If you want to know why this clubs is special…

The Celtic Supporters Association Rally in the Kerrydale Suite last night was a complete joy.  On the way out I remarked that the club was in good hands with the Association.  This was their 64th annual rally, over generations they have protected and cultured the unique spirit of our football club.

For me, it was the third opportunity in a week to hear the Thai Tims, who performed an excellent set.  Paul Lennon of the Good Child Foundation is a real inspiration and example to us all.

It was also a great opportunity to spend a few hours with many from the CQN community, always a treat.  I know one CQN’er who is going to think twice before digging up Tom (“get your facts right”) Boyd on the blog again, just in case our former treble winning captain reads it and goes looking for him on a night out.

To continue the spirit of what we are all about, on Saturday 19th May there is a charity dinner in Glasgow for The Andrea Kearney Fund, which supports women who are diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy.  The fund in memory of Andrea, who was diagnosed while expecting her fifth child and died in 2008, aged 41.

It promises to be a great night for an important cause, I hope you can support it.  You can book tickets here.  I look forward to seeing you there.

You can buy a hard copy of the new issue of CQN Magazine via Magcloud here.

The graphic below is just for a flick through, to read the magazine go here to it’s dedicated site.

An attempted bhoycott will fail.As MWD pointed out the Bhoycott of 94 caused all sorts of consternation among the fans and that was being done to dislodge an inept Celtic board. This Bhoycott will be at a time of a dominant strong Celtic.

    Auldheid,

Do you honestly think that spineless lot of crawlers will lead any bhoycott, remind me about how the last proposed bhoycott went.

No, let me remind you, they got their heads turned by a free lunch and a couple of tickets, turned the whole thing into a joke.

The csa and cst like rabbits ran, when the stakes were down, they rolled over and let Lawwell tickle their belly and a serious chance went begging.

I see a lot of promises on here about bhoycott away games, none to a man will stand by that conviction when Lawwell rolls Lenny out to tell them they are needed at away games.

Peter Lawwell has a special button on his keyboard. It has a cover over it that can be flipped in emergencies. On it is printed TV DEAL – PRESS TO DESTROY.

If after everything (one vote!!!!!!!!!!) fails, press now.

I have never heard of PL advocating that, or simply and meekly accepting what the other clubs and authorities want. There is a failure in PL that he has no allies in the rest of the SPL and seems to be viewed as arrogant and unwilling to work with the other clubs….that could be viewed good or bad…

    Bjmac,

Typical emotional blackmail, the support punishing the club,

The board set the police on the green brigade

The board welcoming Hun hoards to Celtic park to subject the home support to illegal abuse.

The board increasing prices for a corrupt comeptition

But the supporters are harming the the club

    Go and reassess your motives.

In 94 the Bhoycotters were trying to ditch the White/Kelly Axis. The faithful attenders were keeping the White/Kelly Axis alive.

They may all have had Celtic’s best interests at heart (totally equally). We also all know where the best interests of Celtic lay and it wasn’t inside watching the train crash arriving.

You have the choice whether or not to support the club, you do what you feel is right. The GB have been treated terribly by some in the club, does that mean they stop going? They stop buying their tickets? They withdraw their financial support?

Withdrawing your support (financial) from Celtic harms our club, everything else you state is totally irrelevant to that fact, it is you who needs to reassess how you address your fellow Celtic fans on a regular basis on this board, you could never be accused of emotional blackmail…. You make incorrect assumptions then hurl insults. You drunk? At least that would an excuse….

Which is why they want to distance themselves from being the decision makers.

They would have to say no or be accused of supporting unfair play, totally undermining their authority to be the governors of European Football.

What has to be done is to get the SFA to clarify under what conditions a club license is being granted to a Newco.

When I made the point on Clyde yesterday and accuse the SFA of failing their responsibility (the link is posted around page 7 I think), Delahunt asked me to explain the process and the panel swerved the question. Check back and listen and read my e mail to Cyde afterwards and to Alex Thomson, pointing him at SFA and UEFA.

    He got it.

    Perspective bhoys please.

We are always being punished. Anyone who sings and if you know your history will know this. This is our chance to say no our principals are far more important than cash. I think it is scaremongering to say that we would go out of business. We may not fit the profile of a possible EPL invite but their would still be a Celtic FC and we would not have compromised our basic principals of justice and fairness. When those are put aside to help rebuild all that is keeping us down then the mask slips. You cannot therefore blame those who decide not to support in any way shape or form a league that will provide an opportunity for what we stand for. Fairness and justice. If we legitamise the vote by not abstaining in the vote then it will be the end of the road for me.

Rangers takeover: John Yorkston calls on SPL chairmen to relegate newco Rangers

    http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/top-football-stories/rangers-takeover-john-yorkston-calls-on-spl-chairmen-to-relegate-newco-rangers-1-2278177

JOHN Yorkston, the Dunfermline Athletic chairman, will urge his Scottish Premier League counterparts to stand by the principles of sporting integrity when they are asked to decide on the future of Rangers this week.

At Hampden tomorrow, a general meeting of the SPL will reconvene to consider a series of financial fair play proposals, including sanctions for liquidated member clubs that reform as a new company.

Under the proposals, clubs such as Rangers, who will become a newco as part of the takeover planned by Bill Miller, will be deducted ten points for two consecutive seasons, and have their SPL payments reduced by 75 per cent for three successive campaigns.

Yorkston does not believe that an SPL share should be transferred to a newco in the first place. He insists that, despite the economic consequences for the game in this country, Rangers should be relegated to the Scottish Football League.

“That’s what I will be arguing for, but I do understand that others will look at the financial side, and that will have more sway than sporting integrity,” he said. “I would guess I’ll be almost a lone voice, but it doesn’t stop me from having my say.

“Everyone agrees that there should be severe punishment, but there are a number of chairmen who will look at the financial thing and say, ‘do we want an SPL without Rangers?’ It will be a question of sporting integrity against financial necessity. That is the choice facing chairmen.”

If eight of the clubs represented vote in favour of the points penalty, it will come into effect on 14 May. Only five votes are needed to introduce the financial penalties. The decision does not need to be ratified by the SPL board, which recommended the proposals.

Under Article 11 of the SPL’s articles of association, a club requires the consent of the SPL board for a share transfer to be registered. If Rangers were to be granted this before next Monday, they would not be subject to the new sanctions.

Yorkston is concerned about the credibility of a league in which it is possible to wipe out debts through liquidation and start again. He says that a points penalty would not be a sufficient deterrent to others.

“If ten or 15 points is the penalty, then other clubs are going to have a look at that in future. Maybe not right away, but if you have a bad run, somebody else comes in, and maybe these people are not prepared to finance the losses, then you might see it happening.

  30. Fortunes Favour Mibbes on

    Awe Naw,

I think I’m pretty close to your own opinions on this, but by abstaining from the vote, it means we aren’t in a position to complain about the result, unless we make a firm statement clarifying why that vote should not be taking place.

That puts us into the hands of the best wee establishment in the world who will then blame us for the hun downfall and deflect blame from themselves and the active roles they have played in this over many years.

It has to be UEFA who take control of this situation once the SFA and SPL have proved themselves incapable, which they are doing nicely at the moment ta very much.

That said, I’m not against the nuclear option myself if our worst fears are realised.
