Hugely important League Cup tie

873

We have had games which were hugely important to the club, and to our new manager, some which were ‘must win’ games, which were ultimately lost, but tomorrow’s League Cup tie against Hearts is a must win game for different reasons.

A year ago we lost in this competition to one of the worst teams to win at Celtic Park in the last half century, possibly longer, but thus Hearts side are a Premiership team in all but name and come with the weight of their history behind them to fell Scottish football’s last superpower.

I’ve seen Hearts win at Celtic Park before, there is one particular painful memory as they taunted us while drawing, but Ronny and his new recruits should know, this game ranks above all league matches in order of importance.

How can we judge Guidetti and Scepovic from the two games we’ve seen. Jeezo man!

I’m not slating the two players, I’m merely highlighting that we ‘dont’ make chances and, if that continues…the two strikers will go the same way as the others that I listed.

We could have Suarez and RVP up front and they wouldn’t score either!!!

Strikers need chances or, to cut a long story short….Celtic need JOHN COLLINS as manager and, get the Ronny fella to efff!!! imho

Of course I don`t think it is working just now, I wouldn`t expect it to but I think it will. Also, I do not believe that we are as bad as many think. For the first few minutes on Sunday, we played in the controlled fashion of better teams than us. Too many of our players do not have the confidence to sustain that control and too many of our fans do not have the patience. As I said, though, I believe the improvement will come then the patience won`t be required! Different mindset, I suppose but I still really enjoy going to see Celtic and accept that, currently, frustration is part of my day in Paradise.

I won`t be going tonight as I am still recovering but I hope you enjoy a fine performance. You and many other fans deserve a spectacle for your continued support.

    Hail! Hail!

  3. The modern game has moved on and you can’t keep expecting to play with 2 strikers in the league and cups then move to 1 up top in Europe. It doesn’t work, you can’t pull off that system (which is not a defensive system if done correctly) as a one off… Christ we’ve seen how hard it is to change philosophy over a couple of months never mind switching for one match!

Most of the top teams in the world play with 1 striker. 442 is outdated.

Tonight really is a must win, you can feel elements of the support crying out for RD’s neck. If he doesn’t win tonight I think they’d require for him to go on a substantial winning run.

Lack of training time is really not helping at the moment.

I would usually agree but the management and the team REALLY need a win tonight.

That Statement might have Rang true a Few Seasons ago but Not Now I’m afraid.. Think I know the Reason for the SFA “Dislike”!

What happens when You “Dislike” EUFA and FIFA.. Who probably are 10 Times worse than the Good Olde SFA..

  8. 3-5-2 felt revolutionary when MON first introduced it. Playing 4-3-3 and going one on one with the defence places 3-5-2 under severe pressure though. Lovenkrandts had the space to exploit this as did the Juve winger who’s name escapes me.

    Davido…..,

We need a win every time we play but I’m not going to wet my pants and demand their heads on a plate if they don’t, I’ve already given my view in how long the manager should get (18 months btw). Spoiled brats were demanding his head after a couple of bad results drivelling about the job being too big. Like they’d know ffs.

  11. The issue I have with Ronys tactics is that every club in SPFL plays with 5 in midfield. Neil never did learn his lesson that playing 424 gives the midfield to the opposition

I have yet to see any of Ronys games where we dominated the midfield , but then again his fascination with wide players leans to surrendering the midfield

Chris commons is an ideal player for our 5 man midfield as he is such a goal scoring threat But we need some central midfield players

  12. Big nicht for The Bhoys……

Broonie needs to do what he does best, but keep the heid and I’m looking for Johhnny Collins to show us that he has the goods to properly assist his boss. He knows what this game means and he needs to perform, in getting the Bhoys up for it.

As important as glycerol levels are…………….

……..Broonie and Collins have to deliver on the ‘attitude’ front.

Ouch, sair memories of the 2002 final.

We pummelled them, they just lumped it clear to Lovenkrands.

Surprised certain Celts allowed him a second chance at it,never mind all day.

Day wasn’t entirely wasted though as I put a wee pound or two on Rock of Gibraltar. Spent the winnings drowning my sorrows.

  14. A job with the multitude of facets that goes with being Manager of Celtic Football Club requires a lengthy period to achieve success. Can you imagine how much more difficult that job is made by a hostile Press and you own supporters demanding instant gratification?

We MIGHT have a gem on our hands with Ronny Deila. It would be a great shame to lose that because of our desperation for success. A desperation, incidentally, born out of the unfair comparison with teams in other Leagues.

All we are saying, is give RD a chance.

Would `passion` be a better word? Or `need`? I cannot think of any other reasons why supporters would be so critical so often. Well I can but they fall into ,roughly, the same area.

  19. Bobby. Was that not the end of Mons 352? I recollect the next game at Ibrox , we went to 442 with Jackie and Agathe at full backs

The deid team punted a ball in 1st 5 mins up to lovlypants and Agathe outpaced him at right back and that was the end of Mcleish’s victories over us

Aye,pretty much. Mjallby shoulda planted Lovenkrands into hospitality but didnae.

As you say, formation changed and fortunes reversed.

Passion, yep – but think in terms of “affection”…….

Most relationships ain’t perfect but where there is love, affection, respect and understanding – aw the guid stuff! there can be constructive criticism.

The opposite stinks………and this one smells a bit……..

What we have here, imo, is a constant destructive criticism, and we can only guess at the motive on the social media front…………

we know exactly what they are all about in the old media, because we have grown up with it.

Someone a few days ago , said something like – booing Celtic was like keying your own car – I liked the phrase, kinda made sense.

We can work it out, is the Ronny & Johnny mantra.

    I pray they can. Soon!

    —————————————————————-

Me too mate. Maybe the problem lies with the players getting confused during team talks because Ronny keeps insisting on referring to himself as “The Walrus”?

  23. MON seldom changed the team. That was the making of his side.

It also contributed to his downfall at Fir Park when at least 3 players were running on empty at KO.

Still one of our greatest gaffers though.
