Actually so was my old house.

forced substitutions, young inexperienced team, shocking pitch…..v’s…..good organisation, application, heart…..we need to start showing that we’ve got the heart for the fight….skill will then show. ;-))

  6. Responding to some earlier comments I’ve just caught up with…..

I mean no disrespect to the OHG but the idea that he was a better goalie than Ronnie Simpson is ridiculous.

John Fallon would tell you himself that controling his nerves was an ongoing battle for him. Goalkeeping is not just about stopping shots it’s also about spreading confidence and having the respect of the defenders round about him.

JF brought off some truly outstanding saves and made terrible howlers just like every keeper but Ronnie never let his mistakes become a burden. Unfortunately JFs errors added to his generally nervous disposition. Ronnie had a fantastic and varied career and he used all his experience and nous to prolong his football life and thank god he did….we may not have had the success we did otherwise.

To suggest JF was just unlucky is imo not fair on JF himself.

No insult to the OHG intended. He earned the right to be our custodian but very very few would rate him better than Ronnie.

COSYCORNERBHOY was pointing out only that John Fallon was unlucky as his few mistakes led to goals, and often in games when the other ten were struggling.

A 2-2 draw,I think v the huns. Was he to blame for both goals? Maybe so. Was he exposed by his defence? Maybe so. Did the other ten let the team down by not scoring more? Maybe so.

His point was that he was unlucky. Personally, when I attended the matches in the late sixties and his was the first name on the teamsheet-I wasn’t in the slightest perturbed. And I’m pretty certain it took till the arrival of Artur Boruc to have as good a man between the sticks.

At a push,I’d give you Ally Hunter, who I thought was exceptional. And then he wasn’t. Mind you,Artur went the same way.

I’m shocked you can still type after meeting that Guinness guzzling gutbucket. Glad you enjoyed his company, not that it was ever in doubt. I’m kinda hoping to meet up with him myself, but it’s gonna take some serious financial discipline for 18 months. Something I can’t promise for even 18 minutes.

5k,I reckon. Less than £300 a month. Easy, aye? Need to cut my legs off to stop me gaun tae the pub,my hands off to stop me writing out betting slips,my tongue off to stop me asking for more beer.

I might as well hope to die of blood loss!!!

Won’t stop me trying to do it though…

  15. Truth be told.

I’ve never thought that Broonie is as hard as nails.

    I reckon Kouassi is.

From Quora, interesting way to spend the time when you’re bored.

In answer to the question-I’m thinking of moving from the US to the UK,is it safe?-a quite excellent reply from a mid-60s Glaswegian lady who clearly realised that the yank in question wouldn’t really understand GIRUY and GTF.

Rosalind Mitchell, lives in Glasgow Scotland

    Answered Dec 23 2017

    Let’s put it this way.

Britain has a population of 60 million. That’s a fifth of the population of the US in an area the size of Oregon. Twelve of the fifty states have a population density lower than the Western Isles, the most sparsely populated part of Britain.

There were 15,696 murders in the US in 2016, according to the FBI. In Britain there were 575.

The homicide rate in Glasgow is 5.1 per 100,000 residents. It’s 59.1 in St Louis MO and 55.1 in Baltimore MD (hey, I liked Baltimore when I was there!). It’s on a par with (fractionally lower than but within the margin of error) Anaheim CA, where I’ve never been but I understand is considered a very safe city by US standards. Glasgow was said to be the murder capital of Europe, a title it took over from Limerick in Ireland and has now handed over to Talinn, Estonia. I live in Glasgow; there’s nowhere I wouldn’t feel safe walking at night and I’m a 63-year-old single woman. There are parts I wouldn’t go out of my way to try, but they are not places I would need to go anyway. I’m confident that if I did try I’d be unlikely to come to any harm unless somebody thought I was trying to muscle in on another’s drugs turf. Yes, there is a serious drug problem and associated gang problem, but leave them alone and they won’t want to draw attention to themselves by getting involved with outsiders.

Britain, and Europe in general, is about as safe as it gets. If you come to Glasgow you’ll get an especially warm welcome.

  19. There is a MSM campaign to undermine Celtic from within. Yes, it has become fashionable to criticise your own players indeed some of the comments are brutal and savage. I know all the arguments about ye pays yer money etc, but I think that players need their confidence boosted not destroyed. The MSM are very clever in what they do and provoke criticism to (1) Get a phone-in started etc (2) Drive a wedge between the club and its supporters

THIRD 63: merely expressing my opinion of RS and JF as I saw them over the years and in doing so highlighted their respective ‘luckiness’.Any opinion is exactly that and to attach any other adjective or adverb to it is superfluous and frankly, ridiculous!

    KTF.

Whilst on I was disappointed by the performance, the result and the loss of two CHs but more than that by the ‘supporters’ beside me (with the exception of two well known CQNrs) whose diatribes vastly exceeded their encouragement. Only away game I manage to get tickets for so I will blame it on the useless pitch(which it is!) and not be judgemental!

Things are bad when you are worried about Boyata facing an injury lay off.

Don’t think it came as a surprise to too many that the passage of play that resulted in his injury came from another wayward pass from the big guy. These unforced errors have an effect of team cohesion and change games, directly or indirectly. His jittery defending and woeful positioning are such that no amount of work on the training ground are going to turn him into a defender for Celtic long term.

Too early to judge Jack Hendry of course, who started well but got caught out for pace a couple of times late on. I’d say he couldn’t believe how disjointed we were. Pitch not great but we’ve played better on a lot worse over the years.

Has anyone noticed how many attacking moves break down with Moussa Dembele losing possession? Wasn’t an issue on Saturday of course, virtually anonymous.

We are a far better side when Leigh Griffiths is in it. Lets hope hes not out for too long.

  22. Reading back, seeing John Fallon being discussed got me thinking about the song we sung as kids on the school bus.

    “ Fallon, Youngand Gemmell…..

I’m thinking I was about 8 at the time, maybe 9, so it’s around 1966/67.

In the lyrics we sang, 3 weren’t Lions.

Ian Young, Jim Kennedy and John Divers.

I started going to the games about this time. From memory, I remember Ian Young still being around, but don’t recall Jim K or John Divers?

John Fallon I’m sure I seen?

It’s throwing up the question for me as to when this song first appeared? Given Jinky, Tommy Gemmell etc are named I’m thinking 65 or thereabouts?

If so, did big Jock punt Kennedy and Divers? Or were they still around but not played? Or did I in fact see them and my memory is playing tricks on me as is it’s want these days?

( I once lost a bet when I was convinced it was Macari who scored our goal in the 4-1 Partick shocker. I was certain I was correct:-(

I guess I could google the aforementioned players and put an approximation on the song inception but I’d rather hear the opinions of the bhoys who were around.

Bit harsh to judge the young fella on Saturday’s performance. I admit to wondering why we signed him,but with three at the back and losing two of them,I doubt it’s fair to give him a hard time for that.

Nae offence, just pointing it out. Apparently I’m always disagreeing wi people on here,so thought I’d best point out that while your opinion is noted, and important, that’s mine!

And I’m fed up getting deleted anaw.

  24. Talking of my memory, I’m convinced I bought a Celtic scarf from a sports shop in Edinburgh which belonged to Ronnie Simpson?

Off the top of my head,Dalglish scored for us. I remember Bobby Lawrie-Kilwinning fella, good pal when I knew him in the late 90s,Dennis McQuade and Jimmy Bone scored for them.

    Can’t remember the other one.

It was my first Cup Final. And I’m pretty sure that in four years,it was the first time I’d seen us lose.

I think Ronnie had a trophy shop in Edinburgh,so you may be right. The Cup Final you might have been thinking of was the replay in 72,he scored the winner-off his knee,possibly?-and Harry Hood the other in a 2-1 mullering of the huns.
