Ill-equipped strikers, King ramblings and a league without Celtic

545

A week into preseason Celtic play their first 90 minutes of the campaign tomorrow afternoon away to Linz in Austria. It will be great to see the team play (CelticTV) but tomorrow is all about getting the legs moving without injury. Thereafter expectations will ramp up quickly.

‘News’ that Nadir Ciftci has been told he can find a new club will have shocked you, I know. You and I had many opportunities to watch Nadir at Dundee United, while Ronny Deila considered his purchase. The player’s languid interpretation of the game made him a surprising signing at the time.

Maybe Ronny knows something we don’t? Was the hope. He didn’t. It was a rank bad signing, one of several strikers acquired during Ronny’s tenure who didn’t look like Celtic players on paper and looked even less equipped in hoops.

Ronny, of course, did try to sign Moussa Dembele in January 2016, so it would be wrong to conclude he had a blind spot for strikers, but you will struggle to name some who ‘passed through Parkhead’s gates’ in recent seasons.

I only caught up with Dave King’s ramblings yesterday evening. He fancies Newco to reach 10-in-a-row before Celtic do so. They stand a far better chance if we leave Scottish football.  Remember when Charles Green promised Newco would never compete in the Scottish Premier League, knowing fine well the league were committed to an imminent rebrand?  Not laughing so much now, are you?

Celtic are always looking at this, always working on one or other strategy.

  5. Two links were provided on here last night regarding coverage of Tommy Gemmelll on CQN.

Look at the dates on these stories.

The same poster alleged that we had done a Q&A with Tommy when he was gravely ill.

The May 2017 article he has linked to, asking you to judge for yourself, contains questions asked for by Paul years earlier. These were gathered together and answered in great detail by Tommy Gemmell and appeared in his book thar we published for him years ago!

Anyone who has the book can look at this link, check their copy of All The Best and confirm that this is the case.

The poster also reckons that I am a moderator on here. I am not, never have been and never will.

There will be no future Celtic legends brought on to CQN comments section by me.

Last week we carried an article with the headline Celtic’s Orange Squash – 2 games in 22 hours.

Apparently this merited a repeated threat of violence by a poster who will have to justify that to the relevant authorities.

That article was from last week and was widely read directly on here and on social media. It received zero comments on the headline being so offensive to Celtic supporters – yet his rage pops up a week later.

Again he suggests that I am a moderator. I am not.

WC is also responsible for CQN going down the toilet – the maturity is profound – actually we check the numbers daily and the audience is as high as it has ever been.

There’s certainly a much bigger percentage of the overall readership using the site to read the articles and features than comment.

The second CQN Podcast which came out on Saturday has had over 5000 people listening so far and it grows by the day.

The next Podcast is out on Saturday and the special guest interview – which has been recorded – is with the President of the SFA. Auldheid, we have some news for you.

Back seat from me on here from now on I am afraid. Good luck to the mods whoever they are.

Winning Captains….I appreciate your hard work and efforts on CQN and im sure 99.9% of all other sensible posters and lurkers do also.

  7. The hand of God on

Petec…I have been assured that you are a good guy……any chance of keeping your posts about Celtic and giving the religious ramblings a rest…please.

  8. Treble Winning Captains,

Many thanks for your efforts for CQN. Haste ye back. We need the good guys.

Periodically, I get the impression that CQN is taken over by folk who seem to enjoy ridiculing the ethos of the blog. Usually, the core community bring back the sanity. Hopefully, this will happen again.

  9. hi bhoys good morning from a wet west cheshire.wow that thats been an eventful few days on here .just remember fellas wer’e celtic supporters all of us keep the faith.

PAUL67 now has my views on events. I did not post a link to any date, but the one I referred to was in May 2014.

Also I commented on the article-which you published on Saturday-as soon as it came to my attention.

My last word here on the subject.

  11. Paul67,

I first posted on this blog after Artmedia. It was for a long time a brilliant, insightful, funny and warm place to talk Celtic.

I hardly post at all now and when I do pop in to scan things, I am shocked at the quality of posts and aggressive attitudes of many posters.

I don’t know if there is anything you can do to reverse the decline, but sad to say CQN has gone from required reading for intelligent fans, to just another look-at-me shout fest. It’s such a loss.

The blog is what people post and what they do in its name, individually as well as collectively.

If it is not sexy enough for you then the choice is simple, either ignite a debate (or at least try to ignite a debate) to suit your particular mindset or preferred daily digest, endure the ramblings of ‘others’ that you find inane (maybe ‘others’, not as quite as intellectually acute as you believe yourself to be, which is of course both subjective and unfathomable, but ‘others’ that are none-the-less as passionate or caring about Celtic and the Celtic Family ).

So many posters hark back to yesterday and what once was… but the world hasn’t stopped turning…

After years of posting on here I have come to appreciate that behind every moniker is a human being, an individual with an unique set of feelings, sentiments, beliefs, hopes, despairs, good traits, bad traits, commitments and failings.

And one day we are all going to die. Our written words will echo, maybe not to any great distance, but they will echo.

    Tease. :)

There was an interesting exchange on Twitter last night asking STV Grant why he had not asked SFA why Traverso, UEFA Head of Club Licensing had told the SFA a different narrative than UEFA Media told STV Grant.

Traverso explained why (RFC) the club were refused a licence in 2012 and (TRFC/RIFC) the new club/company were ineligible to apply for a licence for 3 consecutive years until they had been members of the SFA for that time.

STV Grant’s version was almost identical but left out the “new” info.

Lots of wriggling went on last June.

  17. Italiabhoy

Back then blogging was relatively new and lots of people found it a way of getting involved, making comments and moving on – most of it light hearted stuff – It now seems people see it as a way of trying to impose their view at any cost with quality making way for quantity. Sometimes you wouldn’t think this was a Celtic or even football blog – but as we say open to all.

You can still find some gems among the drivel.
