Keep our name out of it, Salmond

1113

I’ve heard some utter tosh from politicians over the years but never anything so blatantly untrue as the comments from our First Minister, Alex Salmond, reported today.  This clown is telling people Rangers need to be saved for the sake of Celtic.  He said:

“The most diehard Celtic supporter understands that Celtic can’t prosper unless Rangers are there. The rest of the clubs understand that as well. Therefore you have to have cognisance of these things when you’re pursuing public policy.

Keep our name out of it you incoherent fool.

If our prosperity depends on the survival of Rangers it’s time our values and priorities changed.  You of all people should know this after your lecturing last year.  Celtic have not been well served by their association with Rangers, nor vice versa.  As a combined entity, the ‘Old Firm’ have not been good for Scotland.

I’m keen to hear what his “public policy” on the matter is.  Salmond goes on to say:

“We’ve certainly been arguing to HMRC on one hand, and indeed to Rangers, to for goodness sake get a settlement, get a settlement and a structure over time whereby Rangers can continue because Rangers must continue for the future of Scottish football and for the fabric of the country.”

How dare you argue with HMRC?  Even Rangers admit the potential underpayment could be £75m.  How many nurses, teachers and policemen would that employ, Mr Salmond?  This is the true cost of his position.

This sorry business has nothing to do with Celtic, I hope our club make this clear to provocative politicians.  All you die-hard Celtic supporters out there better let this man know he has no right to speak for you.

“Fabric of the country”. He got that bit right, alas.

  1. The Falcon – Yup. I doubt David Cameron has ever given any thought to Rangers FC before today, unless he saw them in the news when they rioted in Manchester.

Salmond knows exactly what Rangers have been up to and what they’re all about. He knows their history and culture and decided to tell the world that Celtic needs them. (thumbsup)

  3. Dear Mr Salmond,

Your support for tax evaders is very puzzling.

Do you realise that if Rangers FC PLC (in administration) had not been evading paying the tax that they owe, you would have had enough extra money in the kitty £75M+ with which you could have built enough new prisons to lock up all of Scotlands Tax Evaders!

This would have had a seriously beneficial effect on the country’s economy as the rate of payment of tax would improve greatly. With this Scotland would enjoy a period of prosperity rarely seen before. In fact so prosperous would the country be that this football mad nation would spend like never before on attending football matches and buying their teams merchandise. The Scottish Game would enter a new era of success off the field quickly followed by success on the field thereby creating a virtuous circle of success

This would foster a feeling of great confidence in the country as a whole and this would result in an overwhelming yes vote for independence and you would be hailed as the architect of this new Scotland. It would be a prosperous Scotland free from bigotry and facing the future with great anticiaption and excitement.

Instead you chose to promote tax evasion and cheating on a grand scale thereby creating a feeling in the country of “if they are not paying their tax then I’m not going to either” which will lead the country to become a Greek Ruin.

This and your recent pronouncements make me believe that you are not very far sighted and you wont be in a position to decide anything very much in a wee while. This is a fate that you will deserve, in much the same way as tax evaders should enjoy an extended stay in prison.

  4. I wonder if there might be a wee hunexpected nugget released in the Administrators’ press conference coming up shortly.

  5. Political posturing and sound-bites, that’s all people.

I work in Further Education and was astonished last week to read about the ‘huge’ improvements to funding announced by John Swinney.

Here’s my principal’s take on them (verbatim):

In yesterday’s budget (8th February) John Swinney announced some changes to College funding for 2012/13. He made reference to:

    1. The £15m transformation fund (this is the fund that had already been announced to assist mergers)

    2. An additional £5m million to support employability initiatives through the College sector (already announced SDS pilot programmes for employability)

    3. An additional £8m for SFC “to help colleges deliver their Opportunities for All commitment”

    4. A top-up of £11.4m for Student Support Funds (Bursaries etc)

It is not clear how, if at all, these monies will reduce our £2m funding cut imposed through the recent SFC allocations and we will need to await clarification from SDS or SFC on how these funds will be applied.

I have just received a letter from the Cabinet Secretary, Mike Russell, which implies that the £8m, together with the £5m, will in fact go to SDS, and not SFC, who will work with colleges to deliver a “new scheme”. This is not good news as it is likely to mean some form of college-based apprenticeship programmes for which challenging bidding and compliance systems will operate.

Essentially, Salmond et al speak with forked tongue. The Threadbears will not be given handouts any time soon.

Btw, our funding was cut by £4m last year too and we haemorrhaged jobs then and we’ll do so this summer. Still, I’m sure all those lecturing staff will be happy to listen to the sound-bite posturing by our esteemed beady eyed quasi-leader.

  6. Excellent response to a prize buffoon Paul 67. If ever CQN was needed it is now. I need to read something objective said about Rangers fall from (dis) grace. they must not be let off lightly.

the irony of their statements (football aside) should not be lost on the people of this country, at a time when workers are being made redundant, after school care is being closed, all household bills are going up etc etc etc

its clearly being muted by these halfwits that its okay not to pay your bills….thats the crux of the matter, this is public money were talking about, public money that could and should have been used to maintain public services,

It’s absurd to say we ( Celtic FC ) need a minimum 4 games against Them every year to survive, which in essence is what he Is saying.

Last year they were shouting that 7 games was far too many, make your minds up you should.!

They tried to shut down the so called, ” old firm ” game due to alleged domestic violence, secterianism and the rest last year..

Now suddenly, It’s a must and the Scottish Economy depends upon It..

Is Celtic the equivalent of the Breadwinner for all..?

Seems a bit strange to lambast and slander and treat with contempt the very folk who are actually the most significant part of the Household budget with calls for serious restriction amongst the supporters.

    Get real Mr. Salmond..

The Old saying was never so prevelant..” Dont Bite The Hand That Feeds You ” for you might be left with nothing more than a Morsel.

Now why dont you do what the voters elected you to do, represent the people, and the services they need to live, like Employment, Education, Health, Proper Housing etc.. and leave the football agent stuff to the Football World.

Rangers have witheld from your very own budget massively, creating many of the issues now banging on the Holyrood Door, your response should not be, give em time, they didnay mean It..!

It should be drag em through courts and make them give back to those that suffered and are suffering as a Consequence.

Im sure Celtic’s Chairman and all associated where not telling porkies or making things up to appease anyone when they said Celtic dont need Rangers, that seems to be your game.

I tend to take his word and Celtics word for It over yours anyday of the week.

Perhaps If you were so concerned and had the know all solutions over concerns to affect Scottish society through footballing Faults, You may have spoken and acted sooner and cut the present debacle off at the Pass , Instead of waiting till the house was on fire.

Prevention has always been better than cure.

Like being silent over strange signing policies over many many years.

Dragging Celtics good name Into the affairs of the hodgit and bodgit Calamity of Chaos that is /was/ Rangers fc..surely and firmly hammers another nail into your Presidential election hopes.

    Here’s Hoping.

    Celtic need Rangers..?

    Now that’s just daft..

Where was the help for our club? This will be the cry from Dundee and Livingston. Clubs like Dundee United and Aberdeen may well ask if government asssistance would be available to their clubs in the event of an insolvency. I think we all know the answer to that question.

Salmond may see votes at stake here. He may also find that support for him and his party ebbs away if he oversteps the mark. It may only be posturing for the cameras at this stage. Anything else may jeopardise his perceived reputation as an astute political operator.
