It’s all about Tannadice, your AIM nomad

808

The stage is set. Dundee United, the club who were last to beat Celtic, stand in the way of their treble ambitions, as the clubs meet on three consecutive occasions next month.  The first game, a Scottish Cup quarter final at Tannadice, is the most crucial.

United lost their best two players last week but they remain they will know that beating Celtic at home will make them favourites for the Scottish Cup.  They will be far less confident at the following week’s League Cup final, Dundee United expectations are always low at Hampden, but pressure will be on the club to win their home game.

A note on the suitability or otherwise of a director of a public company.  In the UK, only the courts can ban you from being a company director, HMRC cannot ban you, any more than they can ban you from driving.  In the UK, public companies are held to a higher standard than private companies.  If anyone presents to you claiming, “HMRC have never banned me from driving/being a company director”, you know your being misled.  The same is true for most jurisdictions.

The AIM market requires companies to have nominated adviser (nomad), which carries out regulator duties on behalf of the market, and ultimately shareholders.  The fact that UK, or other, courts have not prohibited you from being a company director implies nothing about your suitability as a director of a public company.  When it comes to the AIM market, this suitability is judged by your effective regulator, your nomad.  A recent history of financial criminal activity, for example, will give your nomad plenty to consider, as would a recent history of being a director in a liquidated public company.  Far more would decline such a candidate than approve.

  1. Re FC Twente. All competitions are secondary to the league even the CL despite the money because access to that money is through the league.

Comparing an Atlantic League to Europa League is apples and oranges.

The EL is a second tier midweek competition. The AL would be our weekend competition that grants us and our competitors to the CL. Its TV market and therefore it’s money would be far closer to the EPL than any deal we’ll ever get another way.

  2. Bgx – can’t agree at all re McGowan. Strong, good athlete, Aussie international, but most importantly plays several positions. Would have been a bargain as squad cover. Not a great player but with good coaching he would have been a good addition.

Your point about foreign country (in football terms) footie being dominant is one which has had me birling for years.

Scotland is unique in this exposure unless La liga is dominant in Portugal or Bundesliga is dominant in Holland or Ligue 1 dominant in Belgium.

Maybe I’m wrong but I doubt it.

I get so mad when I see cereal promotions or betting advertising or cosmetic offers in the aisles of the supermarket where stars of a foreign league are plastered over the food boxes etc.

No rights to broadcast in Scotland means it is almost impossible to broadcast to the rest of the UK.

As for the BBC? Does no-one ask questions re why Scottish football does not get a pro-rata investment? It is not as if there is no audience in Scotland for the sport. Did someone not pos on here that on a pro rata basis per head of population our league is the best supported in Europe.

Match of the Day should ONLY be shown after a much improved Sportscene.

At the moment we are subsidising English football on the BBC.

  12. The SMSM are not only happy to print negative stories about Celtic, even if it based on mere pub talk, they actively seek out negative stories and will print a full page spread, complete with photos which are (intended to be) interpreted as supporting evidence but are actually from entirely different events.

They have a long, long history of such actions.

But, will you ever see a published retraction, an apology? Never!

Like every Celtic fan, I get irate when I read their latest publications.

However, I do take great comfort from the fact that each of these stories also betrays the writers pain at the on-going sufferings of Sevco.

Similarly, it is very comforting to consider how much it must pain the SFA when Celtic win the league/cups.

When you speak of the EPL, yes the Irish are no different to the rest of Europe thanks to the massive media hype which that League gets worldwide. That being said it is way down the pecking order when it comes to the most popular sports in this country which are Gaelic Football, hurling and rugby. Rugby has really grown in popularity in this country with the advent of professionalism and GAA and rugby are played in packed stadiums with the rugby franchises competing and winning Championships on the European stage.

Despite what you may think I among thousands of others on this island are happy to follow the Celts despite the other attractions.

Snap by the way, although I cannot distinguish between a supporter and a fan.

I would suggest that you ask Mrs Alfie to read back on your posts today alone and then ask her if you attract grief for no reason. In my life so far, it has been the women around me that have always provided me the leveller, when I go off on one!

  17. PS – no contradiction has been established to the Statement from Celtic supporters point that The Rangers we beat in the semi final is a new club.

More objections rolled in and all have been dismissed. In law the accepted position is that they are a new entity. Unless a court states otherwise that is the position having been reviewed by legal teams North and South of the Border.

Old Firm or No Old Firm – opinion.

Same club cos someone else said it – opinion.

New entity – established as fact.

And we gave them the chance to disprove. Not once sentence was written by anyone in the media, in the letters of complaint or online to contradict this.

Legally they are a new entity.
