Juxtaposition of Keane with wannabes elsewhere

Worst Rangers [sic]team in history?

Worst Rangers [sic]chief executive in history?
Check.

Worst Rangers [sic]fans in history?
Oh, please.  They have played their part to perfection.

Worst Rangers [sic]manager in history?
Who, Ally the Great Enabler?  No way.

Charles Green would not have any authority at Ibrox if Ally McCoist didn’t act as his enabler last year.  While every Celtic fan with a keyboard was typing “Can they really be so stupid again?” Ally was cutting a deal for almost 5% of the share capital of the company [sic].  None of this would be possible without Ally.  If you see him, buy him a pie.

The juxtaposition was pointed out to me:

19 years after John Keane stepped forward with an amount of money very precious to him..

With no guarantee it would solve our problems…

Or that he would see a penny of it again (for the record, he hasn’t, and he is unlikely to)…

A very different history played out across the city.

Today’s Herald told us the group trying to overthrow the Sevco board contains Jim McColl and that, “McColl is one of Scotland’s richest people, but he won’t spend his own money”.

The world is full of rich men who will not spend their own money.  Long may they squabble over the Ibrox debris.

Our honorary chairman, John Keane, waved to the Celtic Park crowd before letting the league flag fly high, a direct consequence of putting his money where his mouth was.

Was at that one as well.

Point about Glasgow Cup tie was that Celtic fielded a pretty weakened team and as a centre half, Connolly gave a ninety minute master class.

My own highlight of 69 final was Stevie Chalmers’ goal.

  3. Dynamo Kiev away 68: think we won either 1-0 or 2-1 Buzz bomb scored & Bobby Murdoch’s was sent off early on.

One of these days you are going to say something nice about Celtic, and I’m going to need a sedative ……. It’s a miracle we managed to overcome the corruption through the years, and actually flourish ……. and John Keane is an absolute Saint of a man, an absolute Celtic Legend, who will never be forgotten in the ‘pages’ of Celtic History…..

God bless the Mhan, and God give you at least a small measure of positivity when you are commenting about one of the greatest ‘fans’ EVER to support our beloved Club…

George Connelly was a beautiful player, his downfall as unexpected as it was sad. I think he made his debut in a 2-0 win at Ibrox- his pass releasing Jinky to set up Wispy for the first goal. Superb passer, fantastic reader of the game and he could get goals from midfield. He was a brilliant midfielder but by the end of 70-1 he had moved back to sweep up beside Big Billy- where he was majestic.

And his goal in the Celtic end in the 69 Cup Final is my favourite goal v them ( sorry Henrik). The unrestrained joy of the ballbhoy as the ball hits the net unforgettable

This is the hard times, we are building up the quality of the squad, and we are re-establishing ourselves as a financial force again. Rangers have winner written all over them but we are in the build up period. The money men know this and want to be in at the start of something big. Think of it this way; if Rangers were a lost cause the money men would be running away from it, but they are fighting tooth and nail to be part of it, every dirty and underhand trick appears to be being used to get on that board because this club equals money, winners, power and prestige for those in the board when Rangers come back with a vengeance. They know that is only a matter of time.

So, we lost. Our sticking plaster third division team were no match for Forfar. None of our recent signings were playing and the team out today will not be the Rangers of this year. We have to wait until September before the real first team shows up, then we can see how teams like Forfar stack up against us. Roll on September.

Today was a bad day but better is to come, they train with us, they wear our shirt, they just wait until September so the can play for us and show what the real Rangers first team can do in the full blood and thunder of competitive football. We have things to look forward to on the field; lets go and enjoy it when it comes right.

The lean Green talking machine is back, so hang on to your hat time. We will see the board once again fighting like cats in a sack and it will be unbecoming to our club but that is unfortunately where we are at the moment. I think the reasons for this are because they all want to position themselves in positions of power for when the club truly takes off they can then bask in reflected glory. Do not be mistaken Rangers will spark and get back to where they were in Scotland and in Europe and they know the tipping point will come with in the next 18 months. I believe that we may have almost perpetual boardroom fighting until the biggest crocodiles have killed off their competition.

We have always been here; we are the power that drives Rangers forward, the money that goes from your pocket into Rangers will continue to push Rangers forward. We will have our money men who will take from the club but the revenues that will come in will propel the club upwards. We the fans are the true unstoppable force behind Rangers and next month we will see our true first team for the first time this season. Roll on Law and Daly creating havoc in the oppositions defence

Seem to remember we played Dynamo Kiev in September ’67 in the first round of the European Cup, as holders Celtic should have had a bye, but correct me if I’m wrong some other team pulled out for whatever reason so Celtic had to play. Lost 1-0 at CP and drew

1-1 in Russia. Big well organised team as I remember.

I was at that game and there was a sense of shock at going out 1st round after the euphoria of Lisbon. Don’t know if it was overconfidence or what..

  18. Tricoloured ribbon

That was 67-8 . We beat Clyde 8-0 (7 up by h-t) whilst Rangers could only draw 3-3 with Morton and thereby give us the lead in the league race with 2 games to go. A very happy breakfast in my hoose I recall

    just reading the milan stories

brings back great memories apart from the score

my mate and i were on a plane full of steel erectors who

were building the erskine bridge at the time

*I went over with the OK CSC 35 quid for bus tae Abbotsinch Airport (as it was called at the time), flight, connection in Milan and ticket.

This was before Scots travelled at lot tae Europe, since I had emigrated and returned hame I was the only one on the plane with a passport, the rest had visas.

Carry outs were opened on taking off, the flight attendant eventually got tae ore seat, there were 3 of us, I asked for 18 vans of beer, when she questioned that I replied 6 each as we’ll probably no see you again.

One punter wanted tae know if we could have his windae open tae hang his scarf out while another came roon with a hat for the driver (pilot)

Apart fae the result it was a great day oot.

Although Milan got the final Rome was also in the bidding for it, personally I was hoping for Rome as the ould song we sang was “the famous Glasgow Celtic took a holiday tae Rome tae see Pope (fill in the blank here) and what did he say….Hail Hail etc),

Unfortunately Milan was the host city and it was a shambles, nae programmes, poor set up etc, I believe it was years before they got another final in any European competition.
