Keep our name out of it, Salmond

1113

I’ve heard some utter tosh from politicians over the years but never anything so blatantly untrue as the comments from our First Minister, Alex Salmond, reported today.  This clown is telling people Rangers need to be saved for the sake of Celtic.  He said:

“The most diehard Celtic supporter understands that Celtic can’t prosper unless Rangers are there. The rest of the clubs understand that as well. Therefore you have to have cognisance of these things when you’re pursuing public policy.

Keep our name out of it you incoherent fool.

If our prosperity depends on the survival of Rangers it’s time our values and priorities changed.  You of all people should know this after your lecturing last year.  Celtic have not been well served by their association with Rangers, nor vice versa.  As a combined entity, the ‘Old Firm’ have not been good for Scotland.

I’m keen to hear what his “public policy” on the matter is.  Salmond goes on to say:

“We’ve certainly been arguing to HMRC on one hand, and indeed to Rangers, to for goodness sake get a settlement, get a settlement and a structure over time whereby Rangers can continue because Rangers must continue for the future of Scottish football and for the fabric of the country.”

How dare you argue with HMRC?  Even Rangers admit the potential underpayment could be £75m.  How many nurses, teachers and policemen would that employ, Mr Salmond?  This is the true cost of his position.

This sorry business has nothing to do with Celtic, I hope our club make this clear to provocative politicians.  All you die-hard Celtic supporters out there better let this man know he has no right to speak for you.

“Fabric of the country”. He got that bit right, alas.

  1. Boys just got this sent to me through email.

Subject: THE ESTABLISHMENT GATHERS AROUND THE HUNS

The Ulster Scot siege mentality so prevalent in the North of Ireland is alive and well in Scotland. The Protestant Establishment for a Protestant people are manning the walls of their ‘New Derry’ in readiness to repulse the Irish Catholic assault on their heritage. Cries of ‘No Surrender’ resound across the West of Scotland. In the halls of the Scots Parliament and Masonic lodges machinations of Machiavellian proportions are underway. The combined forces of the Scots media and government are mobilised to ensure that under no circumstances the law, morality, right and common sense are allowed to enter debate. The Ulster Scots lexicon of excuses is dusted off to defend the indefensible – Heritage, Culture, Society and of course failure to acknowledge any responsibility for their plight. The British public are being bombarded by a Pro Rangers propaganda blitz that Dr Goebbels would envy. Educated articulated dissent is ‘Verboten’. Dissidents are portrayed as irrational and openly dismissed as being motivated by hatred other voices are drowned out by the media openly calling them liars.

so what was the point (or 10) of administration ?

    share

    To implicate Murray?

  5. Now here was me thinking the administrator(s) whats their names? err laurel and hardy associates would the ones to advise on when the affected company would or could come out of administration,

but if craigy says itll happen then itll happen its not as if he has previous for telling porkies

  6. I’m finally beginning to understand Craig Whyte

When he says Rangers will be out of Administraion by March he is saying one thing to the Hun hordes i.e. don’t worry be happy but what he really means is “Rangers will be out of administration because we’ll be in liquidation”.

I suggest you tell her a couple of things. The company employs just over 170 people, including players and coaches, all of whom will find alternative employment, which should make it easier for the SNP to target help for the rest. Remind her also that it government spending – the kind that helps people into and out of work – is dependant on tax collected by HMRC. I also suggest you remind her that government interference in football is frowned upon by UEFA.

She is lying – purely and simply, and I have no objection to saying it – when she talks about HMRC standing a better chance of getting something if the club survives.

HMRC are targeting around 8 high profile EPL teams right now, in separate tax probes, of a very similar sort to this one. Cutting a deal with Rangers means every single one of those clubs will be emboldened to fight all the way. Besides, the CVA is likely to offer only pence in the pound, and that makes it a waste of time.

The maximum return for HMRC is to liquidate Rangers and then break off the bits and sell them to the highest bidder, not to flog them back to the tax dodging original owners.

As to Terry Butchers comments, and her quoting them, I suggest if she’s going to find someone credible she finds someone better than an ex-Rangers player, a self-confessed sectarian bigot (reformed so he says) and someone’s who’s last business venture was a colossal failure on every level and left the tax man out of pocket. He is not a businessman, and thus has no basis to make those claims.

Cant the government just set up a private bank then transfer all the national debt to it then let it fold?

    It could then set-up a debt-free newco?

The UK would then be debt-free and would be able to trade as an equal with all other debt free countries except it couldnt trade in Europe for 3 years.

    Sounds good to me!

“Finally, the potential impact on Scottish football of losing Rangers was captured very well in the comments earlier this week of Inverness Manager Terry Butcher, when he said that Samaras was not to blame for the financial difficulties but he is always around when it happens.”

Clydesdale. Tenants. Sky. ESPN. Yes they might remain but they’ll want to renegotiate.

Yes we will survive and I agree we don’t need them, and whatever they get is too good for them but we will be poorer for it unless we can engineer ourselves into a more competitive environment. The businesses I deal with outside scotland don’t differentiate between us and them. The knowledgeable fans get it but the customers of major potential sponsors don’t. This is a basic fact of business.

Europe – yes but at what level ? You cant challenge in the CL if you arent wealthy. You dont get wealthy without tv money and sponsors. You dont get tv money and big sponsors in a meaningless league.

  14. Lochgoilhead bhoy

I thought exact same about our share price and Salmond’s comment! He has no right casting doubt on the future of an entirely separate company, one which has paid its taxes and is is in strong financial health.

    Really outstanding response from Celtic.

As I posted last night, PL will come to the fore on this and IMO will do us proud – watch this space, this story is just starting….

PS Where were all these politicians in 1994 worrying about the sustainability of the Huns on the result of our demise, where was the support from the Secretary of State, Michael Forsyth I believe, for the state supporting Celtic, who had simply been badly managed, not cheated their way through the previous decades by avoiding tax.

  15. No doubt, and understandably, this site will probably go into meltdown after the ‘administrators’ (a.k.a. Friends Of C.W.) make their statement @ 15:30. on SSN (a.k.a. gobshites).I’ll be watching & listening keenly.

I want to hear no more about how we “need” R.F.C. We’ve had to tolerate them and their fascism for 124 years. Adios….now go forth and procreate.

  16. Statement from Celtic was excellent.

Calm, measured and to the point while not gloating about their predicament.

You can be certain this will be portrayed in the LL as ” Celtic take another cheap shot at ailing Rangers” or suchlike.

Yes, Jackie, they have actually increased the national debt since they went into Government in 2010. The national debt looks likely to continue to rise for the next few years at least. It will all have to be paid back unless Craig Whyte becomes Prime Minister.

    Celtic’s income breakdown:

Stadium Operations, ie Ticket sales etc – £31m

    Merchandising – £14.3m

Commercial (inc TV deals, sponsors etc) – £7.2m

In an ave Champs League season, commercial income is between £16m and £19m so therefore £12m extra or thereabouts.

CL income will make up for a loss in domestic arrangements.
