It’s only a flesh wound. King goes Full Python

1151

Celtic hammered Newco 5-1 home and away last season, knocked them out both cups, won one other game and conceded a late equaliser, allowing Newco their only moment of (cough) glory last season.

We finished 39 points ahead of Newco (who were 33 points from bottom). As we set off for the summer, glowing after the first invincible treble in history, chairman of Newco, that complete muppet Dave King, told the assembled media, “In footballing terms I don’t think Celtic are as far ahead as they could have been – certainly with our new signings.”

The two 5-1 defeats now look like Python’s Black Knight losing his legs one at a time, but protesting they were little more than flesh wounds. Except Python was a parody, this guy is being serious!

So, Brendan, Peter, Dermot, get the finger out. These people don’t believe 5-1 is a substantial enough winning margin. When we pitch up at Ibrox on the weekend of 23/24 September, ‘go Medieval on their ass’ to borrow from Quentin.

Take five minutes to update yourself on The Road to Lisbon cyclists, who traveled from Celtic Park to Estadio Nacional last month.

This has been a phenomenal and inspiring effort by a group of Celtic fans – and so many donors.  What a great thing to be a part of.

Possibly the best post i’ve ever read on CQN. HH

  2. WITS

This is a really random story but it’s 100% true.

Passed on one of your tips last year to the father in law.

I told him you were on a good run so he told everybody in the local it was from a top source.

Half the pub bet on it ,only thing was the bold yin was well oiled shall we say and told them all the wrong horse which duly stotted in at 14/1 ( not joking BTW ) .

His best mate had £20 on it . He was lauded all day and was pestered for weeks afterwards for more tips.

The funniest part was he was the only one in the pub to bet your actual tip which came nowhere :-))))

Ps He hasn’t told anybody what really happened that day with the ‘ tip ‘ . I’m sorely tempted to drop the real story when I’m back in August just to see the ribbing he gets for it

    Are you being deliberately obtuse?

The manager said what was happening with the transfers…

It was posted by me and by BSR in reply to your earlier moan about the squad..

Is asking for it to be strengthened moaning about squad.

If there is further business to be done, why not sooner than later? Could it possibly be, that despite being in relatively good health money wise, we are waiting to see who goes out before spending.

  4. Quonno @ 2.43

I can understand why you would think why we would wait until some leave- I think it is fair to say it has happened before – but I think we are probably a bit at the mercy of events now. I really doubt if a lot of the players Brendan will be looking at will come until we have guaranteed European Football until,Christmas. It would be nice if we could land the players we want but I don’t think they’ll come if they are only going to be playing Scottish teams.

( Me saying this will hopefully mean we land two big names on Monday!)

  5. What the manager said re. signings

Brendan Rodgers has said he only wants to add one more player to his Celtic squad before Champions League qualifying is over.

Jonny Hayes has been the only new arrival since the transfer window opened and Rodgers is targeting another player to join the former Aberdeen winger soon.

However, the manager will wait until the end of the window before making any more signings, saying that a better class of player is available as the deadline draws near.

“Jonny was one and there is another I would hope we can get in,” Rodgers told Celtic TV.

“Then I just want to get through the qualifiers with the players who have got us through, knowing they are a year better on.

“I also want to just wait and see because I know the market in England and the rest of Europe well.

“I know how it works. It’s later on in the window before players of real quality become available. I want to bring the best possible players into here.”

  6. QUONNO

If Brendan Rodger’s explanation of what’s happening is not enough for you, then I am at a loss to what else anybody can say.

Ok guess we are not signing Januzaj then. 10 m plus 70kmpwr week is what we are up against! Off to Sociedaddy

    ——-

Can’t say I’m too disappointed at that. He got hyped up big time after his first few games. That’s nearly four years ago and I haven’t seen any sign of him having done anything since.

  8. Moussa Dembele Goal of The Season, CELTIC 2017

    Great team goal.

Special mention for Mik the tim starting in his right back position and ending up inside left after playing three 1-2s in the build-up culminating in a rabona to Calumn or ( ribena if your Charlie Nic ) .

  10. Clogher Celt a great and very informative post. Just one point though I know a number of people who have studied Irish history in depth who suggest that Laudabiliter was a false document, fabricated by the English to strengthen their spurious claim of lordship over Ireland. The style and certain factors in it show that it is not truly an authentic papal document. Only today, I was speaking to someone about the address of a person who has worked for many years in the Vatican archives with the intention of asking him about the authenticity of the said document.

    LAUDABILITER

@ 10 years ago BBC Radio 4 broadcast a programme re that document

A variety of “experts “queued up to state that it was an early example of a sexed up dodgy dossier . .

  12. Over the years Celtic FC and its officers have been derided right across all sections of the media , and with monotonous regularity by a good number of ‘kid-on’ supporters on here.

Derided for all manner of things – from the “biscuit-tin” to signing Lubo, from the make-up of the board to “heated driveways’ – from “thugs and thieves” to a hearse outside Celtic Park.

Many many things have been written and broadcast on the ongoing Ibrox farce – the latest risible offering being the lauding of the “new’ merchandising deal. Yes there has been some decent and balanced articles written on occasion, and criticism levelled – however there has never been a scintilla of derision from any mainstream broadcaster or media outlet – derision is the least we should have expected on literally scores of occasions

That tells ypu all you need to know about who pulls the strings in this little bigoted country of ours – God help us if there ever was an independent Scotland with no links to the rest of the UK – ‘they’ wouldn’t have to even disguise ‘it’ then.

Myself and BMCUWP can confirm all of Clogher Celt’s history of his area having spent two days in his lovely village with him on our 2016 Hoot during which he took us round all or at least most of the places he mentioned. Wonderful and educational.

I see some some posters recalling ‘gigs’ gone by… I am too old for ‘gigs’.. unheard of in my day..BUT…I was at Acker Bilks first appearance in Scotland (Pavilion,Ayr) and ‘went to the dancing’ at Burntisland? Palais in 1957 to Ted Heath and his orchestra ft Denis Lotis and Lita Rosa(sps)….

    Re Acker Bilk

I always thought he was a load of trad rubbish a la Kenny Ball but my late father said that despite the pop hits and the rest of his schtick he was a really good serious jazzer who could hold his own in serious company a million miles from his appearances on programmes like Pebble Mill at One, Seaside Special. Any idea if this is true or whether , as he occasionally did, my dad got this one wrong?

  17. Jimbo67

As one who grew up enjoying jazz and with the clarinet as my favourite instrument, I would say that Acker Bilk was an average clarinet player who caught the popular imagination.

I have just listened to a Celtic State of mind- CQN Podcast.

What a wonderful, interesting and informative hour I had.

JP and Kevin’s chat was insightful and intelligent. The definition of an intelligent person is one who echos one’s own thoughts and opinions!

However, the star of the show was the amazing Lisa Hague.

What a well rounded and grounded lady she is.

When she travelled with Kris from Nottingham to Glasgow, little did she realise that she was going on a journey far greater that the 287 miles between the cities.

I think there were times during the interview when Paul sounded quite emotional….and I don’t blame him.

    Well done to all involved.

So far 2 controversial penalty decisions denied and one goal chalked off via video refereeing. Definitely a good development for football

  22. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

Now then, now then…. As a jazz fan of the times, I can attest to Jimbo’s Dad’s recollection of Acker’s clarinet playing whist in ‘jazz-mode’ as opposed to ‘Pop Music’ as were indeed Humphrey Lyttleton,Chris Barber ft Ottilie Paterson,Kenny Ball et alia! The ‘filthy lucre’ however overcame their roots !

Ian Menzies and the Clyde Valley Stompers weren’t too bad either and at least they came from Scotland ! Memories…..

Speaking of memories is HT an Elton John ..I’m still standing .. or a Sam Smith ….Lay me down…?

A vote for my dad! (He also spotted that a chap called Dalglish had some potential!). Seriously I am quite a big jazz fan myself but always had a prejudice against Brit Jazzers – based mainly on seeing Kenny Ball on the Morecambe and Wise Show and not liking Cleo Laine admittedly.
