Inter will know they’ve been in a game

865

Someone asked me a few weeks ago if this was a must-win game.  Clearly it’s not, the cup games are must-win, as is the coming league game against Aberdeen, but tomorrow night is an important weathervane, indicating if the club is on the road to recovery.

Since that great high against Barcelona, we have faced Italian opposition twice, both in 2013, losing home games 0-3 to Juventus and Milan.  You can trace the decline in European performances through a subsequent Champions League group stage which concluded with five defeats, and last summer’s abject qualification campaign.

Indications are we are a better team now than we were in August, or even when qualifying from our Europa League group, but there is still an almighty task ahead tomorrow night.  I suspect none of this recent history will affect Ronny and his players.  The manager has told the players they can win.  Most of them are playing like they have a point to prove, all of them are looking forward to the challenge.

Inter will know they’ve been in a game.

    Good point.

But I don’t think anyone would want the embarrassment of admitting to my posts, even for tonight’s evocative match, unless he’s the genuine article!

Be careful if Jobo is at CQN Corner tonight. Your Road to Damascus Travel Report is the Magnum Opus for which he has been searching.

    REQUEST.

Just received a text from Tully 57, who is Romania, in a town called Brasov.

He is on a charity trip with friends.

He asks if anyone knows of any bar who may be showing our game.

    Thanks in advance.

Don’t take this the wrong way but . . .

There will be 60,000 cheering on Celtic tonight. There will be countless millions willing the Bhoys to victory in clubs and bars and homes all over the world.

Wear the new scarf, unless you really do believe that the hopes of millions of Celtic supporters hinge on what you alone decide to wear to the game.

So, Mancini says Scottish football has improved a lot in the last few years.

Tsk, tsk Roberto. Get with the agenda – Scottish football needs a strong “Rangers”. Apparently…..

    Jungle Jim,

I always wear a scarf my Da bought me 20 years ago, he passed away 13 years ago.

I was distraught when rushing to a game when I realised I had left my scarf. Bought a replacement outside and we spanked Benfica 3-0!!!!

    Wear either scarf……or both!!

  26. Hoping for a win tonight obviously but this is going to be a real test for our players, it will be a totally different game to the usual bog standard SPL games we play.

It’s a big step up lets hope our players can make that step & make it another memorable night at Paradise

  27. I was listening to BBC Radio Scotland around 7:30 this morning.

After the news, it was sport, and the presenter said, “Ronny Deila believes Celtic can beat Inter Milan tonight, but club captain Scott Brown is more realistic.”

Broonie was then heard saying it will be a really difficult game.

There then followed an interview with an Italian journalist from Gazetta Dela Sport. The presenter said, “Roberto Mancini told reporters yesterday that Celtic are a good side. Do you think he was just being polite?”

What is it with the media in Scotland? Instead of trying to talk up our game, all they can do is demean any praise coming our way from overseas.

It is now deemed “unrealistic” for the Celtic manager to say his team can win the game.

    Pathetic.
