Headcount and the left back slot

240

Headcount is still a thing in football.  When fit last season, Greg Taylor, was first choice left back.  During his several injured periods, Josip Juranovic moved across from the right to cover.  In the early weeks of Ange Postecoglou’s tenure, before the arrival of Josip, Adam Montgomery (then 18) was used.  You knew when illness was really affecting Celtic on the three occasions Boli Bolingoli made the squad.

Bolingoli will remain the choice only when there is absolutely no alternative, although he will hopefully depart this window.  Until this morning, that left Celtic with Greg and Adam.  The latter has now joined St Johnstone on loan.

If we follow the headcount rule, we can be confident that Argentinian left back, Alexandro Bernabei (21) came through his medical without issue and will be confirmed shortly.  I cannot see Adam Montgomery being allowed to leave otherwise.

Bit of a phenonema if you ask me. And me using the plural of the word phenemon even when I mean the singular that’s another one.

Your son, another case in point, not unheard of but I would say unusual given what we are led to believe how our brains work. Or are supposed to work.

OldTim67’s mother was able to write both right and left handed, but here’s the thing, when she wrote left handed you needed a mirror to be able to read it as per normal writing. Could write poetry that way as well. Always fascinated us as kids, never quite understood it, even now.

    Good news indeed.

I get my PSA count checked every 6 months, my latest just last week. So far so good.

    Stay positive.

That was good of you to respond to concerns. Good man and I hope your improvement continues.

Some honest to goodness good news on here!

    Best wishes going forward.

  5. Re.Jullien. I neither respect nor disrespect him but I never felt comfortable with him in central defence. In most games ( at Celtic Park anyway) I felt he played OK but he never bred confidence in me. Cameron Carter-Vickers has just the opposite effect.

  6. Jullien leaves us with two iconic moments secured – his winners against Lazio and Sevco. He leaves a treble winner and with my best wishes.

As for Jota, the longer his signing is delayed the more likely that it’s not going to happen.

Certainly if he’s not on the flight to Austria on Monday then we can forget about it imo.

  7. So,looks like Jullien might be off.No problem.I just find it strange that we will now need to spend money on a replacement,I personally don’t think will be better, unless we are willing to push the boat out.Welch no where near good enough, and should have joined Montgomery out on loan.

If we spend big money on a CH,it will mean Carl dropping to the bench, because no knew CH will sign to sit there.Unless of course,Ange is planning 3 at the back, with 2 Liverpool style FBs.H,mmmm.

Delighted to read your news. Hope the treatment continues to improve things.

  9. Hot Smoked,

Don’t agree with you on Jullien, but maybe it was he he was playing alongside, different partners regularly, duff full backs, not exactly confidence giving situations.

For me he is up there behind VVD as our best since God knows.

  10. Ron – good to see you’re doing ok

Celtic Mac – my dearly departed brother also had the left / right thing – maybe on the cusp of being ambidextrous.

    Re Joe Ledley

May still have been financial – although he was on a bosman he still had a value that would be added to the balance sheet – I’m sure he also got a signing on fee.

  11. Would be interesting to see big Jools at the centre of a back three with Cameron and Carl either side of him, but Ange hasn’t shown any signs of playing that kind of format. Not yet at any roads. Be a shame to see him go, and if he does, with Starfelt getting a bad injury playing for Sweden, we are going to need to bring a centre back in, from somewhere. To replace players already there!

As i posted weeks ago,Jullien spat the dummy out when Duffy was signed, saying he thought he was No 1 CB,the tantrum was in front of the rest of the squad and mmanagement, he was totally isolated after that.

If CJ leaves ? Hey ho.

    Thems the breaks.

Possibly one of those “is a good guy not the right guy” situations.

    Ange calls it.

    Ange has that authority.

Personally I’m comfortable with him having that authority.

PS – Watch the BS narratives starting up re CJ.

Subtract his outgoing transfer fee today from his incoming fee a few years back …

… and report it as a loss.

    What you won’t read ….

    Real Madrid lose £86m (Bale).

    It’s the business ……

    Some assets deliver value

    Some don’t

Some assets deliver value and are sold at a loss

Some deliver value and are sold at a profit

    That’s the trick we’re all chasing !!!

If Julien goes , we are losing the best non playing centre half at the club.

    Corrected your statement

Are you convinced yet by Ange!

  19. I would have Starfelt as 3rd choice next season.

I’d purchase a left footed, ball-playing, Line-breaking starter (ideally Itakura or the like)

I’d ask why Welsh would want to hang around as 4th choice.

I’d ideally promote Dane Murray (if ready) as 4th choice successor and loan out / sell Welsh to the Italians (for his and our sake)

    AN TEARMANN

She had the cheek to imply in court that she too was a victim of Epstein, saying he was an evil man and that she wished she had never met him.

st tams- i thought Starfelt improved as the season went on,been a bit awkward playing left CB though, but i think him and CCV punch their weight better than Jullien HH

I’ve questioned Julien’s commitment to the team ever since Leigh Griffiths beat him in the “find things about your hoose” game, on the lockdown online league party.

Or was it the online lockdown league party?

    Or the league lockdown…🤷🏽‍♂️

Interesting comment about CJ — might explain his desperation to keep the ball out of the net at the expense of his own safety.

I fear that his ego was in play and he wanted to make a statement.

He came across as very emotional in his play.

He is a superb footballer and could be a very good defender.

When he was good he was excellent / when he was unsettled he was a liability.

Plus you have the strange Dubai episode — he is injured yet goes on the trip / seemingly made it to the dancing and caught CoViD. That takes some doing if that scenario is halfway correct.

Not sure how we can move him on as a loan with an option to buy as he moves into the last year of his current contract — interesting to see how that turns out.

£1.5mill — if that indeed is the cost on him — would suggest that we just want to close the books on him with no black marks on the accounts.

Interesting to see how the CB pool develops over the summer as we prep for the CL proper — will anyone be promoted from the B team / will OU get a recall / what happens to SW who really needs games.

AP over to you — no pressure then …

    Drambowie Bhoy,

Good on you, keep on rockin in the “free” world.

    Are you a drummer?

    TOSB,

Glad you’re still enjoying gigs. Kings of Leon’s first 2 albums were great, and whilst they’ve lost a bit of the rawness that I liked I’m sure they’d be great live.

  25. Sky Sports Scotland reporting the huns have agreed a £1.8million fee with PAOK for their striker. Only problem is that PAOK need to decide if they’ll let him move to Sevco.

    Bit of a head-scratcher…
