It’s all about Tannadice, your AIM nomad

808

The stage is set. Dundee United, the club who were last to beat Celtic, stand in the way of their treble ambitions, as the clubs meet on three consecutive occasions next month.  The first game, a Scottish Cup quarter final at Tannadice, is the most crucial.

United lost their best two players last week but they remain they will know that beating Celtic at home will make them favourites for the Scottish Cup.  They will be far less confident at the following week’s League Cup final, Dundee United expectations are always low at Hampden, but pressure will be on the club to win their home game.

A note on the suitability or otherwise of a director of a public company.  In the UK, only the courts can ban you from being a company director, HMRC cannot ban you, any more than they can ban you from driving.  In the UK, public companies are held to a higher standard than private companies.  If anyone presents to you claiming, “HMRC have never banned me from driving/being a company director”, you know your being misled.  The same is true for most jurisdictions.

The AIM market requires companies to have nominated adviser (nomad), which carries out regulator duties on behalf of the market, and ultimately shareholders.  The fact that UK, or other, courts have not prohibited you from being a company director implies nothing about your suitability as a director of a public company.  When it comes to the AIM market, this suitability is judged by your effective regulator, your nomad.  A recent history of financial criminal activity, for example, will give your nomad plenty to consider, as would a recent history of being a director in a liquidated public company.  Far more would decline such a candidate than approve.

“I think there genuinely is now a huge proportion of Scottish people that care more for Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd etc than they do for any Scottish club.”

    ================================

    Well, yes and no!

Think I’d dispute ‘huge’ and ‘care’.

    But its coming.

In a decade we could well be much closer to the situations in Ireland and Wales where folk talk of ‘their’ clubs…Arsenal, United, West Ham (ffs!).

It is also reflected in the local press and the Scottish editions of English papers where now generous space is given to English football when back in the day it would be mere footnote.

However only Scotland has had a fully professional vibrant and viable league structure and can resist in ways Ireland and Wales never could.

If there’s a will that is…not certain the power brokers are up for it.

Quite a few Zomboloids developed a sudden new interest in the EPL about three years ago.

Saw a few comments earlier which seemed to indicate that parts of the Ground were closed for the Inter game. I have just looked on the official site map and there are no tickets left. Also, Celtic said: “General sale tickets have been selling fast and the game is heading towards a full house .” I don`t think they would say “full house” if some parts were closed. Maybe some hospitality tickets still left.

Very narrow and limited thinking. You remind me of Peter Lawwell on this subject matter.

I wrote a fully costed academic paper on the subject in 2005. After we rejected Regan’s English championship proposal.

Back then our stock was high but getting out of our environment was the only way we could break through the glass ceiling.

The only way any form of consolidated cross border solution could work is as an alternative to domestic competition. Not as an alternative to Europa or CL.

A model similar to the American Football divisional model with home and away vs 5 domestic rivals with genuine domestic divisions for each country plus a few other seeded games to level competition. This is then leading to second half of season qualifying top 10 which would be most likely Celtic Ajax PSV Feyenoord Anderlecht Standard Benfica Porto Aberdeen etc

That post season including play off games is for a championship and for CL and Europa placings.

The model worked then but was dismissed by PL. As was Championship option.

Neither would work now. For reasons mentioned by many above.

The opportunity for change has passed us by.

  5. The sections of the LL Upper, which are closed for most home games, started to sell section by section once the rest of the ground was full.

They are now sold out as well.

I assume that I am not the only one who is now enjoying Better Call Saul on Netflix? First episode was enjoyable but the second has already seen it move up a few gears. Terrific stuff. And, just like the best site on the Internet, not a single sweary word ;-)

Would love it if we decided to play matches on Saturdays at 3 o’clock. We might as well, as we are not going to get any meaningful monies from SKY. Maybe we should DEMAND of the BBC that it spends at least a 10th of what it gives to English football on our national sport here in Scotland. I’m sure that would be a considerable increase. (It might improve the quality of the commentary; there again, it might not.)

Indeed I think the longer they are in the grubber the faster is the defection to the EPL. The referendum (not being political here) has also frightened the locals where englishness is their eyes is more ‘ British’ .

  12. Really really disappointed ML is out for the Inter games. I love the big man.

I’m a fan of AM too but his recovery from injury has not been as rapid and he seems to need more game time. He is a great athlete when fully fit though I think not as good a defender as ML. I hope the recent weeks of play have him fully ready for inter.

  13. Personally I think we are finished and will never win another European trophy as long as free market economics are allowed to dominate.

Maybe legislation will save us but I doubt it. UEFA don’t give a monkeys, SFA don’t give a monkeys, Government don’t give a monkeys…

By the time the wealth trickles down from EPL to the rest of the teams, and more foreign owners speculate on smaller teams, we will be lucky to be competing at E League 2 level- soon to be Conference level. I don’t think we can sign E League 1 players now. We can totally forget about E Championship players.

It’s basically no longer sport – just an economic slaughter of the weak. It’s a battle for the world’s broadband, tv, and phone delivery, with side markets of gambling and advertising on offer. Trillions of pounds at stake.

The lobbyists will never allow any evening up- I mean even the Open Golf Championship is now exclusively live on Sky. Rugby next.

I’m never watching the Golf again – they can ram it.

    Give them nothing.

****Last Man Standing 3 prize money****

With 99 entrants, we started the competition with a total prize pot of £495.

Thanks to newco technology, this prizepot was increased by the 40 history restorers, to the value of £200.

There are still 6 slowcos to pay, but assuming that there will be no issues ( and I very much doubt if they will be), the prize money for that Last Man Standing will be a staggering £695.

The competition has also raised a total of £695 plus further donations of £90 for Wee Shay, and this will start to make a dent towards the £5k needed for his second years treatment. This money will be sent to the family this week.

Thank you one and all for your support in this and indeed to Jobo for playing a massive part in running this competition.

Finally, good luck to the remaining 15 going into week 6, which includes Deccyrollercoaster who is kindly funded in the background by CRCticketus in exchange for a divvy payout :-)

Good post – agree with all of it. What te Atlantic League naysayrs tend to forget is that Celtic-Twente in the Atlantic League, would be vastly different to Celtic-Twente today. Because… both clubs would be part of a 60 million (roughly)) person TV market, ie: comparable in population to Spain, ngland, France, Bundesliga etc. s such, both clubs TV money would be MUCH higher (the main aim of the leagu after all), both clubs sponsorship revnue would also be far higher. So…. the teams on display would be of a substantially higher quality tan if these teams met tonight.

As you say, Ambition is ky to our progress over the next few seasons.

  20. What other Football Association would allow a broadcaster to show a foreign country’s domestic matches in their country to the detriment of the game at home?

Can you imagine France allowing that to happen?

In its infancy Sky needed the consent of Scottish football to do what it does. Without our agreement they could not broadcast across the UK.

You cannot get to them via cancellation of contracts – way too late for that.

Walk away from them and tell them to stop broadcasting in Scotland. That puts the cat amongst the pigeons.

They have much more to lose than Scottish football so would look to settle.

Imagine if someone as ruthless as Michael Ashley had that card to play. He wouldn’t hesitate.

What could Sky do to get a compromise?

    A) pay the going rate which will be very expensive

    Or

    B) propose folding the Scottish leagues into a British structure.

They have most to lose by Scotland saying enough is enough. And it would possibly mean the end of the Unfit for purpose SFA.

PS – no contradiction has been established to the Statement from Celtic supporters point that The Rangers we beat in the semi final is a new club.

More objections rolled in and all have been dismissed. In law the accepted position is that they are a new entity. Unless a court states otherwise that is the position having been reviewed by legal teams North and South of the Border.

Old Firm or No Old Firm – opinion.

Same club cos someone else said it – opinion.

New entity – established as fact.

And we gave them the chance to disprove. Not once sentence was written by anyone in the media, in the letters of complaint or online to contradict this.

Legally they are a new entity.

  21. Cool….

    Sympathise entirely.

The sky grab of sport continues.

However not throwing in the towel yet.

EPL will share as little as possible – there is no benefit to them to dissapate their pot.

Echampionship, E1, E2 etc..will still be playing more often than not, in front of one man and a dog. (Indeed evidence exists that EPL is draining fan bases everywhere, even EPL smaller clubs!)

They’ll never get a snif of Euro football or winning trophies.

Celtic will always have some appeal

Some will only think of the money but not all.

Anyway England is neither our only or main market. We can recruit elsewhere.
