Ill-equipped strikers, King ramblings and a league without Celtic

545

A week into preseason Celtic play their first 90 minutes of the campaign tomorrow afternoon away to Linz in Austria. It will be great to see the team play (CelticTV) but tomorrow is all about getting the legs moving without injury. Thereafter expectations will ramp up quickly.

‘News’ that Nadir Ciftci has been told he can find a new club will have shocked you, I know. You and I had many opportunities to watch Nadir at Dundee United, while Ronny Deila considered his purchase. The player’s languid interpretation of the game made him a surprising signing at the time.

Maybe Ronny knows something we don’t? Was the hope. He didn’t. It was a rank bad signing, one of several strikers acquired during Ronny’s tenure who didn’t look like Celtic players on paper and looked even less equipped in hoops.

Ronny, of course, did try to sign Moussa Dembele in January 2016, so it would be wrong to conclude he had a blind spot for strikers, but you will struggle to name some who ‘passed through Parkhead’s gates’ in recent seasons.

I only caught up with Dave King’s ramblings yesterday evening. He fancies Newco to reach 10-in-a-row before Celtic do so. They stand a far better chance if we leave Scottish football.  Remember when Charles Green promised Newco would never compete in the Scottish Premier League, knowing fine well the league were committed to an imminent rebrand?  Not laughing so much now, are you?

Celtic are always looking at this, always working on one or other strategy.

  1. Delaney’s and green man. I was near the back of them pyramid field and,the screens didn’t actually show what was going on. Instead it was some arty nonsense (the artic monkeys did the same a few years ago). The start of the gig was incredibly dull and by the time they got round to playing some of the good stuff half the back of the field had gone on to pastures new (or to bed).

I was aware from pals those at home were enjoying it. Since then the BBC have been telling everyone how fab it was.

Like I say I am a big fan(seen them several times). If you compare the gig with foo fighters then it’s a no brainer.

Anyway the rest of glasto was magic.

    Macjay,

can i ask your view on the Tory/DUP deal,

    ========================================================

There is one overriding issue dominating the British political scene right now .

    Negotiating Brexit.

My understanding of the DUP and its personnel is certainly not in depth.

However , Martin Mc Guinness had amicable relations and apparently sound working relations with Ian Paisley

Now my generation of Tims viewed R.I.P. , Pastor Jack Glass etc.as bigoted ogres .

Real politik sometimes results in having to accept strange bed fellows.

I would have far greater confidence in the Tories negotiating Brexit than anybody in the Labour party.

    Anybody.

Intrinsically , ” business” is in the DNA of the Tory party.

A billion is chicken feed in the context of what is at stake for the good British people.

Northern Irish Unionists are Irishmen and I most certainly couldn`t accept them as ergo being supporters of the UVF or the UDA or any of the other Northern terrorist organisations.

Handled properly on both sides of the Irish sea , Brexit could be the spur for a united Ireland.

Ah, Myrtle St. ,Cedar St., et al.

All in the vicinity of Hopehill Rd, Garscube Rd. and St.George’s Rd.

St. Columba’s Primary and Junior Secondary School was situated in the heart of that area.

Myrtle St., if I remember correctly, ran between Hopehill Rd and, was it Cameron St.?

Cedar St. ran from the end of the aforementioned Query Cameron St., to St.George’s Rd, just before the junction with North Woodside Rd.

    Hazy, but happy memories.

Loved the time Jack Glass was standing for election in Hillhead. Saint Thomas Aquinas in the constiuency. The wee bassa and his orange supporters would turn up during lessons and shout anti papal stuff at us in our classrooms over loud speaker. Thankfully we had a few rebel teachers who let us out early one Wednesday afternoon. The bhoys split in two. Half fae behind half fae the front. Was great to see motors wrecked and huns squeal. Never saw Jack Glass near Saint Tams after that day.

Pastor Jack had a wee sidekick that he totally brainwashed, and i mean badly.

His followers used to have a wee cult pad behind Tennants Bar.

What a bunch they were, seriously.

The wee sidekick told me one night, that somebody had broken into the cult pad, and stole his electricity from his meter.

He said it was alright though, because he had just been to see the Chief Constable about it.

    Brexit is a disaster

    ===================================

    It is a disaster.

    For Europe.

The E.U.now represents a classic attempt to combine a plethora of political antagonists into one big feel good family where some members can`t abide the political and / or religious stances of the others.

    The Soviet Union tried that.

Viz the barbed wire on the Southern border of Hungary.

Greece still holding out the begging bowl.

Demonstrations in Milan ( ? ) against the massive influx of ” refugees “.

    Every week another terrorist outrage.

The EC is doomed to failure in spite of the current rapprochement between Angela and Macron.

Its a failed state because people enjoy their nationalism, their individualism , their identity.

They dont like it being taken from them.

Do I really need to explain that to an Irishman ?

    :-)
