If you were lucky enough, like me, to enjoy a long Christmas holiday, I hope you had a good one. I’m sure few of us are delighted to be back at it today but there’s an indisputable mood on the blog for bringing in the New. A fresh start is needed and fortunately we’re at the start of the transfer window.
For Celtic most attention will be directed towards recruiting a striker who is capable of doing the business in the Champions League, not to overlook the important point of doing the business in Champions League qualifiers. 20-year-old Icelandic striker, Holmbert Fridjobsson, finally joins the club this month but although we’ll hopefully see plenty of the player this month he is surely considered ‘one for the future’.
One prolific striker does not solve all of Celtic’s issues, however. The club remains acutely dependent on Kris Commons’ creativity (as well as goal scoring), which will become increasingly less-effective as opponents setup to inhibit him. He needs a foil.
Since the annihilation in Barcelona Celtic have offered greater protection from midfield but with both full backs encouraged to overlap the midfield anchor role, previously occupied by Wanyama, becomes crucially important. It also offers support to the strategy of allowing Commons a free role as an attacking midfielder.
Over the break, Archie MacPherson, Scotland’s greatest ever broadcaster, wrote an article for Celtic Quick News comparing two of Scotland’s greatest ever managers. These debates are, of course, subjective, but the article provides a few objective points for consideration. Archie has a totally unique range to deal with this question and is in no doubt as to who the master was. Look out for the article next week, you’ll enjoy it – no guessing now.

How dare you mock Appeals.
They have a very difficult job trying to avoid doing their job. There isn’t enough hours in the day for their internet shopping!

Fantastic well thought through and passionate post.
I wish I had your patience passion and energy to put forward such logic to folk who don’t want to listen
I do think the board could have bee. More pro active re a change of playing environment rather than just batten down the hatches post Seville.
The comparison with Ajax Benfica Sparta and anderlecht is the one. Sadly any common interest has not been followed up with any energy by DD. PL etc. indeed the common aims and potential solution was described to me as a frankensteins monster by a major exec board member.
TET- I had 2 train carriages to myself going to work this morning. Normally packed.
Ticket man said “do you know your flies undone?” I said “whistle the tune, I’ll probably know it!”

Jimbo67
She has had agents contacting her asking her to submit stuff, so she is half way there, she has done stuff for women’s mags in the past, she has also done research for people, but she wants to do her book thing.
I just let her get on with it, it’s the best way >}

Proudbhoy-as far as I know there have been no talks- Celtic sent the letters banning 128 and redistributing the others to other parts of the ground- they then gave the 128 access to tickets for another match- and then stopped this again- all without any further communication to the fans involved
Gordon.
Cheers. Ill try and get a hold of spikey..

Badly named group as well as they’re not very appealing looking.

Sometimes the SMSM get it right….just the odd time.
Hope there is substance in this rumour about Steven Fletcher.
A perfect answer to our striker problem,in my humble opinion.
Wouldl score a barrowload and maybe even better player than Gary Hooper was.
My only worry with Fletcher is his history of injuries. As OSB says,we missed the boat with him.Personally,I would rather go for Alfie,or Rhodes.Probably get someone no one has mentioned.I do like Fletchers attitude. He is a real trier.
Cheers lennybhoy.
Received..
Gordon waiting on Paul giving me spikeysauldmans details..
The armchair fans are missing the o/f thingy……they don’t like to brave the elements……they like nothing better than a wee crowd sitting round the telly …..talking of yesteryear……and their stories of how they knew the players personally
Just an alternative to media & £6m for Fletcher
How about £1.5 for Shane Long, plus say £1.5 signing on fee, paying at top of pay bracket, a 3 year deal, the signing on fee is worth £10k extra per week
Know which player I would take
BT, nail on head earlier, need a supply to front line first, but also need someone who wants to play up front through the middle, and would attack the ball
Hail Hail
Forget Fletcher he’s to injury prone now and sure as fate if we sign him he’ll get injuried.
BT…
I will keep the tickets until I hear from you.
Meant to add in last post, the £3m saving on £6m for Fletcher goes towards a forward passing/attacking and thinking Midfielder
Hail hail
SFTB ,sorry if I sounded offhand about the system we are playing.I am so p!ssed off with watching this crap it is getting me down.My biggest moan is I really do think we have the makings of a very good team.So something is wrong.Ledley for example, was a box to box player,so was BroonyNow they hold, sit deeper.Against Hearts and Well they were all over the place, even scoredOur two full backs had an absolute ball.I hate talking about systems, but at the moment we have no shape,no tactics, and at ICT we did resort to punting the ball high in Sammis direction.Something is wrong.
Pint of Pure time. Night all.
Just done a wee field test regarding Steven fletcher and can report he is NOT the answer ……..
Played FIFA 14 today without fletcher and got beat
Played FIFA 14 just there with fletcher and got beat……
Anymore targets and I’ll try with them HH
