wanted to further your never-ending and tedious narrative – in fact I bet you are even hoping we blow the league.
You don’t actually have to post anything at all – just stick your moniker up, because that’s all you EVER say – Lawwell ( bad mouth bad moth bad mouth), Board (bad mouth bad mouth bad mouth).
On Sunday, if the team had applied themselves and taken their chances we could have had a repeat of the 6-2 scoreline, even although the overall performance was poor.
Like so many times over the past twenty months, we have been let down squarely by the football department – the players and the management ( and some decisions) must shoulder the blame for the last three semi-final defeats and those against Maribor and Malmo – we had all these ties at our mercy and blew the lot.
With the playing squad we have, we could/should have been in the last two CL groups, had a treble last season and be heading for another this season.
We have spent almost 20 million pounds since Ronnie arrived and signed twenty-three players – we have a wages budget that bigger than all other teams in Scotland put together – and yet we under perform – that is a football department problem, NOT, a boardroom problem.
The CEO must ultimately take responsibility for the appointment of the management team, however up until a few weeks ago, when the treble was still on, very few were demanding Ronny’s head – it would have been seen as ludicrous to sack him at that time.
Recent events have left ‘real’ Celtic fans confused and saddened, however for the likes of you and yours, all that matters is that you have an even ‘bigger stick’ to beat Celtic FC.
Is Scott Brown a tax cheat?
Did he deprive the doctors and nurses and firemen and soldiers and street cleaners and school jannies their wages?
Did he take an EBT and lie about it?
Did he play for two season with pain killing injections?
No he did not.
It was three.
The Resolute Mr Pastry
I don’t give a toss that the huns beat us on Sunday. Not a toss. I am not that insular.
I see you have not matured one iota from your early days.
Any sick notes we should know about?
