It’s all about Tannadice, your AIM nomad

808

The stage is set. Dundee United, the club who were last to beat Celtic, stand in the way of their treble ambitions, as the clubs meet on three consecutive occasions next month.  The first game, a Scottish Cup quarter final at Tannadice, is the most crucial.

United lost their best two players last week but they remain they will know that beating Celtic at home will make them favourites for the Scottish Cup.  They will be far less confident at the following week’s League Cup final, Dundee United expectations are always low at Hampden, but pressure will be on the club to win their home game.

A note on the suitability or otherwise of a director of a public company.  In the UK, only the courts can ban you from being a company director, HMRC cannot ban you, any more than they can ban you from driving.  In the UK, public companies are held to a higher standard than private companies.  If anyone presents to you claiming, “HMRC have never banned me from driving/being a company director”, you know your being misled.  The same is true for most jurisdictions.

The AIM market requires companies to have nominated adviser (nomad), which carries out regulator duties on behalf of the market, and ultimately shareholders.  The fact that UK, or other, courts have not prohibited you from being a company director implies nothing about your suitability as a director of a public company.  When it comes to the AIM market, this suitability is judged by your effective regulator, your nomad.  A recent history of financial criminal activity, for example, will give your nomad plenty to consider, as would a recent history of being a director in a liquidated public company.  Far more would decline such a candidate than approve.

The Treble in first season is history making stuff.

The Quadruple mind blowing, but possible. I believe! :)

  2. Overhyped EPL is boring to watch and English only by geography. I find the organic Scottish game much more interesting and entertaining. Of course if it were run by competent people who actually talked it up and showed some enthusiasm, then perhaps a better TV deal would be forthcoming.

The English TV deal however is obscene and given to a set up that lost its soul and identity years ago.

I hope that one day it crashes and burns!

“Bit of an obscure question here but….. Does anyone know of a celtic bar in southern Cameroon?”

Unlikely you will get a positive answer but…

I do remember a wee guy that used to stroll around CP shouting “There’s your Wrigleys chewing gum and There’s yir Cameroon Bars!”

    Maybe he knows

Im in oz over 3 yrs so not sure how good bt is.

How many games do they get and do they get their fare share of big games ..super sunday kick offs ?

    ———-

BTs main games are played Saturday lunch time, they get plenty of top games.

But really money to Sky or BT doesn’t really matter, both the same

That photo reminds me of the time fog caused a game v Hibs to be abandoned with not long to go, and us 1, maybe 2 down.

It had also started raining during the game . . .bottles!

Only time I’ve been on the pitch, to escape them.

    Spot on

Any time I have been in Ireland on holiday in SE corner in various places between Dublin and Gorey, Co Wexford, all you see and hear is EPL EPL especially MU and Liverpool.

Celtic seem to be regarded as a joke club as you say and there seems a perception that supporting Celtic equates to taking a particular position in Irish historical issues – which many in the Dublin area seem to think is beneath them or terribly terribly so old fashioned.

  7. Does anyone know what the viewing numbers for celtic tv was when it was on setanta ?

Any idea the number of subscriptions celtic tv currently has ?

Surely Celtic TV should be broadcasting games on pay per view/ subscription basis worldwide. That must be worth miles more than what they currently get?

    ——————————————————————————————————————–

    They do already.

I don’t think it generates as much income as you think it might plus it is killing overseas CSCs. Also, these live streams find themselves onto the world wide web and can be watched by anyone anywhere on the planet for zip as long as they have decent broadband. Thus far Celtic TV has been unable to stop this happening. This no doubt affect match day attendances at CP.

You must be on the wrong package, I’m under £50 for unlimited fibre broadband, line rental and free weekend calls (everyone’s on mobiles now, so it doesn’t matter) with BT Sport thrown in as well….and my work pays the line rental :) Seriously, give them a call.

Why do schools always seem to hold parents nights when Celtic are playing?

Are you the surprise guest at Saturday’s Belfast Hootenanny? Was hoping you were jetting in to meet us mental bunch of Scots Tims who are going over.

Most flying from Glasgow. Not BMCUW, driving from Swindon to Cairnryan for the ferry. Mad Tims on tour!

That’s because it’s only available to overseas fans and is also available on Sky/BT.

If there was no way to watch Celtic live apart from CelticTV (and that includes in the UK) then a TV Season Ticket would sell bucket loads.

Of course they still wouldn’t be able to stop the illegal streams but the money made from TV season tickets would cover those loses.

Winning Captains, is it true that without the consent of SPFL and SFA, Sky couldn’t broadcast games in this country?

    ———————————————————————————————————————

It certainly used to be the case that the football authorities could veto live coverage of a match if a lower league fixture was taking place at the same time.

  15. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

See all this talk of Atlantic League, etc. – how would us Celtic fans manage to attend the away games?

Are we to be reduced even further to nothing more than TV-Executive cannon fodder?

Or are we trying to line up bi-weekly glory-hunter Euro-games to rival the up-coming Inter tie? That won’t work – the glory hunters will tire of mid-level Euro ties, and will yearn again for “Man Yoo verses Reeeall”, then we’ll be back to recent crowd levels., but without the attraction of local rivalry to guarantee at least a reasonable level of interest.

Cater for Celtic supporters – not big event attenders – believe in Ronny, enjoy the way we are playing. Celtic are progressing well just now, this season has been really exciting- things are looking good for the Hoops – don’t yearn too much for the big-bucks satelite, commercial model – it isn’t the be-all-and-end-all.

  16. LuxCelt……………Correct when you talk about the under forties being seduced by the EPL unlike ourselves who grew up with the powerful Celtic teams of the past striding successfully on the European stage. Perhaps we saw the last of that kind of interest among the younger set when Martin O’Neill departed and the end of the Larsson, Sutton, Lambert era.

I thought Celtic had about 15,000 fans at that Aviva game which was good considering the proximity and fanaticism which surrounds Liverpool.

  17. I visit Dublin (Dun- laoghaire area) regularly and struggle to find a bar showing the Celtic game if there is a crappy EPL game on at the same time.

2-0 down to Hibs I remember. Cause of that thick fog and the gang fights in the Jungle.

  19. squire,

I haven’t been in the southern counties for a few years now, but even back then (15 years+ ago) the trend was for EPL teams. There are always pockets – Cork and Clare seemed (proportionally) to have more Celtic fans, even if they weren’t “active”, and they always had their EPL team.

Donegal and Tyrone, to me, still seem to have a significant number whose first team is Celtic, but the pressure with Sky can undoubtedly erode this. I’m not sure what the club can do about this, but I unfortunately I think we have a struggle on our hands with the rest of Ireland

  21. jeez_i_thought_blinker_was_pants,

I returned to Virgin media, I was £107 for four sky boxes, Bt was only meant to be £28 a month.

I was with them for a year when I noticed it creeping up until it got beyond a joke.

After constant arguments I cancelled both.

I’ve now got a guaranteed package for £83, rising to £94 after twelve months with the same package, bar one box.

Plus, I now have Bt sports on all boxes.

A few people I’ve spoken to had the same problem with BT….just check your unlimited internet is on going.

The struggle you refer to has been lost a long time ago, for a variety of reasons well documented on here

Half of Ireland are more English than the English, with their EPL, Eastenders and Daily Star.

  23. RTE the Irish TV station nearly always gives the Celtic result and occasionally the goals with the EPL results on the main evening 9oclock news on Saturday evenings. I should know I only live here.

  24. Kevj ( wash my mouth out ) suggests that we should boycott Celtic to message the board that we’re done with downsizing…..wat a nut…..only give them more ammo to do what they’re doing…..what about incentivising…..cheaper tickets all round to attract numbers? Families/schools…..nah av lost the thread of my thoughts grrrrrrrrrrfrrr;-((

    H.H.

  25. There has been a big decline in celtic support before i left derry… u have plenty of bhoys who pulled the hoops on for champions league nights and huns games.

Not to be seen then when the bread and butter comes in… iv been going to derry games since i can remember and got plenty of stick growing up for supporting our home town team.

Worlds full of ejits.. that will never change.

Even past few years when derry have had players like mccourt, mcginn, mcclean, forde (millwall) lafferty (burnley) mclaughlin (forest) and now duffy people still dont give the league of ireland the credit it deserves.

Thats only from derry aswel… the league has produced players like doyle ,houlihan noel hunt and good few others who all went over and were good enough to make a career for themselves.

Maybe if it had fancy studios and backpage coverage everyday people would wake up.

Very true..sickens me to see people obsessed with all these reality tv shows..soaps music etc

Irish government have fairly helped in the decline of irish culture.

No better than the people they took over from.

Recent arrests of water metre protesters shows this.. house raids and arrests for those who exercise their right to protest. Sickening.

    Always has been the case.

  31. Hankray – it is definitely a generational thing. Roughly a third of the population live in Dublin area yet I can’t name one real genuine Celtic pub in the capital. I’m sure there are one or two, but seriously can’t see there being more than that.

Celtic are a sideshow over there these days and Squire Danaher is right…. Chunks of generations X and Y consider us to be roped in with ‘the troubles’ and therefore far to unfashionably Republican for modern Dublin. Thankfully as I said already, the northeners have maintained an incredible loyalty especially given the years of lunchtime kick offs etc.

For a nation that likes to pretend it ‘hates the English’ you certainly lap up their football enough.

Just on the rugby point…. Someone mentioned Leinster with their ’25k season tickets’………the RDS only holds 18k FFS!!!!
