If only Stalin knew

524

Josef Stalin was adored by his people. He was also a charismatic man with a plan. He had the vision to take the Soviet Union forward to prosperity. But there were famines and genocide. The starving were not exiled to Botany Bay for stealing a handful of corn, hundreds of thousands of them were shot, all while Stalin occupied the Kremlin.

The means of production were breaking down all around. Newly manufactured tractors idled in fields, because simple replacement parts were never produced, causing production targets to be missed, with a whole host of consequential ramifications.

Yet the people remained in awe of their genocidal oppressor. “If only Stalin knew”, they would say, “he would end the suffering and fix all these problems”. It was Beria, or some other apparatchik, who must be responsible.

“If only Stalin knew” has become a phrase to describe a characteristic of human nature. We grow to worship those who inspire us to revolution and reject all evidence when they drive us into the sea. Faults and failings are blamed on others. If only the man (less commonly, woman) at the top was in complete control, this mess would have been avoided.

You will note this morning that “King took a backseat during the recruitment process as Graeme Park, with Stewart Robertson and Andrew Dickson alongside, drove through Caixinha’s move… to Ibrox”.

The sentiment is clear: what is needed is not less influence from King, but more involvement. The plan is great, it just needs to be executed the way King wants it to be.

It’s not like we haven’t warn them.

  1. What is the best that Rangers can now realistically hope to achieve from this season?

CRAIG SWAN: Only 10 games have gone. Rangers can still get second spot and still win the Scottish Cup if they get the right appointment into the club and have a bit of good form and good luck. That’s not unrealistic. It’s doable.

  2. Stalin – lovely man

” There is sure progress under this barbarism and this retrogression . We are all dead men under a reprieve , but the face of the earth has been changed ” -Viktor Serge -The Case of Comrade Tulayev

” People are bewitched by great illusions . They are hypnotized and do not see what actually takes place around them . All around, ferocity and slaughter reign supreme. They don’t perceive it and believe that on the morrow the revolution will bring not only plenty ,but the beatitude of paradise to all. All around morality crumbles away, license, sadism and cruelty are everywhere– the masses call it a moral degeneration – ” -Pitrim Sorokin- The Sociology of Revolution. 1967

  4. I am firmly of the belief that KT would be nowhere near as good at another club.

He plays with such great passion because he is playing for the club he loves.

I doubt he would be quite as motivated at any other club.

  5. MEA CULPA

You could be right. however, would he be motivated by £60,000 per week?

I understand Robertson at Liverpool is on £60,000 grand a week and he disny play every week.

The money available elswhere is indeed mental……………….but……….

    Good Afternoon All,

I know that this is a long shot, but here goes!

I’m travelling home on Sunday, for my Daughter’s Wedding a week on Saturday.

Last time I was back, two years ago, I took my friend, and all the kids, to watch Celtic falter in the rain against Hamilton.

I’m looking for two tickets for Tuesday night, to take him back to Paradise, to watch us take our revenge against Bayern.

If anyone does have spare tickets, please get in touch with though here, or via Paul 67.

  7. Well, whaddyaknow; the Emperor had no clothes. Brave Dave knew all along; he was just waiting for the right time to reveal his wisdom.

  8. I have no idea what KT’s currently earning but I hope /expect that the board sees the sense in removing finance from his mind by offering him a new contract well before the current one is up that puts him on a similar level to Scott Brown and the other top earners.

He is contracted to us until summer 2021 (after renewing it last summer) and if he stays there is a good chance that by 2019-2020 he will be our captain. If by 2021-2022 he gets the chance to go to Madrid or Barcelona fair enough. But let’s not lose him to the EPL because money becomes an issue.

We are so lucky to have a future world class player that bleeds green and white. We are lucky to have a manager and a board who will not push him out the door because of a big money offer because, clearly, it is going to come. Probably several times.

  9. 79caps,

I struggle to understand the attitude implicit in your question at 12:28. I am utterly fascinated by their ongoing car crash.

No idea when you started going to games, but I came of age, as a Celtic supporter, during the 1990s. During their 9 in a row. I remember attending games against them when the gap on the pitch was painful to behold. I remember wondering whether we’d ever beat them, hoping against hope we could scrape a draw. I remember wondering whether I ever see us win the league again, or play in the Champions League…

I remember furiously asking myself why Celtic seemed so amateurish.. then (when Fergus arrived) so parsimonious. When across the river they clearly had millions to spend – why didn’t we?

I remember dark despair, my parents furious with me as a I sat miserable through another family wedding/communion/birthday because we had lost again to Falkirk/Motherwell/Airdrie or Dundee. I remember hearing tales of Jock, Lisbon, Inter, Kenny Dal, and the rest, and thinking… why was I born too late?

Now, in my rapidly approaching middle age, I sit here watching as Rangers – once the mighty Death Star of Scottish football – lie in ruins. Adminstration, Liquidation, Reformation (snort!), and hilarity piled upon hilarity as spiv after spiv takes their stupid support for one long ride.

I’m aware that my taking pleasure in their pain is not very Christian, that there is probably a long German word for it… but you want me to ignore it all? The slapstick, the poverty, the dashed hopes, the mighty, misplaced arrogance brought so deservingly low, like a parable from the Old Testament? None of this interests you? Amuses you? (Is like a clown to you?)

Fuggagedabouit. I’m loving every minute of their cosmic catastrophe.

  10. Good day fhellas & fhelasses.

A record that’s stood for a century could be equalled tomorrow, that’s quite an achievement.Plenty of Celtic supporters will have been born, lived their whole lives, and sadly be no longer with us in that time. It’s incredible to think about.I don’t think we’ll truly appreciate this period until it goes further and further past in time.

It’s also a lot more satisfying to concentrate on than the shambles at Iborcs.Less focus on them will hasten their slide into total irrelevance.

So,lets all enjoy where we are just now.Life’s short, savour the good TIMes.

  12. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

As soon as Stalin ordered the horrific murder of Trotsky,he was dead in my eyes.

Admittedly a fair few years later, from reading history.

The huns should try that,it is quite revelatory.

Problem is that history is a foreign language to them.

Long live ignorance,it kept Stalin in power.

    Till his death.

  13. I think Neil Lennon is the man for the job at Ibrox. 2nd best manager in Scotland, he’s won trophies, champions league experience, can win big games, works on a small budget.

I’m sure the new club has left behind the baggage of the old one and would welcome a successful manager like that.

    NO sniggering now.

It’s fun how the two best managers in the league are tims!

Mcinnes, Tommy Wright et al will organise any team to be harder to beat than the orcs currently are. And I’m afraid that’s the height of their ambition at present.

And it’s no given that anyone who has any idea what’s under the bonnet at Ibrox would be going near them anyway.

Therefore my money is on the oldest swinger in town. They’ll lap up having a Billy in charge.

  16. I’m hoping Kenny Miller gets the gig.

Says football fan who, quite normally and expectedly takes interest in the fate of another team in the same domestic competition as his own club.

Or do people think we should never look at the opposition? Rangers might still be alive if people weren’t paying attention to their cheating ways.

And I must confesss, tomorrow afternoon, when I’m not at Celtic Park (because I don’t live in Scotland before I get abuse for that!) I will be checking the twitter feeds of most other spfl clubs to keep updated with the scores like I do every match day. I enjoy working out the permutations of varying results as they stand.

    I’m obsessed.

    With Football.

I might even watch match of the day and criticise the over hyped EPL. I’m obsessed. With Football.

And if the orcs are on telly against the embra orcs I might even watch it. Obsessed.

Could someone tell me if this makes me a lesser Celtic fan or a bad person please.

  17. Like Stalin….Hitler was also viewed by many German folk as being the man who would sort out those Nazi’s who were murdering Jews etc etc ?

Whenever news of some of the Nazis ways were reaching some “ordinary” German folk, they would say…” The Fuhrer can’t know what is going on, he will sort out those Gangsters etc”…..not realising that Hitler was the biggest Gangster of the lot.
