By my simple reckoning the money culpably squandered on Derk would pay the £2000 for about seventy five years.

  2. 10 years ago, with my limited involvement and understanding, I wrote a paper for my MBA about a balanced commercial solution to the growing power of the big 4 football leagues in Europe. Nothing too clever I grant you.

Anyone from Ajax to Celtic to Galatasary to Anderlecht to Sporting Lisbon to Feyenoord could see the writing on the wall. Celtic more than most. Yet in the intervening period nothing has happened.

Aside from the results I have actually enjoyed our Europa Group games this year. We were competing at a realistic level. Although not too well in the end. The games were at least interesting as contests.

Back then I recall advocating a regional north europe league offering us Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord, Anderlecht, Standard Liege, Copenhagen, Malmo, Rosenburg etc as this would surely be more interesting and financially viable than the usual round of Ross County and Motherwell and Kilmarnock.

For me The removal of the glass ceiling is by far the biggest objective our club custodians should have addressed.

Sadly our leadership have had an ostrich like approach, at best waiting for change to happen and managing their milking strategy well. Their view that a Frankenstein’s monster ( direct quote of our CEO) would never work vs the dysfunctional current state of our league structure has been proven to be at best myopic.

Seeing the pathetic 11th hour attempts at collaboration with other non top their leagues regarding CL qualification is pissing in the wind. The boat has long since sailed.

Pathetic and disappointing. The boards biggest failing IMO.

I thought of you as an objective poster on Cqn and not one to have personal attacks and as such find that post very much against what Cqn was started as and I can say I am very disappointed in your attack to a man who is very much do more educated than I and lots more on this site

The 147(?) employees who received the LW on the 1st July are now receiving 40p/hour below the National LW rate.

There are in excess of 400 match day staff who’ve never been in receipt of it.

Bankier stated at the AGM that it’s not in the club’s best interests to pay their employees a LW.

    Them’s the facts.

Lest it get lost in the Move On propaganda war of the Scottish media

readers should be clear that in June 2011 RFC lied to retain their licence to play in the CL.

In 2012 they failed to provide the paperwork to SPL lawyers that should also have been given to the SFA in 2011.

In 2011 the SFA were negligent at best, complicit at worst.

But get this. In 2014 SFA were asked if they had had sight of the wee tax case bill in 2011 to which they said there were no papers in SFA files and more than a year later they have

    a) stonewalled on confirming the above which is what enquirers were told in 2014 ie no bill submitted, but more seriously have failed as far as is known to raise the issue with Andrew Dickson the RFC/TRFC man who was at RFC in 2011 and sat on 3 out of 4 Liicencing Committee meetings that year and at TRFC in 2012, to find out why the same information kept from SPL lawyers in 2012 was kept from SFA in 2011.

Do the SFA realise that since 2014 they may be covering up a fraud they were part of in 2011 and is that why they continue to stonewall on answering a letter put to them by Celtic shareholders ?

    Move on?

Not until the guilty are named or a valid explanation given for SFA inaction

Simples re LW the club pays it and takes the credit and defuses the issue

£2k a week is peanuts to them. What is £0.1k in the numbers they produce, whether it is a £7.5m profit or a £3m loss. Think about it. It is lost in the roundings.

Think of the headlines if your choice was implemented.

“Celtic only pay living wage because of fans additional donations”

“Celts fans make good on a poor board” etc etc

Big Pete could even drop his salary to a lowly £900k to cover it.

I understand where your caution comes from, but the old club are way beyond help, BDO would be more or less cheating the creditors waiting on their pennies in the pound, there can be no appeal, if the dodgy knight of the realm was on the scene or the the South African stalwart had a chance they might spend other people’s money, am afraid by law BDO can’t

Interesting comment regarding spoilt fans and the number of draws in that horrible 94/95 season.

A recent away trip saw only 3 of my CSC’s travelling group (out of 12) with dates of birth pre 1995. Now, not that these bhoys are spoiled but at primary school they lived through larsson, i lived through Aberdeen skelping us for years…..

  29. Some random thoughts on Stuart Armstrong,

Like GMS, played his first game for us on February 11th, in a team that had momentum and was playing well. His energy and influence was welcome. Has been played on the left hand side since day one, not his position but he has been full of endeavour. Definitely seems to be suffering from second season syndrome. The team is not as cohesive, hence the pressure and intensity goes up a notch. He was also injured at the start of the season which won’t have helped him. It’s not happening for him at the moment and it could be argued that he needs a break before his confidence hits rock bottom. There has been ample opportunity to give him a chance in his preferred position through the middle but for whatever reason he not been played there. I think we need to be careful that we don’t waste a really good player.

    Thom

Aye, the game has moved on big time, was listening to Off the Ball on Newstalk yesterday, they were talking about Brighton and them playing 442, they were in praise of them but to a man, they all said that 442 in the epl would bomb as most are now playing 4231, as they are euro wide, and so many have the head in the sand wanting us to play 2 up front.

It’s obvious they don’t have a scooby, we actually play with 3 minimum up front, but cos it’s no a 442, jeezo, give me strength.

I agree that those you mentioned are finished, there are weans coming on stream that will blow them away.

I am happy to ride the storm, we have a few years to get it right, and give him the kinda players he wants he will get it right, you don’t win the league with a Hamilton type of team by luck, aye, it took him six years, but that was no fluke, that was hard work and commitment, and some want to throw that away, Dearie Me.

This is the same Celtic support who profess not to read the media that are spouting them verbatim, how feckin sad it that.

    HH

    PS

It’s up to the suits to back him, cos I will tell you this, if he is hunted, it will be our loss, he will be a top, top coach, and I hope it’s with us.

  31. Watched the game again, paying particular attention to Carlton Cole. He looks totally out of condition and not just because he lacks match fitness. Hope he can regain some proper fitness, as we need someone of his build to take on some of the more agricultural players we meet weekly in the SPFL.

By the bye, hat doffed to HT and all the others who travelled up to the game through appalling conditions. Hope each and everyone returned safely.
