Hottest ticket in management lurches in the wrong direction

831

Right now our former captain, Paul Lambert, is one of the hottest tickets in football management so it’s no surprised that Norwich City have been unable to hold onto him.  Inside three years he transformed the club from one that lost 1-7 to Colchester United (then managed by Paul) to one of the most improved teams in Europe, earning two consecutive promotions and a mid-table finish in the FA Premier League.

If Lambert ended up at Liverpool, or even Chelsea, you would not have been surprised.  Instead, he’s set to go to Aston Villa.  During their Martin O’Neill era Villa splurged cash they ultimately realised they couldn’t afford.  Martin walked out days before the start of the season in August 2010.  Since then they pitched Gerard Houllier at the job before poaching Alex McLeish from relegated city rivals Birmingham.

In short, Villa looks like a club without the vision to build stable progress.  Unlike Norwich, who seem to know exactly what they are doing.  They even coped with the loss of Neil Doncaster, who left the club a few months before the arrival of Lambert.

Norwich City is the better job.

I’m on Radio Scotland with Jim Spence around 16:15 today, talking about social media and football, square sliced, the price of milk and lawn care.

  2. Miki67 that programme was sensationalist but still worrying all the same.

There are fascist elements all over Europe just now, look at the French election Eg, Italy and in the UK we have the BNP and EDL with racist attacks a regular occurence, we are not squeaky clean, far from it although our football stadiums and supporters have cleaned up their act in comparison, with the exception of Scotlands shame who’s supporters enjoy the protection of the establishment.

I’m interested in Zbyszeks take on that programme also.

Ps the Irish will be fine as always.

It was a wonderful occasion and Jim and Anne received tremendous applause. Clearly Reamonn’s story is known to a wide audience.

  12. Spotted Chic Young on his way into the Argyll Hotel in Southend nr Campbeltown not long ago.

  13. I think it was remiss of me not to also mention that a special young man, Joseph (Joe) Wilson, was also similarly awarded a posthumous award today.

Joe had been an outstanding student at Taylor High School and was very well thought of in the local community.

A very sad loss to his family and friends.

  14. Tric Ribbon, I should have said earlier…. Excellent CQN’er MWD will be accompanying us in our visit to the fair City of Doire, Whits on in Traceys on Fri night, I’m hoping it’s Sean Sands?

Don’t know if anyone has posted yet but I have just seen Paul Gascoigne in an Umbro advert on SSN. Very distresing. I didn’t like him but I hate to see another human being reduced to such an extent – especially someone who was a great footballer.

    Tri..

Long shot here…I have asked on here over the years if any of the Derry bhoys know the McLaughlin family who moved from the Bogside to Shantallow 2 (Early 70s)…There was about ten in the family and two of the boys were called Sean and Danny. They would be 54 and 52 years old now….

Paul67 came across very well on the radio tonight I thought. Wasn’t exactly a groundbreaking debate, but got the sense that English and the BBC guy were engaged in catch-up.

Got the sense, in fact, that they were out of their depth regarding “new” media, and were scared.

    Good! They should be.

In other news, if you think the England-Belgium game was drab, tune in to Croatia-Norway. Suffering Jaysus. Huseklepp – oh dear.

  21. googybhoy

And the icing on the cake was no queue to get out of the car park despite the Ideal Homes thingy going on at the SECC.

Not long home from the Caritas Award Ceremony at the Armadillo this afternoon.

It was tremendously enjoyable and there was a lovely tribute to Reamonn Gormley whose mum and dad picked up a posthumous award in his honour.

I was there today as well.

Fantastic day for the 1st ever Caritas Awards.

Had a lump in my throat when Raemon’s parents walked on stage.

  25. Caching up here, there must be some lightweights on here. Old England was a “sophisticated” sherry of sorts, Old English a cider of poor quality. Glad to help, wonder how I know these things.

As for the Only an Excuse “Italia 90” tape, I had the audio cassette in the car almost every day, great stuff before it got soggy in later years. The front cover had the photo of Tony Roper hitch-hiking to the tourney , holding up the handwritten sign “Itly” …good visual gag.
