Helsingborgs IF are sixth after 17 games in the Swedish Allsvenskan, seven points off Elfsborg and Malmo, who ended Scotland’s interest in the Champions League last season. Our opponents clearly play it tight on the road, they have lost only eight goals away from home, considerably fewer than anyone else in the league (Malmo: 19), although their home goals for and against are not unusually low (scored 14 to Malmo’s 16 at home, conceded nine to Malmo’s one).
Helsingborgs have lost only three league games, fewer than anyone else. Four draws from nine home games appears to have cost them most ground in the title race.
Celtic can expect to face a tight defence who are well versed at shutting teams out in the second leg in Glasgow where they will need the creative talents of Kris Commons with perhaps Paddy McCourt p[laying a role. A big European-night atmosphere at Celtic Park will be invaluable.

Row Z,
Im not an architect, but i have some knowledge of the politics and economics of infrastructure. I agree that almost all modern buildings are not beautiful. Unfortunately, across the globe, these ‘sheds’ are the done thing, at the moment.
Most of the great buildings in Scotland, for example, are the result of conspicuous consumption among our Georgian and Victorian forefathers. All this ‘Venice of the North’ stuff reflects that attitude. Factories were built to similar standards, e.g. Templeton’s at Glasgow Green. Unfortunately, these designs reflect current ‘functionalist’ approaches. Celtic are no different to any other entity commissioning buildings. They are restricted by cost, architectural planning and fashion.
Im not looking to really argue over taste, merely adopt a realistic attitude.
Again, no offence intended.

Looks like Ki will be spared National Service. S. Korea just picked up Bronze. Word was that any medal would save the players from having to return to their homeland for a year.

Thanks mate, I am sure you are right,
That was driving me nuts.
Hail hail

They want to demolish a listed building so they have a clear site to build something cheap and flashy which will look all bright and shiny for about ten years and will then start to look tired and dated.
The ‘artist impression’ looks like an attempt to emulate the approach to Arsenal’s stadium. It will probably end up looking like the Ricoh (I think they make photocopiers, which is sort of appropriate).
Edb, how would you know, rumour has it you never go to the bar……..

Korea won 2-0. Great. Was Ki playing? I only saw the last 5 minutes or so but never saw him.
By the way, having had to live with yon relic of a building (London Road school) all my 60 odd years I hope to God they pull it down. It has been an utter eyesore for years.
HT @ 20.42,
You’re welcome – & I believe you.
Ernie,
See my posts above.
Our entire society is guilty here.

Trip out to the Camp Nou is a must if you can.
Not sure about where the Barca fans go post game but if you are in the centre of town and looking for some good late night vibes and live music in a friendly bar then try Bar Obama– the link is here.

There are several large TV’s for watching matches and as I say the music is good at night and no cover charge. Open till 3am or half past.
You can also try the rough guide to European Football is that normally gives some tips for pre and post match drinks and atmosphere for most big name clubs.

I was looking for Celtic to acquire Saddam’s 2 Swords Triumph Arch put a 200 foot 4 leaf clover on top that lights up in laser green with a huge sign saying Welcome to Paradise! But I’d be prepared to settle for something between that a retail shed! ;-)
I think we agree on the hotel. Pity it won’t be Celtic’s.

Invercelt,
I think that had a different funding model and at least a more religious excuse for looking as it does!

If you receive a large boot up your erchie anytime now that’ll be your departed and much loved Da. Leave your wee brother out of this:o)
Row Z,
I hope it has the same impact as the Scottish Parliament. Remembervthat furore? Turns outvthat visitors love it, it attracts tourists and is (mostly) functional, now they fixed the roof! And BTW, the contracts and design forvthat were Westminster’s baby…
Anyway, it will be nice to have a pint before going into the game. Thank god Im in the main stand!

Working late tonight.Just had a bath,God ! I needed it.Down to view the quiz and it’s abandoned due to lack of interest.Too many wealthy CQN’rs probably at the pub.
I think to draw Helsingborg,is as good as we could expect. What we have to do now,is not to make it a Henke love in.all our energy must be towards a Celtic win.Celtic first and always.HH

In terms of Irish Bars etc try both Temple Bar and Flaherty’s links below.
There is also the Fastnet which is down near the beach– whereas these two are just of Las Ramblas on the left hand side walking down towards the harbour.
Flaherty’s is down near the bottom, Temple bar is half way down.

Tomthleedtim,
I believe that is the company my future son in law deals with and doesn’t have a problem.
Much cheaper than Sky
After looking at the cooncul link I realise my link was pointless. Nonetheless I think this is a decent proposal. There is a certain integrity to the site in terms of materials used. The gateway flanked by monuments and flags will create a focus point, a threshold of anticipation, a theatre of sorts, that will heighten our exhiliration as we approach the main stand area.
As for the school- it would be too expensive to regenerate. Is red sandstone in keeping with the rest of the area?
There are many better buildings in Glasgow needing funding: The Lion Chambers, Egyptian Halls, Greek Thomsons Caledonia Rd Church etc.
Its time for change.
Christmassy Look – via the car park
Edb, he did that a few times……..an ma wee bro’s in NY as we speak for an Irish weddin, am sure he’ll go to the bar.

I’m blaming you all for the quiz debacle.Do you realize I’ll probably have to talk to the wife now?

And… when I was a teenager, goin down the strand with a young Belfast lass, late at night, watchin the waves, and her asking me… do ye know what “tiocfaidh ar la” means?
“Yes” I parried, “for I am of that ilk”…
the moon was huge, the air was warm, and I looked into her eyes and asked her, “well, has it?”
She breathed back at me: “no”
“ya gobshite”
