Hibernian 0-5 Celtic

677

A five star performance from Celtic extended their lead at the top of the table to an incredible 17 points as Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper dictated the pace and outcome of the game.   Stokes made sure he got on the end of a Charlie Mulgrew corner on 14 minutes to head the opening goal from inside the six yard box.  Six minutes later it was 0-2 when Hooper collected on the halfway line before playing a forward pass to Stokes.  Stokes advanced into the box before slipping the ball to Hooper, who slipped the ball underneath Graham Stack from 10 yards out.

Hibs first genuine attempt arrived midway through the first half when Adam Matthews failed to deal with a long ball and was robbed by Stevenson but Fraser Forster saved.  Wotherspoon then had a good chance 8 yards out when he met a cross from the left but his attempt went wide.

Celtic should have had a penalty when Anthony Stokes again rushed into the box before cutting back and had his ankles clipped but the referee  waved play-on.

Two minutes after the break Charlie Mulgrew removed any remaining doubt about the result.  Gary Hooper was fouled 23 yards from goal and Mulgrew thundered the resulting free kick into the far corner of the net.

Hooper and Stokes linked again when the former back-heeled for the latter but Graham Stack blocked the shot from 12 yards.  Hooper’s second goal of the game arrived seven minutes into the second half when James Forrest passed to Mulgrew who fed Hooper.  The striker’s shot bobbled over the diving Stack into the net.

A careless back-heel by Kelvin Wilson was collected by Gary O’Connor who crossed for Leigh Griffiths but Forster collected comfortably.  The rout was completed when Stokes fed substitute Kris Commons whose wayward shot struck the knee of Ki and deflected into the net.  Joe Ledley almost made it six when he won a header from a Ki corner but his attempt rebounded off the bar.

  1. ‘Evening Paul67, what are your thoughts in respect of a bhoycott of Snake Mountain for the next derby match? I know it would be hilarious to rub their noses in it as appears to be planned, but me and my dad were thinking that surely depriving that mob of upwards of £300,000 is too good a chance to pass up? That kind of money would keep them going for a couple of weeks perhaps, which is far more than they deserve and could make a real difference to them!

A better option would be for Celtic to host a good old-fashioned beamback – the club would make a fortune selling frozen dairy produce and fruit-flavoured melted cow hoof on top of the entry fee!

  2. great result today, Big Bad John on goals on Sunday this morning fighting our corner very well, does anyone have a link to WGS on football focus yesterday?

  3. Right, gonna give the blog a night off from my presence. I suspect the week ahead will be one of yet more gloating and endless headlines coming out of Ibrox. Last week is gonna look like a good week for the Orcish ones – BIG stories coming I think. BIG with a capital B-I-G.

Keep your corsets on – sides could split.

My only concern is a blip against the Pars.

Ruthless – that’s the word for what Celtic need to be between now and the end of the season. Ruthless!!

  4. Selling players? Yes, I am sure that is part of our plan. Buy low, sell high.

Some will moan when this happens, but it is our reality. We did really well getting good players at little cost in the way of transfer fees.

Wanyama, Izzy, Kayal, Mathews, Ledley, Mulgrew.

I have no doubt that we will cash in on one of them this summer. As long as our scouts deliver one or 2 cracking players each summer, this makes a lot of sense.

On top of that, some of these players will be pushing for such a move.

I have no doubt that we could punt Kayal and never notice. Not so much a shot at him, as it is an appreciation for the quality we have in that area.

Are we potentially good enough for the last sixteen and beyond?

    Why not?

I think it is a bit much when mere lawyers tell a Suave Billionaire that they no longer wish to represent him.

“Fraud and uttering” is my new bit of info on Scots Law for today. This term will enter the lexicon of Planet Fitba very soon

Good idea but i think if we did that the Hun support would do everything in their power to buy the tickets and fill the ground regardless. The LL and meida would be in full save Der Hun mode telling all Rankers supporters that they had to buy the tickets.

  11. utter, uttering

In Scotland there is no criminal offence of forgery, instead the offence is called uttering and contains a mental element of knowledge that the article is false along with intention to deceive and a physical element which requires the sending of the false document. Closely tied up with fraud.

  12. Might just be the jelly and ice cream talking but it truly is a great time to be a Celtic fan, love the way the team is performing from front to back, the age and quality of the squad, the party atmosphere and unity of the support, the possible treble and as a wee added bonus the state of that mob down govan. If carlsberg did football seasons right enough.

  13. Hi there

Been a long, long time since my last post. What about this for an idea!? Rangers are in administration. The administrator has to listen to any reasonable offers which will raise funds for the creditors. True!! So ask them to decorate the ibrox trophy room green, install a bouncy castle and get photos of Celtic fans eating jelly and ice cream on the marble staircase. I’d pay a wad for that wee experience.

    Hail hail.

Champions performance from Celtic. Magnificent football from so many players. Every department looking strong – although one or two players seemed a bit off form.

So pleased for all of them and for the Management team. Remain focused and win this league as quickly as possible.

Just think if the ginger mullet had made his team even try just a little against the huns, they could have been moving up to 2nd on wednesday.

A few more results like yesterday and they’d struggle to punt more than a few hundred tickets!

  17. There are massive problems with talk of a bhoycott at the Mordor derby…

1-The finance issue is irrelevant, as the orcs could take their chances with the asbestos and fill out the stadium themselves.

    and, more importantly…

2-Do we really want to subject our champions elect to 90 minutes of bigotry from four sides without any Celtic support?

  18. While I am all in favour of us watching us v them on beamback, I would suggest that we take maybe 10 tickets for their midden, so that they have to provide the polis for security. That should cost them money they don’t have. All this is, of course, on the presumption that they are still alive and kicking when we are due to go there.

    WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED.

  20. do you hate Rangers more than you love Celtic?

If the answer is no then you would never boycott Ibrox.

Our players deserve our backing. Forget Rangers for a change.

Never let our players walk into Ibrox without our backing

  23. Well done to the Bhoys, a skilled, professional and clinical performance today.

Well done to the fans, full of inventiveness, humour, spirit and camaraderie.

And most of all well done to Neil Lennon who has my utmost respect for what he has done with this team and what he has endured.

Dolph – why do we need to cash in? We dont – dont sell and see where the team takes us

    ………………………………………………

Totally agree. There will be an increase in ST sales – I’m buying one. We need to take a look at the situation for next season and assess what is likely to happen. I don’t think we need to sell any of our major players but those who don’t have a realistic chance of regular football should be allowed to leave. A smaller squad with good quality is what is required.

We need to establish a regular place in the CL group stages. That should be our primary aim and it will be difficult enough to do that. If we can get a foothold in the group stages we can then set our sights on advancing.

Perhaps ‘the third way’ is called for then – Celtic taking up a smaller block of tickets, no fans attending, police bill incurred and then dragging the heels over passing the money to Rankers – treat them to some of their own tactics.

The team got a 1-1 draw in April 1994 when the Celtic support was banned I seem to recall. Sometimes the bigger picture needs to be considered. Plenty of time to party without going to Ibroke.

  29. Great week already , just rounded off nicely. aCnnot comment on game as I had coaching duties, but just thought I might post this to illustrate the mind set of the hun support.

Yesterday I was asked to play in an old crocks fundraiser for an anti racist charity which is organising a “world cup” for asylum seekers in the west of Scotland. We were asked to play a wee game against a bunch of lads from Somalia and Sudan and all chip in afew quid. I provided an old set of strips for our opposition as they have no kits and we lent them boots and shinguards. These kids had nothing to their name.

Due to us having to borrow a set of strips, we wore a set of green and white hoops lent to us from a Bellshill Sunday team. We had a mixed bag of supporters in our team however one Rangers fan and one Motherwell fan refused to wear the hoops, they wore their tracksuit tops they brought with them.

Yes , that`s correct,at an anti racism charity match, two half wits refused to wear the hoops for 30 minutes in a bounce match.

Makes you proud to be Scottish.
