Keane asks not to be considered

1184

Reports out of Ireland that Roy Keane is no longer in the running for the Celtic job are correct.  The former Sunderland and Ipswich boss asked not to be considered as Celtic have tightened their shortlist over the past few days.

The overwhelming majority of opinion on the blog and elsewhere is that Celtic would be taking an enormous risk with Roy Keane, feedback which I know has reached the club.  These decision are all risky, and there are no guarantees we will be able to do better than Roy, but I’d be prepared to take that risk.

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

    Today’s Machiavellian theory.

Roy Keane isn’t a genuine contender.

He and Martin O’Neil are just helping out their old pal, The Great Desmondo, to exert pressure on the real candidate.

Yup, Roy seems exactly the kind of guy to go along with a highly public waste of time. It’s him all over – frivolous, compliant and playful……..

Changing markets make for interesting times.

How is the Celtic Board Index shaping?

Lawwell on the rise, Desmond sliding but still with his hand on the gavel.

O’Brien, no change but his Irish breakfast bagels are so tasty that his place is secure.

Riley and Wilson, under the table playing cards. Livingston trying to bring in another line.

It’s not a waste of time, frivolous or playful. You’re missing the point. It’s conniving, deceitful and purposeful as part of a strategy being to help Celtic secure their intended target. Keane has had to do the square root of nowt other than stay stum.

    And no legs were broken.

  5. The No.13 Shorts on

The train-crash that is the Celtic Manager selection process shouts loudly to me that Neil Lennon leaving was a bolt from the blue for the PLC. The cack-handed handling of the situation since, starring a normally Teflon PR’d DD, reeks of panic-stations.

Subsequent actions have undoubtedly caused damage to our reputation as a prestigious name in football; re-ignited questions regarding Keane’s commitment to ROI from ROI fans and and may leave the eventual ‘chosen’ candidate with a inferiority complex from the word Go.

No smoke-screen in my opinion, just heavy braking on the runaway train, minus a driver, entering the platform at destination Paradise Central at excessive speed.

t was supposed to be Roy, but Roy said no.

The articles here on CQN are taking on a Pravdaesque flavour.

Is it the case in this one that the inference is that the listening board have taken on the concerns of those on here and decided that Roy Keane was a gamble too far?

As opposed to the perceived wisdom that Roy looked in the biscuit tin and said no thanks?

    H.H.

You are far too conspiratorial than is healthy.

My source was not working on behalf of DD to help him make some Machiavellian deed succeed.

    It’s as simple as this.

Neil Lennon was no longer happy to work within our business strategy ( on the wages he was offered) and a new man will be found who will.

DD was way off track thinking that Roy Keane ever would.IMHO.

  16. Why can’t folk believe what CELTIC are saying? PL was asked if Roy Keane was a candidate. He said he was, along with between 4 and 9 others. RK has withdrawn his candidacy. No more and no less. Everything else is pure speculation.

The MSM are hurting because Celtic refuse to allow them into the loop. They would do everything to sabotage any appointment. I expect we will make an excellent choice. The show will go on and the Glasgow Celtic will be there.

  17. I am not convinced that Neil lennon leaving came as a surprise to the board.

Would you leave Celtic with little or no notice, making it difficult to prepare for next season?

I wouldn’t, why would you think Neil Lennon would?

    To shaft the board?

Don’t see it I’m afraid, he went through too much to leave in that manner.

My opinion is that Neil has wanted to leave for some time now but wanted to leave on his own terms. Notice the lack for MSM headlines stating the bigots won and he was chased out of Glasgow. He left when he wanted to and nobody is in any doubt of that.

If my opinion is correct then I see no reason why the board would not have been aware of the situation.

    Just my view on things.

1 good thing about this being a drawn out process is that we will not be speculating/fretting as much over who we are gonna be signing.

Substitute this for a debate about whether we should/could sign Finbogasson?!

For what its worth…..im throwing my hypothetical cash on the return of the King now.

    Why?

He is being quite defensive when asked questions about it……tooooo defensive…..mmmm?

  19. THE FAI have confirmed that Roy Keane has decided against becoming Celtic’s new manager.

The 42-year-old had held talks with the Glasgow-based club in recent days, as speculation mounted that he would not be joining Ireland on their US summer tour this Wednesday.

Earlier today reports suggested that Keane no longer wanted to be considered for the vacant job at Celtic Park.

The FAI responded this afternoon with the following tweet:

Roy Keane has confirmed that he will travel to the US after deciding not to pursue talks with @celticfc any further. #COYBIG

  20. Sounds like we are getting close to a decision. Although Roy Keane would not have been my first choice, he does come with most of the experience we are looking for. CL player under the second best manager of all time, EPL managerial experience, played for and supports the club. I think he would have done a great job. However, we move on.

Steve Clark would be underwhelming for me. What has he ever done as a manager that suggests he would help us do well in Europe? Although Malky doesn’t have European experience, I was really impressed with the way Cardiff played when he was there. He is still my preference.
