It’s over, Mr Johnston, you let your club die

Former chairman of Oldco Rangers, now director of Newco, Alastair Johnston, took aim in the media at Celtic supporters yesterday, saying “I always wondered about the mentality of certain Celtic supporters, not by any means most of them, who basically said our club died in February, 2012.”

Why do they do this to themselves?  If it is an attempt to convince people that liquidation did not happen, it will fail.  All that will be achieved is the re-telling of the facts.  Rangers entered administration on 14 February 2012.  It failed to come out of administration and a liquidator was appointed to dispose of the remaining assets.

Secvo Scotland Ltd bought a “bundle of assets”, including the stadium.  The administrators, Duff and Phelps, changed Rangers name to RFC 2012 Ltd and gave permission to Sevco Scotland to use the word “Rangers” in their name.  Without this permission, Newco would have gone through a similar naming process as Clydebank – Airdrie United – Airdrieonians, who were only permitted to use the word “Airdrieonians” 11 years after the liquidation of oldco Airdrieonians.

If I’m honest, if we were in those circumstances, I would tell myself every day that the Celtic I grew up with was the same as Newco Celtic.  I would have no incentive to do otherwise, so Johnston and anyone else who cares, can think what they want about Newco.

He is welcome to his thoughts, if it helps him through the trauma of what he did as chairman of Oldco during the EBT years, and the club’s failure to prepare over many years for HMRC’s legal challenge. Johnston’s board made no provision to retain enough money to trade through HMRC’s challenge, despite that legal challenge being underway years before it got to the crunch.

What he tells himself does not change the facts.  Oldco is in liquidation.  All player contracts ceased.  Assets were sold off, a deal to use the name had to be agreed.  Sevco Scotland became an associate member of the SFA while Oldco was still a member.  Oldco voted on whether to admit Sevco Scotland to the SPL.  Sevco changes its name and were granted entry to the SFL Third Division.

Johnston played a role in the demise of Rangers.  He was chairman and had a responsibility to direct the club away from dangers.  He failed and now presents an alternative reality, which is easier on the mind.

He also said, “it will be 120 years or so before you can tie with us.”  For each of those 120 years, Celtic fans and others will say, “But Rangers died in 2012”.  Just as Rangers fans are content to believe their club continues, belligerent denial is not going to change how others regard liquidation.  It’s over, Mr Johnston, you let your club die.

There was other guff about “thriving” not “surviving”.  They think they are going to win the league and that their circa £11m annual deficit is an indication of thriving.  Again, I disagree.

    I beleive you can draw parallels with what is happening in u.s with trump and Fox news and over here with the Scottish media and sevco.

     

     

    Trump brazenly lies because he knows his supporters only watch Fox news and he will not be challenged by Fox news. He can make the most outrageous lies and claims and his supporters believe it all.

     

     

    Johnston can make also lie and make outrageous statements because he knows no one in this country will challenge him.

     

     

    After rangers were liquidated Walter smith wished the new club every success. A fortnight later he was claiming that rangers had been demoted. He knew he wouldn’t be challenged.

     

     

    I would urge every celtic supporter to turn their backs on the Scottish media. Tv, radio and the newspaper industry. They all have an anti celtic agenda. I take my news from the BBC in London, channel 4 and CNN.

    When I first joined this Blog more than 10 years ago, we all more or less agreed “win the midfield, win the game”. Why doesn’t the manager see that?

     

     

    Lennon did see the same as us he thought he would be able to stretch their backline and force their midfield back by having 3 attacking mids on the park, hence he would win the midfield. The 3 attacking mids and striker played to instruction and so kept the team shape despite being able to see the midfield was outnumbered. They were isolated for 70 minutes.

     

     

    lennon refused to change the system because he believed it would deliver when the game settled. Sevco’s game plan was to keep to game from settling down. We were not out muscled we were outnumbered. Better managers than lennon have got it wrong so it’s not about being overly critical. Lennon may not have said he got it wrong but I bet the next time we play sevco our approach will be different.

    Trump supporters don’t watch cnn, abc and cbs so they are not receiving a balanced view of events. They take their truth from fox. My sister in California watched nothing but fox. Fox, with their lies and distortions have corrupted u.s society.

     

    Rangers in the past and sevco today have contaminated and corrupted Scottish society never mind scottish football. No one in the media in this country will dare oppose them. The media is cowed. That is why they can lie without fear of contradiction.

    My only concern with your contention was the apparent suggestion that Fox , just one of many channels in the USA , was comparable to the domination of the pro hun media in Scotland.

     

     

    The majority of the other channels in USA are anti Trump . In some cases blatantly so .

    Celtic won’t beat the rangers until we get some steel into the team . I would agree we have the more skilful players , but they have the tougher players , they have the type to nullify celtic type players . Celtic can’t beat teams like them , with men hiding , men not equipped for a battle . Men who haven’t the stomach to roll up the sleeves and get right into them . On celtic news now there is a picture of two legends on the steps of celtic park . They would not have beat us had those two been on the field , that’s the type we used to have in our team , not thinner than a racing snake midgets we have now , we have way more than our share of wee guys in the team . We have some average players getting a game week in week out , yes good enough for most of the dross we play . But they are setting us a challenge no mistake about that , the scouser has sussed us out . We have this window to get some areas in the team improved . We have this window for our suits to show how important the nine is for the club . Sad to say I’m not to confident the window will be to our satisfaction . Back to lurking
