It’s all about Tannadice, your AIM nomad

808

The stage is set. Dundee United, the club who were last to beat Celtic, stand in the way of their treble ambitions, as the clubs meet on three consecutive occasions next month.  The first game, a Scottish Cup quarter final at Tannadice, is the most crucial.

United lost their best two players last week but they remain they will know that beating Celtic at home will make them favourites for the Scottish Cup.  They will be far less confident at the following week’s League Cup final, Dundee United expectations are always low at Hampden, but pressure will be on the club to win their home game.

A note on the suitability or otherwise of a director of a public company.  In the UK, only the courts can ban you from being a company director, HMRC cannot ban you, any more than they can ban you from driving.  In the UK, public companies are held to a higher standard than private companies.  If anyone presents to you claiming, “HMRC have never banned me from driving/being a company director”, you know your being misled.  The same is true for most jurisdictions.

The AIM market requires companies to have nominated adviser (nomad), which carries out regulator duties on behalf of the market, and ultimately shareholders.  The fact that UK, or other, courts have not prohibited you from being a company director implies nothing about your suitability as a director of a public company.  When it comes to the AIM market, this suitability is judged by your effective regulator, your nomad.  A recent history of financial criminal activity, for example, will give your nomad plenty to consider, as would a recent history of being a director in a liquidated public company.  Far more would decline such a candidate than approve.

  1. Proudbhoy – totally agree re DCFC. Their player development record is outstanding in recent years. I have spoken to fans of other SPL teams about this, and can’t understand why the Scottish clubs are not all over them, trying to get guys from their squad who are showing potential.

    Sorry, don’t recall that one.

Do remember a couple of 2-3 losses to them in the 70s, one of them at Celtic Park in ’74 or ’75.

Around the time Murderwell had a claret sash on their strips, I believe.

I was amazed at the amount of Fifers whose only team was Liverpool or ManU, when I lived in Kirkcaldy in the 80s. Something I had never experienced in Glasgow.

The young are always attracted to the winners on the big stage like the Barcelonas, Man Utd, Real Madrids etc. Hard to compete with that.

    It has been excellant.

Watching mccourt on one wing and mcginn on another wing was brillant.

    Then james mcclean.

Probably the best of the lot is still there..patrick mceleney . Sadly he hasnt the determination or desire needed since he walked out of sunderland at 16/17.

Recieved a hard time from kevin ball from what iv been told.

Hes just back from a trial at brentford so hopefully that wakes him up abit to step up a level again.

Sutton says Celtic reaching Europa League final bigger than contesting 2003 Uefa final

RONNY DEILA leading Celtic to the Europa League final will be a bigger achievement than Martin O’Neill reaching the 2003 Uefa Cup final.

That’s the verdict of a man who should know – Chris Sutton, who was a key player in the Hoops team which lost in extra time to Jose Mourinho’s Porto 12 years ago.

Sutton has been vocal in his criticism of Deila’s initial time in charge of Celtic – particularly when they crashed out of qualification for the Champions League not once, but twice.

But the former striker has been impressed by how they have fought back to qualify for the last 32 of the Europa League.

If they can now go all the way to the final in Warsaw in May, the forthright Englishman reckons that will surpass the run to Seville.

Sutton said: “I think it would be more impressive. In my day, Celtic certainly had more money to spend.

“There’s no getting away from the fact the budget has been been cut, or gradually been reduced.

“But the club has shown intent by tying down Scott Brown and getting the Kris Commons thing wrapped up.

“And I do believe, when you look at Celtic’s starting eleven, if the players play to their capabilities, they can give anybody in this competition a run for their money.”

The next major test of that theory will be posed by Inter Milan, who come to Glasgow a week tomorrow.

And Sutton agrees with Deila when the manager says he believes they have a chance a grabbing a positive result to take to the San Siro.

He said: “I think this is a 50-50 game, and easily the biggest tie of the round. There are lots of clubs left, but this is an intriguing tie, for many reasons.

“The longer the season has gone on, Celtic seem to be more comfortable. Domestically, they seem to be winning in first gear. I don’t think they have been majorly tested.

“You can’t fault the players for that, and they go into this game full of confidence against an Inter Milan team who are struggling.

“Inter won at the weekend, which was a morale-boosting result for them, but I think that’s only their third win since November and they are about eleventh in the table.

“Their president said this is their best chance of getting into the Champions League next season (by winning the Europa League), so they will be taking this game extremely seriously.”

The news Commons’ hamstring injury – picked up at Dundee on Saturday – has put him in a race against time to make this tie is a huge concern.

Mikael Lustig is already out, possibly missing both games, after twisting an an ankle at Dens Park, while Charlie Mulgrew is another absentee.

Sutton, who was speaking on behalf of BT Sport, and will be part of the BT Sport team covering the game live, admits this is stretching Deila’s squad.

He said: “When I saw Commons go off at the weekend, that worried me. It also worried me when Lustig had to come off limping.

“I prefer Lustig to (Adam) Matthews defensively. Lustig gives you the impression he is far more solid and he makes better decisions.

“Matthews, in an attacking sense … he scored a good goal at Hamilton. But, he will be tested.

“Commons is obviously an enormous blow. But him and Lustig are both big players to lose if they don’t make the tie.

“And if Commons has a grade one hamstring, it’s hard to see him making the first leg because normally they are 10 days to two weeks, so it will be touch and go.

Sometimes in life when we are going through difficult situations we face choices about whether to keep things to ourselves or share our experiences with others.

In my life I usually only share things with my brother or my wife but since I’ve been posting on CQN I have felt that this blog to be a safe place to share things that ordinarily would remain in my family circle.

The support I received over the previous 2 days has totally overwhelmed me.

TBH, I had not intended to post about my experience with the sevconians but for some reason I did.

Thinking about it now I realise why I did. I was stressed out and putting on a brave face for Isobel.

I couldn’t tell my family how I really felt as that would have resulted in them being even more stressed about the situation.

The words and messages of support from posters on here really made me feel humble. I lost my way in life for a few years, I have so much to make amends for, this blog and some of the posters on here have helped me understand that there is another way.

I still have my faults, hopefully now that I recognise them I am able to correct them.

    Thank you.

Interesting to see some great players we had, Kenny, Danny, Dixie, HH, Paul Wilson, Steve Murray; the state of the pitch; stonewall penalty denied by MIB, of course; and to hear Arthur’s unique commentary starring ‘the ball’s out in front’, ‘sennnsaaayshunal’ etc.

That photo reminds me of the time fog caused a game v Hibs to be abandoned with not long to go, and us 1, maybe 2 down.

It had also started raining during the game . . .bottles!

Only time I’ve been on the pitch, to escape them.

I remember where I was that day. I was a boy scout at newbigging camp in an old school near carnwath. We were 2-0 down with about ten minutes left when it was abandoned. We were all listening on the tranny.

  24. Difference between Elbows and Talbot – IMHO

Talbot was reckless and dangerous resulting in a shocking outcome. But, I do not believe he intended to hurt his opponent.

Elbows deliberately targets his opponent, fully intent on inflicting damage.

To be honest, the stamping is a trivial concern. His targetted elbow to the back of LGs head should be punished severely.

When you consider the actions taken when there is a clash of heads, how come no action was taken with Elbows assault?

Then when you consider the SFA ban dished out to Tonev for, “on the balance of probability”, saying something offensive. Completely over the top reaction, especially compared to Elbows actions.

Yes, racism should indeed be stamped out of the game.

Perhaps Elbows can use his other ‘skills’ to assist the SFA with that one.

  25. Eddieinkirkmichael.

God bless you and your family mate.
