Helsingborgs indifferent domestic form

791

Helsingborgs IF are sixth after 17 games in the Swedish Allsvenskan, seven points off Elfsborg and Malmo, who ended Scotland’s interest in the Champions League last season.  Our opponents clearly play it tight on the road, they have lost only eight goals away from home, considerably fewer than anyone else in the league (Malmo: 19), although their home goals for and against are not unusually low (scored 14 to Malmo’s 16 at home, conceded nine to Malmo’s one).

Helsingborgs have lost only three league games, fewer than anyone else.  Four draws from nine home games appears to have cost them most ground in the title race.

Celtic can expect to face a tight defence who are well versed at shutting teams out in the second leg in Glasgow where they will need the creative talents of Kris Commons with perhaps Paddy McCourt p[laying a role.  A big European-night atmosphere at Celtic Park will be invaluable.

There was no objection or problem when 3 quarters of the stadium where torn down and replaced by a more modern structure,,,so why the outcry at an old school being torn down,to be replaced by a modern structure??

  8. Might be wrong but did the old school used to sell posters of the players, programmes etc.in the 70s? Remember as a bairn going wi my dad to the games and once getting a poster of Danny mcgrain and king kenny.

Not quite complaining about the cladding, there’s a wee bit more to it that that. Yes of course cost comes into it, but there’s a greater view and that is legacy. Those lego buildings we’re building just now look awful and don’t inspire, they are strorage boxes and we know they are cheap. The plans ‘sound’ fantastic, an avenue of legends, a walkway and entrance more befitting of our club and of champions. It’s be just nice to have some inspiring, imaginative transformational architecture to match the ambitions and visions.

I have a ’21st century storage’ place near me and it’s the most soul-less, grey and dull building. As a society we are settling for second best, and it’s the same legacy the 1960s left us. A wee bit of design thought into what sounds like a good idea. That’s all.

Not having a go at you in this, but we’re a wee bit too diametric on this site sometimes. If you voice a negative view at all, it’s jumped on, if you see the positives it too is cracked down on. Much to love and support in Celtic just now. Maybe it’s about looking for a bit better. In performance, transfers and team matters. And in architecture :-)

  14. Anyway Helsingborg should be good, don’t see why we won’t be in CL,hail hail canny wait to get back to where we belong……. Wembley 25th may , 200000 tims in London. Happy days indeed . Loving it!!!!!!

Could be wrong but maybe you’re thinking of the Celtic Supporters Association building which was right beside the school to the Lisbon Lions side. It used to sell

Celtic stuff, many moons ago, before it was demolished.

Well said. I see stevebhoy’s view as well but buildings are buildings they will be there a while, best get them right but guess if the council are involved financially then its where we are.

If Celtic own the school and that land then you would expect more than what is shown on those tin hut plans. Yet a gain that Lawwell….

The new building looks like a shed. It will be an important building for us and should be more iconic than a generic retail shed. It should inspire.

Frankly it doesn’t. That is not a criticism of the progress of the playing pool, our position in Scottish football or our football ambition. It is also not a criticism of Peter Lawell.

It may be a criticism of the Grand Lodge design team or their brief or something in that zone.

Is it wrong to genuinely find a retail metal box uninspiring?

I am not asking for a remake of the Glasgow Concert Hall or the Transport Museum or the Science Centre or the Armadillo or the new Hydro Arena or……

Oh Dear. Looks like Glasgow is capable of producing modern iconic buildings on a regular basis. I should apologise for wanting our club to aspire slightly above a retail metal box for what will be it’s second most important public building.

On the other hand, it certainly looks cheap so that should leave loads to invest in other ‘divisions’.

Honestly, having read your post, I actually agree with most of what you say. And you are correct about the legacy, but how do the club justify grandiose plans when half the support would complain about lack of player investment, shareholders would (maybe not!) complain, and such a project would be very slow to complete.

I am actually more concerned that a number of posters on here – not you – seem determined to attack our club and management on every issue. I am happy to complain sometimes, but not every time… We should speak out, we should stay shtum, we should buy, we should buy better, we should spend more, we should offer EBTs (slight exaggeration;) and so on. Im a supporter, and we are currently winning, show promise and are able to invest. I just want to give credit where it is due!

    No offence meant.

if celtic did not think there was a pound or two in it, they simply would not attempt to do it. imo this type of project opens celtic up to the public in a way the current set up does not. go to just about any tourist attraction in the world and try to get out the door without going through the main shop and you’ll struggle, yet we ask supporters/ visitors who do the club tour to walk over to the superstore after their visit come hail, rain or snow which is very poor indeed and if they want a snack or a drink we direct them to the burger van again come hail, rain or snow, what i see is opportunities missed!!!

celtic play 40 + games a season of which supporters can attend about 20 at home, for me that is pure madness, we have a willing and able support who want to buy into celtic, yet they cant because the club dont offer anything for them to buy into, celtic park/ superstore is busy just about every day of the week, celtic have to make sure they can offer those people more opportunities to invest in the club.

i also think that a hotel is not simply something that would be used once per fortnight, it would be used every night, hotels are used by businessmen, tourist, football fans, other sports fans ~ remember the new sports arena across the road will host major events throughout the year, some would argue that having one hotel in such a prominent area is well short, celtic park is a 5 minute rail/ 10 minute bus drive into glasgow city centre, its a great location when you think about it.

celtic are a worldwide brand and needs to tap into that over the coming years to grow as a business. i hope that this is the first of many projects that will transform celtic into a more profitable club off the park and a more successful one on the park. i hate when the club complain about lack of t.v revenue etc… when they would be better served giving the clubs biggest assets i.e. you and i, the supporters a product to invest in.

over the course of a year who many people do you think visit celtik park?

  22. Just back from Gweedore earlier tonight and heading to London Olympics tomorrow morning. Looks like I’ve got Bulgaria vs Italy so no chance to cheer with the Poles or the Brazilians. Guess I’ll have to be Italian for the day.

Enjoyed another great night in Sean Ogs on Wednesday, Thanks to thomthethim, Noel 90, Ard Macha and Tully57 (plus his superstar GAA relation) and various others. I thought we were well worth an easy win and put paid to the usual pre-season doom and gloom predictions based on the unreliable pre-season friendly portents. Probably won’t stop the usual if Real Madrid horse us in a meaningless but profitable match.

Looking forward to Helsingborgs and a Henrikfest.
