MELBOURNE MICK,
To me Charlie Gallagher epitomises what a Celtic player should be. Sublime, as you say. He could pass and shoot with the best of them and better than most.
Melbourne Mick, Charlie sits 4 rows in front of me in the South Stand . He is now using a walking stick .
When I first saw him in his seat, I explained to my son who Charlie was and how important a figure he was in Celtic’s history . Charlie took the corners leading to Big Billy’s goals versus Dunfermline in 1965 and Vojvodina in 1967.
One of the guys who sits beside me overheard what I said . He told me he ever thought about how important those two corners Charlie took were.
My dad thought Charlie was our best passer in our squad but Bobby Murdoch just had that bit extra about his overall play.

Your opinion on the pitch at Airdrie where some of future stars from the development squad play all their home games and maybe throw in your opinion on the plastic pitch at lennoxtown
No idea about the Airdrie one.I thought Lennoxtown was a grass pitch.i know they have an artificial,5 a side thing indoors from photos. The two SPFL plastic pitches look like a well worn Axminster carpet.

Looking forward to meeting up later today. Lots to talk about. Yesterday several friends told me the boozer we are meeting in is infamous historically for something called ‘the 6 o’clock swill’. I am sure you will explain and also let me know why you omitted Paul McStay, Pat Crerand and Peter Grant off your list of the five players who bled green-and-white.

Unfortunately we still need to fight the ignorance of the learned. When Barack Obama had a speech in Poland he also said “Polish Death Camps”. We need to repeat that there were only German Nazi Death Camps. Thank you very much.

MELBOURNE MICK,

Charlie did have a thunderbolt of a shot for such a slight guy.It was from one of these that wee Bertie scored in the 1965 final, after it crashed of the bar,and the wee man nodded in.One against the Huns as well in the 5 1 game,I remember.
Tonyrome, unfortunately Fettercairn was out of bounds to me when I was growing up.
My parents deemed it as up the hill , the most dangerous part of the Drum . If you were not known to anyone who lived up the hill , you were lucky to come out unscathed.
Its probably an unfair view on Fettercairn but I rarely ever disobeyed my mum , likewise my dad.
DALLAS
I was also told that about “up the hill” but I wasn’t from the drum and I never seen a minutes bother. I even drank in The Butty and again never a cross word was heard.
But you were always just waiting for it.
KEEP THE FAITH
Good night all.
Thank you for being here.:))) HH

As a young lhad it used to infuriate me at the ignorance of
some supposed footy fans shouting get ” rid o the baw ” or
” lump it up the park ” when Charlie was looking for a pass
but at least in those days you could walk to another part of
the jungle.

Hope your over your jetlag, i swithered over my selction as there

Peter Pedro Grant is a great shout, him & Lorraine had their first flat in Summerlee, as a wedding present from Lorraine’s Gran, those days I was attending home & away games my “burd” at the time was a hun (some things never change :-) anyhows she got speaking to Lorraine & Peter and explained her Bhoyfriend didn’t have a ticket for Pittodrie, next day 2 tickets for the Beech End… no bad words I’m this household for Peter the Pointer :-)
MELBOURNE MICK 9.14pm I have said on here before that I thought John Fallon was a better goalkeeper than Ronnie Simpson but the unluckiest ‘keeper I ever saw.
He never seemed to ‘get away’ with ANY errors compared with other ‘keepers including Simpson.
If Fallon had tried the back-heel in THE final he’d have lost it.Luck and he were strangers!
A bit like me…. if I drop something it shatters,if Mrs. CCB does same it bounces 3 times and remains intact!!!!!!

I posted top five … the more the better :-)

Charlie as you said had a thunderous shot, a bit more confidence
from the support as all players need and he would have shown
it a lot more.
And i totally agree with you regarding some of our professional
stadiums they are a disgrace, we show some of our young bhoys
Celtic vids highlighting various goals, moves etc and they p*ss
themselves laughing at how backward some grounds are.

As you know big Jock had a thing about goalkeepers and Ronnie
was his choice and a good one it was but as you say John was
just unlucky.

Tony, did your mate work in Baku, Azerbaijan? If so, then I watched many games with him in the Bhoys of Baku CSC. The Jamie Jameson I knew passed away, in Baku, in 2015.

take a wee look at the youtube link at 8:47 and see Celtics plastic pitch. Having stood on the sidelines a couple of times in my opinion it no better or worse than some of the plastic pitches i’ve seen. It seems that even back in August that Scott Brown is quoted as saying Celtics exeperience of playing on plastic pitches would benefit Scotland.Maybe we should apply to play in the subbuteo league if we are after the perfect surface on every occasion.

Tony, just checked back – my mate was Jamie Jamieson (with an i). He passed in January 2015. HH
Big Jock let Ronnie go from Hibs so he couldn’t have rated him that much! THOG was unlucky at the footie but not in everything.
Dyslexic description of JF! Sorry,John.

Roberto Mancini today.
Question:What’s your opinion on the game that we played today. Are we physically reay to play the game against Celtic?
I think we played very good game. I must say I’m happy, satisfied with everything I saw on the pitch. What regards the game against Celtic, my opinion is that it is too early to talk about it and to take that game on the agenda. We still have almost two weeks until the game. That is plenty of time to make us ready to it. We need to keep working and we will do it. My plan is to give more games to the players, do changes into the team and correct the squad before the game against Celtic if it’s necessary. I think we all walk the right direction.
Question:Your next opposition is Red Star Belgrade. Is any of these friendly games , the one of today or the next one, the scheme game that you need work with before you face Celtic. Are there any similarities?
I would not make any comparisons between these two teams and Celtic. I’m pretty sure Celtic is completely different story and there is different game that is waiting for us in Scotland. We don’t and will not do special preparations for the game against Celtic. We need to be ready to play against any team, not only against Celtic.
Just see a few posts about Charlie Gallagher, Watched the Hibs game in a pub in Lanzarote laast week.
Got chatting to a fellow Tim and had a couple of drams with him, turned out to be Charlie’s brother.
Told me that Charlie wasn’t too well.
Tonyrome , sorry for the late reply,I was picking my son up from his part time job.
Up the hill in the Drum’s reputation preceded it , sometimes justly , other times unjustly.
Occasionally , the Fire Brigade had to have a police escort if they were called out to a ‘fire’ up the hill .
Corkcelt, as I posted earlier , Charlie sits near me in the South Stand.
He was at the Hibs game the other game and indeed he did not look as healthy as normal.
He is using a walking stick now.
I still feel priveleged to sit close to a former player who played such an important part in our history.
Good blog this morning ghuys and it’s great that we all

Just saw your post as i was saying goodnight , my trip down under is only 42 days away now , getting closer to having a beer with you hopefully !’
MICKBHOY 1888. Never knew anything about JF’s comments re JS,but,I can understand them as even I couldn’t work out how he never played more.
I saw him against Ayr United in 1959 which must have been one of his first games going by the article and my arithmetic
I recently gave the programme for said game to Blantyre Tim to pass on to his Dad.

Stanley Spencer – the colours of the Clyde.
Wonderful memories of port Glasgow.
Where is deleneys donkey these days.
Was on holiday in Arisaig in the summer.
First night took our dog, Jinky, onto the fabulous beach for a runabout.
Fantastic! Too fantastic for Jinky because, every time we tried to get him back on the leash, he simply …well …jinked about taking the piss out of us. No surprise there.
Now, as all this Jinky piss taking was going on, we noticed a family sitting outside a cottage, overlooking the beach, simply watching and laughing as Jinky ripped it right out of us.
Eventually, we bribed Jinky into coming with us but his whole performance delighted our onlookers. They waved to us laughing.
Met the couple who had rented the cottage the next morning on the beach. I was surprised when they knew Jinky’s name. Turns out it was Charlie Gallagher’s daughter and her husband. (Charlie & his wife were staying at the Moray Hotel, 3 miles away, and had come for dinner). She told me that the sight of our Wee Jinky running us ragged had delighted her father. He was particularly happy that the name was still revered.
His daughter, modestly, tried to say that her father wasn’t really a Lisbon Lion because he was ‘only’ in the squad, but we were having none of it and told her so.
She was very gracious.
