Inter trepidation, Packy, Tommy, Joe & Patricia

809

Inter have hit a bit of form recently but comments coming out of Milan indicate their visit to Celtic Park is viewed with some trepidation.  The stadium’s Champions League reputation remains fresh in the memory, even if the team has been transformed since the last major victory over a truly top team two years ago.

A number of those who will play for Celtic on Thursday will have only seen those great European nights on television.  Playing in front of 60,000 Celtic fans will be a new experience.  Transforming this support into an energising force is our job.  Inter’s first objective will be to frustrate and quieten the crowd.  My hunch is that this will be difficult.

We have the line-up confirmed for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, which is at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13 March.  Topping the bill for the Q&A is Packy Bonnar, Jock Stein’s last signing, who made his debut on St Patrick’s Day 1979.

Packy’s Celtic and Ireland team-mate, Tommy Coyne, will also be taking part.  Tommy had an incredible career and speaks intelligently on football, and life in general.  We’re also delighted to have Joe Miller.  Joe played in the same Celtic team as Packy and Tommy.  Part of our historic Centenary Team, he also scored that unforgettable Scottish Cup Final winner.  More recently Joe formed the Association of Former Celtic Players.

To mark the 50th anniversary of Jock Stein’s first game as Celtic manager, which takes place that week, we also have Jock’s personal friend and biographer, Archie Macpherson will speak about the great man.  If you’ve ever needed inspiration…..

I’m also delighted to confirm we have Celtic’s First Lady of Song, Patricia Ferns, who is making the journey over from Ireland for our night.

Let me know if you still need a ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com

I don’t want to get on your case, because I have met you and know you’re a top lad; but I too was surprised that you “cut off” one of our own. You are better than that, mate.

Imagine the training session at Murray park taken by Kenny McDowall:

“OK youse guys … here’s how we train to beat the Sellik.

Goalkeeper – batter that baw as far doon the park as you can.

Full backs – boot the baw as far doon the park as you can

Midfielders – noo, if you actually get the baw in Sellik’s hauf, chip it as high as you can intae their boax.

Forwards – jump as high as you can for any baw that comes intae their boax.

Guaranteed – at least one shot over the bar in the 90 minutes. Got tae keep the stats looking good. Keeps us in a joab”

  5. So they are talking about allowing drink back at the football again…. A bit ironic then that the Kerrydale suite ain’t open to the public before and after the game on Thursday.

Apparently Celtic are selling places for the place.

Can’t help but think that’s a big slap in the face for regulars and may well come back to bite the club??

    Am I wrong ?

Should Celtic exploit our biggest game of the season and make as much as they can or show a bit of loyalty to those who regularly use it?

I saw Celtic research tweet about it earlier on, are you recycling their points? There’s talk about under cover twitter accounts who are sevco journos. There are many on twitter who always bring up issues when things are going well for the club or we have a big week. The Club has the right to maximise revenue from the match and the price is for the same for executive seating you get in other stands. This function bar facilitates the Jock Stein stand padded seating.

The Kerrydale bar fills up every week, personally, for me it’s an occasional thing if I want to get to Paradise early, it’s a bonus not an absolute right of going. There are lot’s of pub’s in Glasgow.

To be clear this is a hospitality package including tickets for the padded seats. It’s not a price you would be able (or expected to) pay in addition to a normal match ticket.

In essence it’s a return to the hospitality packages of the days when we sold out regularly.

The reality is that entrance to the Kerrydale should be viewed as a bonus that’s come about as a result of less corporate packages being sold these days. If we ever get to the point where the ground is near full all the time, it’ll be back to the old days where only corporates get access.

  12. STV are reporting that no action to be taken over sectarian signing at the League cup semi final .

The report makes it appear that both supporters were guilty and feature the GB banner prominently with the poppy.

Now I wasn’t at the game but can anyone who was enlighten me on what blatantly sectarian activities the Celtic support were involved in?

    No?

I am simply asking what price loyalty …..about £85 it would seem.

I am an infrequent user of the KDS as because of work I’m always at the coo’s tail for midweek games.

I do know of a few that do frequent it regularly who won’t be going back to it now.

To me it seems like a bit of a slap in the face to those who use it.

If folk wont use it again this may be a false economy.

I wasn’t aware that I always had to agree with everything Celtic do so apologies if in talking about this I have rocked the boat.

Didn’t realise that social media should only be used to promote positivity about the club.

  16. The Kerrydale Suite is a great place for supporters travelling from afar. Once you have arrived via bus and ferry, it saves you from searching about for bars.

I will have my 13 year old with me on Thursday, and I was looking froward to getting a safe environment to have a beer before the game.

Looks like I’ll have to go and hunt out a child-friendly bar now.

Ah mean if Celtic are to knock back say 1000 supporters paying £85 is that not stupidity, some of these wee plans and alterations mean you can take £100 off the price of a season ticket for a couple of years…!

not at all, we don’t all have to agree and I’m not arguing with you. All I’m saying it I was wondering how long it would take for this to move from twitter to here. There is a perfectly rational explanation see weeminger’s post and the source was from twitter earlier. That’s all I’m saying. Sensational instant outrage of twitter I suppose where there really isn’t a story.

    =====================================

I was there, it was terrible. The horrible bigoted racist sectarian Celtic fans were singing one of their vile songs called The Celtic Symphony, and the bigots belted out “Ooh Aah, up the Ra” (once)….it made me feel sick, as the The Rangers supporters were singing nursery rhymes, or hymns or something like that. They deserved to win the game for their angelic tunes choir alone, not to mention the scintillating football they had on display, only to be robbed by 2 breakaway goals and some highly dubious refereeing decisions. And we wonder why Scottish Football is the way it is.
