Should Lionel Messi’s illness, which kept him out of Saturday’s clash with Malaga, prevent him boarding a plane to Glasgow tomorrow, Brendan Rodgers will take some grain of comfort. The Argentine was the principle actor in the destruction of Celtic at the Camp Nou two months ago.
Since then Celtic have more than earned the Champions League credit which has come their way. Meritocratic draws against Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach have given the club two points more than some observers predicted for them when the group stage was drawn in August.
Without Messi, Barcelona remain a potent force, but arguably the greatest player to ever kick a ball changes the dimension of the challenge enormously. While it’s likely a few days rest would be enough for Messi to push himself, if necessary, manager Luis Enrique may be inclined not to take chances with his star asset ahead of a huge week for the Catalans.
After Celtic they are away to Real Sociedad, who are only four points behind in La Liga, while the following weekend they have the chance to close the four point gap at the top when Real Madrid visit.
So if you meet Luis around town this week, tell him he’d be better to rest Leo for the important La Liga clashes.

We can pick this up after Wednesday.
I was in Orkney for a week two Octobers ago. Stayed in Stromness, but visited Kirkwall a few times.
Enjoyed a good meal and beers in Helgi’s. Enjoyed Orkney.

The Bull and Bear Houston: used to watch the games in there when on a quarterly visit… Remember Bhoys from Crookston and Viewpark that would swap CSC shirts… Dubai Hoops for Houston Bobby Lennox… Always made welcome… Fond memories…

Thai Tim Jim: I thought I had a ticket for Dec 17 th but it fell through. Happy to oblige with an AICSC calendar and some badges.
WITS: Are you over and back on Ruinair?
Lennybhoy, according to some of the tweets, he was at the game last Friday and looked well
Saltires, biff ‘the man they couldn’t hang ‘ Connor told me about Francie and how big a Celtic fan he was and I would occasionally see both chatting before our home games.
Saltires, that should have read Biff told me years ago about how big a Celtic fan Francie was.
Wee update from last night on NHS pensions.
The advice I got today was as expected. There is nervousness around all pensions as the govt. see the funds as a soft target. However, some take the view that would be a serious vote-loser to touch existing pensions for anyone retiring in next 5-10 years.
Outside of that timeline is anyone’s guess…
Others take the view they accept their core voters couldn’t give a wuthering height about public sector/nhs/teachers etc., and will plunder with gusto!
Clear as a hippo’s bathwater!
Hunderbirds, no bother, will give you a shout here later in the week.
Almore, you going to the game Wednesday?
Saltires
The changes in pensions is well underway in the civil service.
All under 50 were forced to pay more for longer and normal pension age in the new scheme is 67.
There was less heralded change recently, consigning many to a lower level of state pension.
Lots of Tory rhetoric around benefit fraud and error. Can’t believe what these governmental crooks are getting away with.

He was at the game on Friday, I am just off the phone to Biff as he was with him yesterday chasing a ticket for Wed night,as you would expect he was extremely upset.
Both of them were booked for the Convention in the States.
This is so sad.
RIP Francie. May God Bless him and his soul rest in peace.
Off up the wooden hill. Will check back in the morning, after a semolina breakfast.
Almore, I emailed requesting my email address is passed to you. Might be best for me to also leave it with someone central so it’s made better use of
Perusing (good word eh!) the blog for the latest catch up as don’t bother too much of late for many reasons, not a criticism, my choice but hey if MARSPAPA, PAOLO’S BOOTS, BT, VAGUEPUNTER… (typo big man, typo)…

Getting excited now.
I look for nothing more than everyone trying to do their best.
I hope for so much more
Aldi, scoring high again:
A budget bottle of champagne has beaten its more expensive rivals to be named one of the top bottles of fizz this Christmas in a blind taste test.
At just £9.99, Aldi’s Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut beat brands such as Laurent-Perrier (£38) and Moët & Chandon (£32.50). The bottle was ranked in third place as one of the ‘Best Buys for Christmas 2016’ by the experts at Which?.
Piper Heidsieck Champagne Brut Non Vintage (£30) had the highest score in the taste test, with the experts describing it as “crisp, fresh, creamy, savoury and appealing.” Sainsbury’s Blancs Brut Champagne (£20) was second, with the Which? team praising it for its “creamy, buttery character”.
My taste buds are unlikely to discern the difference between the top 3 so Aldi will do for me. Not that much more expensive than the old Chateau du Monklands.
THE CELT 45…
Are you Agnes’ nephew???
If so, then aye, for sure, spent some time together before… a very unsettling and personal happening occurred… If you are the same ghuy … God Bless… If not, God Bless…
Apologies for the cryptic message!!!

I see Hilary Benn is potentially facing deselection as the Labour Party Parliamentary Candidate for Leeds Central.
Good, he can shuffle of to the Lib Dems or wherever his morals and politics belong.
His Old Man was a hero of mine, and if there is an afterlife, he must be spinning in his grave.
Of = off. Obvs
Hope those poor folk in Japan are safe tonight

A few years ago I posted on here about the wine buyer for Aldi, can’t recall his name but he left a very good job in marketing to take a job with Aldi as their buyer, he called it his dream job, he travels world wide specialising in buying from smaller vinyards where he can.
IMO Aldi are by far the best supermarket for wines, they sell top quality stuff here for little euros, many have won medals all over europe, gold medal wines for 2.50 euros, really canny argue with that.

Hunderbirds….
If there is an afterlife it seems very unfair to be left in his grave, spinning or otherwise!!!!

Aye, that even looked a bit funny to me when I read it back.
How come, it’s only after you post that you notice spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes and…….eh….mistake mistakes?

Good to hear pat the baker still going strong. Was down in Killarney over the summer and could only see Brennan’s. Pats batch loaf was lovely but one of my favourite foods and hangover cures was superquinn sausages on a fresh Brennan’s sliced pan. Fecking drooling here just thinking about it…………Collins sausages in muirhead are good but nowhere near a superquinn one. If you have a spare Calander I will take one and can meet you on the 17th. You can get my email from Paul and let me know what time you are around.

Tell your mam if she sees a big thick G*B****E with a trolley full of golden ale and moretti grabbing the last wholegrain that will be me…….

Thanks for posting that showed it to the kids and now they singing the tune. You don’t have any Bosco clips or judge doing the green cross code handy as I was telling them about judge when they were doing their road safety recently.

The “Bull and Bear”? I think that’s where I watched the uefa cup be stolen from us by that cheating Portuguese shite.
A great day and a sad day, both at the same time.
ACGR, B & B it would have been if you watched it in Houston, owned by a Limerick man, Tommy
Aaah. Classic.
I know I shouldn’t, but I just can’t help myself. Current Evening Shark Jump online piece by Chris Jack, talking about the upcoming Sevco AGM.
The last paragraph reads:
“The to-do list is still significant and the bill will still be hefty for those that are running Rangers but this is no winter of discount tent at Ibrox.
Aaaahahahahahahaha. Discount tent. That is right up there with Escape Goat.
Stupid stupid Hun. Aha ha ha. :)))
Autocorrect CSC
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :)))
Thai Tim Jim, the one thing, apart from the despondency of that day was that there were huns in the bar gloating that we lost that day.
Funny thing was, I was also in Huston the day they trashed Manchester, thankfully I chose not to finish early that day.
Cant remember much about the place except it was a big bar with many big screens, lots of slinky young barmaids who got sliky’er after full and extra time. Was it on Westhiemer? Dairy road?
My favourite bars in Houston were mostly on Westheimer…………………………..:_)
ACGR, I recall seeing the odd one or two in there in the past, they have some sort of club in the Kings Head now I think it’s called. Yeah it’s a big bar/restaurant 11980 Westheimer, off Kirkwood. The barmaids I keep in touch with several, of course they change regularly
You ever go to the Ashford/Ashford Arms on Dairy Ashford? Great wee bar now closed
