  1. Better than a scramble.

I was a very young alter bhoy at St Mungo’s Garthamlock and served mass at my first funeral.

It was an emotional event from start to finish and I was glad when it ended and I was back in the sacristy.

I was sitting emotionally drained when one of the mourners came in and thanked me handing me an envelop

Not sure what to expect I opened the envelop.

    A fiver!

    1962!

I gave it to my Mum and Dad.

Five pounds! A pools win in those days but very sad memories too.

  2. Just listened to the NL podcast, what a quick hour, very enjoyable, wonder if he told Paul John on the QT what the gardener said to him.

  3. ach well bhoys only 3 and a half hours to go and i offically become an old age pensioner, cant believe it seems like only yesterday watching the lions play, sadly 4 have passed, some things stick in your memory though, before ronnie simpson came i think celtic goalkeepers had yellow jerseys thinkink of frank haffey and john fallon but ronnie always seemed to wear a green jersey, over to you tontiine tim.hh

Senior citizen is the new OAP. When I turned 65 a couple of years ago I thought I would get my state pension automatically – I didn’t realise I had to apply for it, My fault the sent me a letter 6 months earlier which I hadn’t fully read.

    Anyway enjoy the autumn years

Greenbingley, I think Father Joe Cairns was the chaplain for St Pius secondary . My brother was friendly with him and really liked him. He thought Father Cairns was a real character.

We lived across from St Laurence’s church . It was great for getting involved in scrambles when a wedding at the church had finished.

My brother and I often got a call from one of the priests if altar boys had not turned up to serve at a wedding or funeral . People were generous with tips we received. We then had to hand them over to go into the pooled money for the annual altar boys outing to the shows and circus at the Kelvin Hall each December.

At my nieces 30th last Saturday night me and the good lady went out with £50 and didn’t even get close to spending that..,,, MissGFTB came home with £55 !

Tried to give my nephew (her godfather & my godson) grief for always giving her money his answer “shut up uncle you akways gave me money” maybe it was a good investment as he makes far more money than I ever will :-)

  7. Seen a couple of questions from earlier enquiring if Celtic have an indoor or outdoor artificial pitch

at Lennoxtown, well here’s the outdoor in all its glory. I think that the proposed new air dome will house the indoor full size artificial pitch. At the moment as can be seen from google earth there is no way that the current facility has a full size indoor pitch. I imagine that the development squad will make full use of the artificial training pitch as the majority of the home ties are played on the 3G surface at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie.

  13. ‘When I turned 65 a couple of years ago ‘ –

I don’t believe i’ve just typed that – where have the years gone, it seems only yesterday when we lost to killie

    – wait a minute :))

  14. The pitches at Killie ,Hamilton are probably the worst I have seen regards plastic pitches. We are not alone in the fact our players hate them. The other 10 teams are of the same mind.Who OKd these pitches?.Was a vote taken?.Surely a united front by the rest of the teams would see an end to them.I watched Dunfermline v St Mirren last week, and the Pars stadium was excellent. The pitch also was fine considering the weather.Compare this to Hamiltons, with buses and vans parked behind the goals.A Cow shed running up one side, acting as a stand.Thistle not much better. This is what we are asking higher class players to come to.Word spreads. No wonder our game is ridiculed.

DALLAS DALLAS WHERE THE HECK IS DALLAS on 4TH FEBRUARY 2018 8:46 PM

He was a wonderful man. In St Benedict’s we had Father Tobin, then Father Clancy, but they were kind of aloof.

Father Cairns – Wee Joe – was never aloof. He was always one of us.

He did the requiem mass for my mum in St Benedict’s in 1986, and I know she would have very happy with that, because she didn’t like pompous bollocks any more than he did.

Notice that Celtic Badge is not in the picture – good that means we’re leaving ( or they take no notice) and

A Rangers badge appears twice – which is correct the died team and sevco

  18. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Greeninbingley, I met Father Cairns a few times , he always came over as a great guy.

Most of St Benedict’s has been demolished now with it only being a fraction of its original size.

It is one of my sister’s and nephew’s parish.

  19. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Gerry, so does the rest of the section. Lol.

My family used to stay close to the blaes pitches at Lincoln Avenue , about a 5 minute walk . We overlooked the third tee at Knightswood Golf Course.

Hello again all you young rebels.

    GERRYFAETHEBRIG

Just catching up on the blog Gerry and seen your list for the top

5 players of pure Celticness i’m a bit late to the party and it’s been

a busy weekend trying to find a hun here to give a bit of stick to.

    Anyway here’s my five.

    John Fallon

    Charlie Gallacher

    Billy Mc Neill

    Tommy Burns

    Jimmy Johnston

The first two in my opinion should have been given more game time

John suffered after a couple of early mistakes which all goalies have

at sometime, and Charlie a sublime footballer who would have been

worth millions in todays game where players are protected more and

also a target for the ” get it up the park ” mob but both chose to stay

with Celtic when they could have graced many another teams jersey.

Big Billy the best centre half in Europe by a country mile and still

ignored by the Scotland selectors for big diddy’s like Mckinnion and

Ian Ure FFS. Admired by many clubs but stayed with his heroes.

Tommy Burns Just bled Celtic what more could you say about him.

And last but not least wee Jinky the best all round footballer i’ve ever

seen he could head the ball better than some 6 footers and even

though he had lumps kicked out of him he kept going and to have

over 100.000 Real Madrid supporters wildly applauding him even

    Messi couldn’t achieve that.

Heading into the city today to meet up with BIGYINMILAN, he’s only

here for a few days so plenty of chat about all things Celtic.

Got my new away top on and white shorts and the ubiqitous flip flops

said to the princess ” how do i look?

” ye might as well go the whole hog Mick and wear green soacks ”

” i’ve not got any green socks ”

” am only kiddin ya eejit ye look daft enuff ”

” mind you i could wear the wee mhans fitbaw socks ”

    ” hrruummmph ”

Wimmen ! they just don’t understand.

Cheers, great insight, like many others I met wee Jinky in the 90s in the aforementioned Scruffy Murphys a total character, I was just awestruck, a bit gutted I never saw him play in real life, his documentary and good lady was a great watch

    Tommy Burns = Celtic
