Keane asks not to be considered

1184

Reports out of Ireland that Roy Keane is no longer in the running for the Celtic job are correct.  The former Sunderland and Ipswich boss asked not to be considered as Celtic have tightened their shortlist over the past few days.

The overwhelming majority of opinion on the blog and elsewhere is that Celtic would be taking an enormous risk with Roy Keane, feedback which I know has reached the club.  These decision are all risky, and there are no guarantees we will be able to do better than Roy, but I’d be prepared to take that risk.

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

I’m glad that JPT appears to have indicated to you, judging by your post, that the meetings are to continue.

He was going to scrap them because he felt that it had become more hassle than it was worth.

I gave him my opinion, which was, that should be the last thing on his mind but that the selection criteria for those who were invited and the cloak of secrecy surrounding the event had to be addressed if the meetings are to have any credibility in the eyes of many supporters.

    =====================

I’m disappointed it is not happening and had already spoken to John Paul after the last forum (before anybody raised the point) about who attends and was going to get someone from CQN along at the next one other than myself just to spread the involvement.

I was not surprised at the logistic difficulties at this time given the number of Celtic business managers from the different parts of the club who were there last time (holidays etc) but there was a good mix on the floor of Celtic supporters from official groups to folk like Paul from the blogger community.

Perhaps the need is for a kind of “Virtual Forum” that identifies issues and then distils them into action points (which is what I liked about the SF) otherwise its all shovelling green steam.

However although there are shortcomings it is a step in the right direction.

For those on here who enjoy the lighter side of football I encourage you to catch up with Danny Baker’s ‘World Cup Brush Up’ first shown on BBC4 last night. Will probably get repeated, if not hopefully will be available on BBCi. Brilliant!

Hooper and Wilson told Neil Lennon that they were sorry that they left Celticand wished they were back.

NL told them that any club, other than Celtic, was a step down, due to the size of theclub, etc.

He said that he found that out when he went to Forest, after Celtic.

The concept of building dialogue between the support and the club is a good one and in my opinion, much needed.

The problems appeared to have arisen because of a lack of trust and confidence in the manner in which the club set about constructing their meetings, particularly in the shadow of the Open Meetings chaired by the Celtic Trust.

I’ve made my feelings clear to JP that if they are to be worthwhile and credible then there needs to be a greater degree of clarity, a re-evaluation of the criteria for those invited and an opportunity for questions to be asked without those hosting the meeting being afforded the chance to prepare responses prior to the event.

Let’s hope this is taken on board and genuine, meaningful dialogue can take place.

And by the time 4 years has passed and you are utterly disillusioned and pissed off – we will get in another mug and keep the show going.

So what do ya say keano old boy? Are you game?

    Absolutely marvellous post from TICTAEWIN.

    Sums it up perfectly,IMO.

I think the board have really screwed up here. They got a manager-and success-on the cheap, and now they don’t have a Plan B.

FWIW,there should never have been a Plan B.

It should have been Plan A.

    Build on success.

  24. Anyone else think that (as usual) there is a media driven attempt to derail this process of appointing our new manager, I don’t think there is a particular rush as any of the main parties will be on holiday, but also John Kennedy or Stevie Frial could coach for the pre season and even the first round of Champions League qualifier if needed. There is still 6 weeks before first game and 3 weeks before players report back for pre season which is already arranged. Chillax everyone, it will be fine
