Ill-equipped strikers, King ramblings and a league without Celtic

545

A week into preseason Celtic play their first 90 minutes of the campaign tomorrow afternoon away to Linz in Austria. It will be great to see the team play (CelticTV) but tomorrow is all about getting the legs moving without injury. Thereafter expectations will ramp up quickly.

‘News’ that Nadir Ciftci has been told he can find a new club will have shocked you, I know. You and I had many opportunities to watch Nadir at Dundee United, while Ronny Deila considered his purchase. The player’s languid interpretation of the game made him a surprising signing at the time.

Maybe Ronny knows something we don’t? Was the hope. He didn’t. It was a rank bad signing, one of several strikers acquired during Ronny’s tenure who didn’t look like Celtic players on paper and looked even less equipped in hoops.

Ronny, of course, did try to sign Moussa Dembele in January 2016, so it would be wrong to conclude he had a blind spot for strikers, but you will struggle to name some who ‘passed through Parkhead’s gates’ in recent seasons.

I only caught up with Dave King’s ramblings yesterday evening. He fancies Newco to reach 10-in-a-row before Celtic do so. They stand a far better chance if we leave Scottish football.  Remember when Charles Green promised Newco would never compete in the Scottish Premier League, knowing fine well the league were committed to an imminent rebrand?  Not laughing so much now, are you?

Celtic are always looking at this, always working on one or other strategy.

Wasn’t aware of that, suppose Hibs desperate for a striker. Won the Championship last season without breaking the 60 goal barrier and have since lost Cummings.

Thats why I think predictions of them being the ‘best of the rest’ as Lenny said he was aiming for, or even comfortably top 6, may be a bit far fetched, at least next season.

  2. Aberdeen are looking to sign Stevie May, if they get him May, Greg Stewart and Ryan Christie is a handy looking forward line.

Weren’t we ment to be after Lafferty when Lenny was incharge????.

Dodged a bullet I always thought.

I think it was when GS was still in charge. The plus for us-apart from not signing him-was to push up his price.

If you’ll pardon the pun,£4m,yer having a laff!

We did the same with Naismith about then too.

  6. Stevie May went to SW having scored just less than a goal every 2 games for St J – (sure posters on here were touting him for us at the time). Hasn’t set the heather alight for SW or Preston

  7. Johnny Hayes moving to us has certainly weakend the dons – so they certainly need a striker – Boyce turning them down for Burton says everything about money in engerland.

May only spent one season at SW then went to PNE. He got injured and was out for 15 months. Still a decent signing for Aberdeen, if he can get back to where he was pre injury.

  9. I know it’s early days yet, but it looks like no one has upset the Celtic Trust or The Green Brigade today, so that in itself has to be a great start to the day for all of us, long may it continue.HH.

  10. I see Leo Fasan is still listed as being in the first team squad – thought his contract was up in May. Saw him on loan at PV – did ok but looked like his level

  12. Hand of God used to be the moniker of one of the moderators on the old BBC old firm fans forum, way back in the day. the poster here of that name may be the same person, he may not. only he could confirm, if he was of a mind to. It makes no difference either way.

I’m not going to comment on any of the stuff that went on yesterday except to say that I’ve met both the guys involved in the ‘Allegations’ – lovely guys, both of them and nothing that’s been said or done here will change that opinion. I look forward to meeting both of them again, and will be very happy to be in their company whenever i get the chance to be.

Winning Captains, I’ve never met, but look forward to the day that I do. I’m appreciative of what he’s done via this place, and the committments he’s made, and would love to sit down with him over a beer or two and just chat about Celtic and anything else.

Other than that I’m not qualified to speak to.

Too often, stuff written on blogs, forums and other internet media is taken out of context and way too literally. That’s a generalisation, and not specifically about anything or anyone who posts here. I’ve never been offended by anything I’ve read here. Some of it i don’t like, or have no interest in, but it’s so easy to ignore it or scroll past, believe me. The internet is not real life.

I honestly believe that there’s not one contributor on this blog who would wish actual physical harm on anyone else who posts here. But. That belief is based only on experience of posting in places like this.

There was a guy, on one previous forum who was a complete nutter, and i think there may have been some physical reaction to something which another poster had written, but that situation was an accident waiting to happen. I’d be staggered if no-one currently posting here was aware of this incident, as i know of one guy, i think, who posted on the same forum at the same time, and posts here. None of you who post here set off the same warning bells this guy did.

RESPECT is a very big word.

Take care all, and don’t forget…..real Fitba’ is back today ! I suspect things might start tosettle down a bit.

  13. Just had a thought on FFP in engerland – do parachute payments not go against this – I know last year Newcastle etc got £40m each – and i think the payments go on.

This surely encourages financial mismanagement and disadvantages teams trying to go up through the leagues.

    Just a thought

  14. Too much hand wringing and soul searching going on about the contents of the blog. For gods sake, its a blog.Hundreds of people coming on,all with different views and opinions.Too many taking it all too serious. The blog has some great merits.Open to all, from cantankerous old gits like Tony Donnelly, who is also great fun to read,to the perpetual whinger,Neganon, who always gets me up for a rebuttal, but at least gets some juices flowing. If you were in the pub with a crowd, you would have the same arguments.Politics will always be a bone of contention, but that again is normal.

At the end of the day,we are all diehard Tims or we would not be on here.I love this Blog.Being out here, there are very few people I can talk to about Celtic,or get their opinions shoved in my face,or vice versa, but thats football.Thats loving Celtic. The only thing I cannot stand are people coming on here and having a go at Paul 67.It may be his Blog, but is he not entitled to his opinions?,just like the rest of us.

I will always be grateful to Paul and this Blog for making me feel, although 2,000 miles away,a part of The Celtic Family.Long may it continue.

God bless you all,and enjoy the coming season, starting tonight.

I think what you are saying is that the Green Brigade and the Celtic Trust haven’t upset you today.

Regarding your advice yesterday that people shouldn’t go where they aren’t wanted it occurs to me that if our forefathers had been of the same opinion there would be no Celtic.

I think one of the problems on the blog, is that some take things too seriously.

Lots of posters like to crack gags, im one, however, anything else is just banter and blag.

I suggested yesterday, that if james joyce himself penned an article for CQN, some posters would complain he is using too many words. Of course, it was a joke, but i may contain some truth.

    People need to chill out.

the GB nor The Celtic Trust do not upset me at all, what you Think I am saying is entirely up to you mate, that’s your thoughts and your entitled to them with that I have no problem.

As for my forefathers, they where pathfinders and went all over the world leaving places they where not liked for better life’s , as for there never being a CFC? I get that, but I would be here all day on that one way to long, don’t look to deep into it, I was meaning not what you think, I was meaning, don’t go to the Hun end at Hampden when it was a Celtic V Rangers cup final, or walk through Brighton + when a walks on wearing a Celtic top shouting girfu, or taking Hannibal Lecter to a salad bar in merchant city, simple things like that, that’s kinda the way my old man put it to me.

  23. Let’s hope the 96 get justice, and the truth is outed, it’s been far far to long for this charade to have gone on, the institution are in the dock, so let’s see how it goes, those poor souls never came home from a football game so very very sad.
