HOOPS DUO ON THE MOVE

LUCA CONNELL has joined Queen’s Park on loan as he looks for game time as the season edges to a conclusion.

Celtic’s 19-year-old midfielder was signed by Neil Lennon from Bolton 18 months ago, but, despite a huge reputation earned in his handful of first-team outings, the Republic of Ireland international has failed to make the breakthrough at the Hoops.

Connell was seen as one for the future and possibly a shift to the League Two leaders will help him get into his stride in time for what is certain to be a crucial new season at Parkhead.

Keeper Ryan Mullen, 19, is also heading across Glasgow to Hampden until the end of the campaign as Queen’s, five points ahead, go for promotion the third tier.

Boss Mark Roberts, speaking to the club website, said: “I am absolutely delighted to get both deals over the line and get the players in for what is going to be a very busy period ahead.

“We have needed cover in the goalkeeping position and have been actively looking for some time, so it’s very pleasing to have the opportunity to bring Ryan in.

“Luca is a very talented player who is left-sided which will give us good balance in the squad and added competition for places.

“The acquisition of both players really does strengthen the squad for the run in.”
