Inter will know they’ve been in a game

865

Someone asked me a few weeks ago if this was a must-win game.  Clearly it’s not, the cup games are must-win, as is the coming league game against Aberdeen, but tomorrow night is an important weathervane, indicating if the club is on the road to recovery.

Since that great high against Barcelona, we have faced Italian opposition twice, both in 2013, losing home games 0-3 to Juventus and Milan.  You can trace the decline in European performances through a subsequent Champions League group stage which concluded with five defeats, and last summer’s abject qualification campaign.

Indications are we are a better team now than we were in August, or even when qualifying from our Europa League group, but there is still an almighty task ahead tomorrow night.  I suspect none of this recent history will affect Ronny and his players.  The manager has told the players they can win.  Most of them are playing like they have a point to prove, all of them are looking forward to the challenge.

Inter will know they’ve been in a game.

    ———————————–

“…a number of supporters—emailed the BBC to ask that I be sacked from my job because, during a cup final, I suggested that I was disappointed with the sectarian singing. That became a semantic debate about what “sectarian” means. The song went something like: “As a young man, I’m going to join the IRA (provisional wing)”. It offended me and I do not want to hear it at a football ground. I was shocked and surprised that Celtic Football Club and a great number of fans complained to the BBC…”

Pat Nevin heard nothing – he was asked by Rob McLean about “reports” of sectarian singing – which we later found out came from a bigot who was stirring the shit. In my view Pat Nevin lied to the Justice Committee about what he heard – he heard nothing. He was in the studio. Also – I doubt anyone called for his sacking on the basis of a semantic debate – it was because he lied about Celtic fans singing something they didn’t sing. His comments were a disgrace. As far as I’m concerned Pat Nevin is a craven liar who will say anything to line his pockets. He has an over-inflated sense of his own worth as an opinion-giver.

Nevin said publicly that he would meet the Celtic supporters to explain himself.

We also had specific information re the bigot at the BBC who we wanted to expose.

We got what we wanted from that.

If you were at the interview you would have witnessed a good cop / bad cop routine where BRTH was the good guy and I was the hostile one.

I put my thoughts on record earlier this evening re Nevin.

I don’t dislike wee Jamesy, but for me he is a one-trick pony who drops a shoulder and beats a fullback, he panics in front of goal (imo) but I like GMS for one simple reason, he tries daft things that when they come off they are magic, when they don’t he tries them again….., in the SPL, especially at Parkhead we need that bit of genius, at Parkhead some SPL defenders just deny James F the space, I like the look of Armstrong but GMS intrigues me……..he could go onto to anything he wants to be (as well as Stuart Armstrong) glad we got them both

  10. BTW – the footage of the racist Chelsea fans is currently being aired on Newsnight. No Nevin-like equivocation from the main BBC reporters. It was Chelsea fans singing racist songs and abusing and intimidating a black guy. As I say, Nevin is a craven liar who will say whatever it takes to line his pockets.

Big Nan, thanks for posting Nevin’s comments to that sham of a hearing.

I can not believe I held him in such esteem in the thirty years prior to his comments in the 2011 cup final.

He’s a media lackey with an inflated sense of his own importance, Dr P Nevin, puh.

He’s a nae use nuthin fae naewhere that knows heh haw about hee haw.

In your opinion having met Mr Nevin, do you think he will make any statement on that incident from the Chelsea fans ? That thing happens far too often in any lifetime but when it is highlighted it should be exposed the the full….. Mr Nevin will not comment, and I haven’t met him

    ——-

As someone who posts on CQN I stated at the time that I was opposed to him being given a platform by this site. If Nevin wanted an opportunity to explain himself then we should have allowed some other Celtic outlet to conduct the interview.

This is only my opinion as a poster and I’m sure there are many other posters, who have as much as a right as me, who’ll disagree.

Regarding the bigot at the BBC.

    Do we know his name?

Did we really need an interview with Pat Nevin to make us aware of an anti Celtic influence within this organisation?

  25. I have posted this before…the guy who set the ball rolling re Celtic fans sectarian singing at the cup final was the OB director who just happened to be a Celtic hating jambo. If you still have the recording, I urge you to look at Rob McLean’s face. He was told to comment on something no one in the studio had heard. No wonder he looked hesitant and confused. Also, I have heard Dr Nev’s reasons for giving up on the club he loved so much…ira…and corporate entity. However, he told a colleague and me it was MoN’s style of football that drove him away…wee rat!
