Kieran, Jozo, daring to complain about the Government

425

I lost count the number of times I heard “Worst Dundee United team I’ve ever seen” on the way out of Celtic Park yesterday. They were guileless, unable to do any more than stand in Celtic’s way, and they didn’t even do that very effectively, as Leigh Griffiths demonstrated.  I hope Mixu gets a grip on things soon as I’ve seen a better United team than that relegated.

For Celtic it was an important win on the back of a week to forget. Martin O’Neill was fond of saying the most important thing after a defeat is to avoid another one, when confidence slips it can often do so for a while.

Kieran Tierney won the free kick which led to the second goal and the penalty for the third. His energy levels were high and he looked every inch a Celtic player. Ronny knows teenage talent needs to be developed at a comfortable pace but the stage is Kieran’s right now he might just make the position his own.

Delighted to see Jozo Simunovic after a long and, for some, worrying absence. This was a difficult game to judge central defenders, as Celtic did so little defending, but what was asked of him was carried out well. He also showed a decent change of pace and sent a rasping shot on target from 30 yards.

While last week will take a while to leave the system, the next five days are enormously important: Heats in the League Cup on Wednesday before Aberdeen on Saturday. We can speculate on what’s destroyed Aberdeen, but whatever it is, there will be clear decks for the visit to Glasgow on Saturday, but before then we have one of our biggest domestic challenges of the season at Tynecastle.  Need to get it right for both.

My first reaction when I saw the Green Brigade banner yesterday was they some poor sod was likely to get huckled for this entirely peaceful and appropriate protest against a ridiculous law and ever-conspiratorial government and police. Such is the nature of the Offensive Behaviour Act that you can’t really complain about the Scottish Government confident that you are free to do so.

The Scottish Government-Police Scotland pact is set in stone. No amount of ridicule from courts to stadiums seem to affect it.  I remain appalled and alarmed.

Brendan Sweeney, legend from Celts for Change and more recently Celtic Graves, is launching his book, Celtic: The Early Years, at the Jock Stein Lounge this Thursday, 29 October. I’ve had a preview, it’s an incredible work. If you’d like to attend the launch, to catch up with the author on some of the most incredible times in our club’s history, email him to book your seat, brendan67@ymail.com

Bada Bing, that is some record for Kris even taking into account he only scored once in the 2011/12 season against some now non existant club.

Got back from Molde Friday morning. Speechless and scunnered till now.

Never been colder, wetter or more destroyed of soul in 48 years watching the Bhoys.

After it, soaked, frozen and shell-shocked, in the packed hotel bar across from the ground I met a man from Donegal.

    – Did you fly over?

“Ah no, I came with the boat. Me and these lads here are fishermen out of Killybegs. We’ve been on the North Sea for 2 weeks.

“Got a fair catch, mackerel in the main, we usually land it into the Peterhead market or France.

“But we fancied seeing the Bhoys, you know, so we tracked up 150 miles and put into Molde.

“Means we have to put out at dawn into this (waves a meaty, scarred hand at the hammering freezing sleet and battering wind) to get to where we have to be in two days, but at least we saw the game. Ach, painful night but that’s the way it goes.

“And these Molde fans are great, eh? They all want to buy us drinks. Salt of the earth.”

Some on here call Celtic supporters “muppets”, “mugs”, “idiots”, “fodder”, “lackeys”.

I wish you have been in the 8th floor bar in the Seilet Hotel in Molde on Thursday night to tell those lads off the trawler.

Football without the fans is nothing. Somebody said that once, but I guess he was a muppet and an idiot as well.

Sipsini I agree. Overwhelmingly from the zombies. Had a few kickings and lots of name calling but I still believe most of Scotland couldn’t care less about sectarian guff. They were disowned years ago.

Gerry, my point was about Scottish hating Scottish Irish Republicans(?)who are also Unionists. Sorry, but Irish politics doesn’t interest me much. Cheers anyway.

Fan, I would assume that most of those Poles would identify themselves as Catholic. They had no problems. The treatment given to Lenny and Artur was of course cretinous.

Ernie, England. Great country. Hissing sounds when Spurs play suggest that England isn’t free from bone headed bigotry.

Wishbone ash takes me back, my older sister tried to educate with their music, sadly it was lost on me.

She would play all the hippy music to me with her patchwork denim trousers and afghan on, while studying, I wasn’t allowed to move and had to nod my head as if I was enjoying it.

Bourne, in my last work, I was called a bigot by a woman I worked with. I asked her why she thought I was a bigot. She told me because I go to every Celtic game I could .

To use a well used phrase, my flabber was well and truly gasted.

I worked in 2001 census and was based in Renfrew.

I handed in a census form to this lady, she looked in her late sixties and not like wan a ra peepul.

She opened up the form. One bit was green . She handed it back to me saying why was the form green. She didn’t like green as she was a Rangers (IL) fan.

    I was out for a meal in the Algarve last week while on holiday. We were seated next to a nice couple from Belfast. The following conversation took place between me and the NI Wife;

Her; So, how did you two vote in the referendum?

    Me; We voted Yes.

Her; Looking shocked – are you not proud to be British?

Me; well,…..we feel very little in common with the SE of England – and totally divorced from the Tory Govt.

Her; Oh, we’re proud to be British.

I delicately declined to point out that she wasn’t actually British – but part of the UK.

    until she said….

We think Nicola Sturgeon is the Anti-Christ!

    Now I’m looking shocked!

ME; Ah, so you’re Proddies then?

Them; What! Why are you saying that???

Me; Well, i doubt anyone who voted for SF would consider Nicola Sturgeon is the Anti-Christ!

We didn’t retire to the Bar for a drink together!

  16. The real joy of CQN is picking up little stories like the one Greenbingly has given us. That one is a pure cracker deserves sharing to a wider audience. Delighted that Scott Allan is going so well, following game on Twitter and he seems behind every good thing that’s happening.

I posted this a while ago, so hope I’m not boring anyone…

Whilst working in Barr&Strouds, Pilkington bought them over, their Crest was green and white and a Celtic cross (you will see their trucks and get where I’m coming from) the Huns ripped the badge off their boiler suits and coats, only to be told if they refuse to wear it they will go throw a disciplinary procedure, which will end up with the sack.

Ultimately, they all had to wear it, to my extreme pleasure. ;)

  18. Spent most of the weekend down in Dublin looking at 1916 Tours etc and got a few quotes. I think it is a bit pricey.

The only reason she thought that supporting Celtic was sectarian was because she knew it wasn’t the team her husband used to support, when both she and he was a bigot. ☺️

It’s still all around us, from Glasgow to Edinburgh to Aberdeen they see a Celtic scarf they see ‘The IRA’, why can’t they be Kafflick school simple like Gordon Smith SFA and see ‘ the enemy ‘?

The good people of Scotland don’t generally in, a ‘get you’re work done society” discriminate especially not while they’re only, kind of still at least half deed.
