Jockeying for FTT already done

735

Following RangersTaxCase’s information that Rangers-HMRC First Tier Tribunal report was in the hands of both parties’ solicitors on Friday, I subsequently heard the report runs to in excess of 300 pages.  It will be published by the court authorities in due course but I don’t expect anything this week.  Any attempt to spin or release excerpts from the report could be considered contempt so it is likely that we will hear nothing formally until then.

Once the report goes live you can expect an already-prepared summary with plenty of focus on what the FTT denied HMRC.  HMRC will not achieve a clean sweep, some matters were dealt with correctly, but there will be no surprises on these pages for the thrust of the findings.

I’m looking forward to an entertaining and final dose of bombast from one of the parties, hopefully in keeping with some of the all-time favourites from March 2000, “Rangers are moving on to another level from the rest of Scottish football”, “the Glasgow giants are setting an agenda that no other Scottish club can match”.

That famous article in The Herald asserts “The Ibrox chairman [Sir David Murray] has spent several months and many sleepless nights piecing together the plans which will eliminate Rangers”.

It does, of course, insert the word “debt” into the end of that sentence but sometimes fewer words paint a more accurate picture.  While we’re on a related subject, well done to Sports Direct FC for reaching the summit of the Third Division on goal difference.  That manager’s definitely worth keeping. Ashley’s money is being wisely spent.

  3. Press conference in Barcelona.

Peter Lawwell: “I’m sorry, Barcelona, but the phrase ‘More than a club’ belongs to us. A former chairman of Celtic, Sir Robert Kelly, coined the phrase long before it came to be associated with Barcelona.”

He said the last thing he wanted was to cause controversy because “we’ve had a fantastic relationship with Barcelona for years”.

  5. If the fans are the lifeblood of a club then aspiration is the plasma. Being a football fan is all about aspiration, hoping your team becomes better, even the best. It is what keeps every fan of every club around the world coming back.

Of course aspiration isn’t exclusively for the fan, a successful club needs everyone to aspire to be better. That is why the call up to the England squad for Fraser Forster could end up being one of the most pivotal moments to happen to Neil Lennon’s young squad.

We all know Neil has managed to assemble a team of highly skilled young players, players bursting with potential. These young men are ambitious. They will have long wondered if moving to a relative backwater in Scotland was the correct thing to do. Is this the right career choice? Am I playing at a high enough level? Will scouts look up here? Fraser’s call up will have answered that question emphatically. We now have a highly talented, ambitious group of young men who know performing at our club WILL get them noticed at the highest level. This will free them mentally. They know their achievements here will be rated and recognised. They can now play for something they want, to get to the very top as that gate has now been opened. No longer is Celtic seen as a minor stepping stone, with the expected route being a mid table club in a bigger league, your achievements can get you straight to the top table. This will take the shackles off, particularly on a night like tomorrow.

Most football clubs use fan’s aspirations to try and better their position, using fan aspiration like a brickie would use mortar. Gathering the pieces and binding them together trying to build a stronger legacy.

There are a few exceptions to this, our club being one.

Aspiration is the bricks. Aspiration is also the mortar. Our club is built out of aspirations, by immigrant aspirers, for future aspirers. Built on the foundations of men and women who upended their lives on the small chance of providing a better future for their offspring. That leaves a mark that cannot be hidden.

There are football clubs, then there is Celtic. Fairytales follow us. We are inspiration and aspiration. Time and again it has been proven that nothing is impossible for 11 young men who walk out wearing one of world football’s most famous jersey’s…..and that is why it is famous, people know there is going to be a show.

11 young men will be sitting in the bowels of the Camp Nou tomorrow night listening to the words of their manager. 11 ambitious, skilled young men listening whilst a seasoned campaigner tries to ring the last ounce of belief from the depths of their psyche. There is nothing to fear, they should in fact be excited because they can seize their own future’s right there, on that famous piece of green turf in Catalonia.

Every team has a talisman, as ours do. Ours is the circular motif stitched onto the left breast of each of those 11 men’s jersey’s. It has served 2 generations before and will continue to do so whilst we all aspire.

Touch the talisman, trust in your skill and then watch as it weaves the fairytale.

  6. Unlike our media, El Mundo Deportivo seems to have checked this out.

It says Sir Bob Kelly coined the phrase in the wake of Lisbon, saying: “Celtic is more than a club for a lot of people. It’s a way of life.”

On its own website, Barcelona makes it clear that its first reference to ‘Mes que un club’ was in January 1968. Club president Narcís de Carreras used the phrase in a speech he made on taking up the role.

I make that 1-0 to Celtic.

  7. “Can this Celtic team defeat Barcelona?” Miku: “Absolutely!”

Miku: “If we don’t win in the SPL it is terrible so we will play this game with the same mentality.”

    MON THE SONS OF DAN!

  8. Peter Lawwell went on to say he’s delighted Celtic are back in Barcelona to play at the Nou Camp, and that he’s also looking forward to receiving Barcelona back at Celtic Park on November 7. He explained that his wife is very much looking forward to seeing Lionel Messi and that his three children are also big Messi fans.

He made the point that Celtic don’t just hold the patent for the ‘More than a club’ phrase, but that the Celtic support is also a model for the rest of football, having won recognition from UEFA [FIFA too, Peter] for fair play.

He also said the atmosphere at Celtic Park is unique and said that for people such as Xavi to have made public statements to that effect is a source of great pride for Celtic.

He went on to mention the connections with Marc Crosas and Henrik Larsson, and said that Henrik had been to visit the team in the hotel in Helsingborg in the qualifiers and would have divided loyalties tomorrow night.

He was asked for a score-prediction and answered: “I never make them, and I never place bets. I’ll be happy for a good performance, here and at Celtic Park.”

  9. Celtic ar top-priced at 45/1 with BETVICTOR.

There is 40/1 also available at Betfair.

The last time these kind of prices were available was when some unknown youngster called David took on the previously undefeated Philistine champion.

I can’t remember offhand how that turned out.

  10. Henrik better not have divided loyalties

With the impending FTT judgement due to attention will then swing to the SFA/SPL to take action

Anyone, with even the slightest interest in Scottish fitba will know that the SFA/SPL bent over to allow the sevco to drop the debt and start again untroubled the following day, in the same league. The combined ranks of the SFA/SPL /MSM got a severe kick in the haw maws as fan power decided if the huns can ditch the debt, then they ditch their club and history as well. But we all know there is no shaming these people, most of the should be out of a job already for their duplicitous actions. The fact that they aren’t already out the door, will be making lots of folk nervous about voting SNP in case the country ends up with another wee masonic gang of incompetents at the top level whose actions go unquestioned in the MSM.

Now the problem the aforementioned leaders have jointly created for themselves is a world where the sevconians actually, genuinely, do believe that The SPL booted them out and they feel victimised. (even the part time and amateur players from the irn bru 3rd division are trying too hard against them!) “No more” the flock of stupids cry. “We have been punished enough” . Well as far as I can see sevco got a nice new stadium, complete with a car park and a training ground for under 5 million quid. A bargain, all that infrastructure for

Less than Murray took out of EBTs for himself

Less than half of Torre Andre Flo

Less than Barry Fergusons EBT payments

I guess a lot of teams would be delighted to get their hands on a ready built infra-structure for such a giveaway price. The only punishment that sevco have got is that they have to pay back fitba debt. Big deal.

Now from our side we know that the MSM will once again promote sevco agenda, why wouldn’t they? They have nothing if they don’t have sevco. They have already been abandoned by fans of all other clubs.

But once again it is time to get our agenda on the table to counter them. When do we start to turn up the heat against the MSM and the fitba authorities. One thing is for sure, it would be a fair assumption that the SFA/SPL have already have talks with Sevco to determine what they can “get away with” It’s up to us again to see that every game where a player is improperly registered results in the appropriate points deductions, despite the sevco and MSM protests.

You see, that’s the thing aboot zombies- they think everyone is as glaikit as them

Anyway onto Barca, and all things positive. There can’t be a GOOD time to play against Barca, but perhaps sometimes will be easier than others. Lets hope that Tuesday is one of those days. Neilly Bhoy will be wondering whether to put ten men behind the ball or to risk pushing forward occasionally. We’ve done it before and we’ll do it again…..

    C’mon you bhoys in Green!

  20. Victor Wanyama may be well on his way to becoming the next Clarence Seedorf or the former Real Madrid great midfielder Claude Makelele but he will have to watch his tackling on Tuesday night. Celtic has quite a good record at the Camp Nou but we don’t want to finish the match with ten men – a disaster against a team like Barca. We have plenty of height in the team now and the set-piece will be our main weapon against the small Barca players particularly if Victor can get one of his lethal bullet headers into the Barca net.

How times have changed for Georgios, he is now regarded as our main threat by Barca and I have no doubt but he will pose problems for them. Surprised to hear Ambrose has just only celebrated his 24th birthday another great prospect who has fitted comfortably into the team and quite an acrobat into the bargain. Lustig, Wilson, Ambrose, Izzy, Samaras, Browne, Wanyama, Ledley, Mulgrew, Hooper, to get a result on Tuesday night.

Kayal, Forrest, Watt, Miku, Lassaud, Matthews and our Polish keeper on the bench.

    http://www.localnewsglasgow.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/GCC0151.jpg

I don’t know if whoever created it realises just how significant the service number is.

The 61 bus service still covers the Maryhill to Celtic park route to this day. That particular bus would have operated out of the old Maryhill Bus Depot which was located at the far end of Maryhill Road and accessed by two small side-streets. The depot is now long-gone and a housing estate occupies the site. The first street, Lennox Street, has been closed. The second street remains open and has been extended to run through the estate. It’s name? Always has been, always will be…

I don’t think there will ever be a call for a Sevco Street.
