Knowing your limitations

1188

Rumour has it that prior to their play-off second leg against Hamilton Accies last season Terry Butcher spoke to his Hibs players about their prospective lap of honour.  It was fatal.  Two goals up from the first leg away from home, he thought the job was done.  Hibs were relegated despite having fourth highest wages in the division.

Scottish football is more competitive, healthier, than most would give it credit for.  As yesterday’s Scottish Cup Final demonstrated.  Two towns, emptied of most able bodied adults, urged their team onto what would be an historic win, whichever way it went.

John Hughes is a very modest man.  He speaks highly of his peers and considers himself someone who does the obvious things thoroughly.  Maybe knowing your limitations is the first step to achieving greatness.  I was delighted for him.  His predecessor at Inverness, Terry Butcher, flattered to deceive.

    Cheers!

  2. I will repeat what I said a few days ago. Rangers’ only option now is to cut their cloth accordingly, which means a few low-cost or Bosman signings and an assortment of youth players on a vastly reduced wage bill.

Dave King won’t invest millions in the playing staff while they’re still in the second tier and nowhere near Europe.

The Ibrox train has hit the buffers, just as when Craig Whyte’s team were dumped out of Europe.

They’ll do very well to reach the top 4 in the Championship next season.

Yes mate, and the atmosphere has just improved immeasurably!

  5. A day of tremendous mirth the only downside being Steve McManus talking about them as ‘Rangers a club of tremendous stature’. Soup is on the table when your career is over Steve. At least Pearo nailed it.

Did you see their youths at Hampden ten days ago?

Our under 20s would beat Sevco first team. Happy Days! :))

While I’m still gutted that we didn’t get the treble, on reflection, I wouldn’t swop it for what happened today.

As Meat Loaf warbled “Two out of three ain’t bad!”.

  9. Tom mcLaughlin..Thats the reason mccall was given the job, to do what he did at motherwell, he even said it himself post match interview, His strength as he sees it is in identifying players on the cheap , I expect him to be in the job next season…i Dont Expect the hun followers to buy into it…Happy Days..

  10. Sandman,

    Great stuff!

Just wait until they wake up in the morning and remember that Alloa, their “bogey” team, survived their play-off!

Difficult shift for Jim Traynor tonight.

Any suggestions to help him put a positive spin on this one?

They won’t have to pay the £500k to Newcastle……..

will the hootenanny coincide with the Wolftones weekend.?

was planning taking my non-drinking, anti football missus to Dublin with the promise of going to see a proper orchestra.?

  13. Putting it out there as i did last night….League reconstruction will kick in Season After Next…No Doubt in my mind ….

Poor Jim Traynor………..succulent corned beef just doesn’t have the same ring to it……..

  15. “What we saw today, what we’ve seen from Sevco this season, was an overdue exposure to reality.

It cracked open a door no-one really wanted to open, the front door of that big sprawling mansion in the cult classic movie The Money Pit, where Tom Hanks and Shelly Long buy a big, impressive looking house that is rotting from the inside.

That’s what Rangers was, and in trying to pretend that club survived liquidation it made sure that it’s all Sevco was going to be.

The money to “restore it” to the glory days isn’t there, and that’s partly because people still haven’t grasped that it was never really there in the first place. The “glory days” were a product of one man’s giant ego and one bank’s criminal largesse and once that was at an end a readjustment in the club’s stature was always going to come.”

I’m now beginning to realise the true extent of the problems faced by the NHS.I’ve just been told that I’ll have to wait at least four months to have this smile surgically removed.Shocking.

    What a great day!

Sir DM, Paul Murray, Glib and Shameless, our Hero, Chuckles Green, Imran Ahmad, Mr Super Salary, the Mullet, Kenny McTrowell, Mr succulent lamb, Ian Black, Bilel Moshni and Big Mike.

You have all been wonderful. We couldn’t have done it without you.

  19. Make no mistake, this is a catastrophe for them.

Not only financially, but culturally too. Scotland is laughing at them tonight. No-one fears them anymore. The notion that they were a wronged club, in the lower divisions by virtue of the dirty deeds of others, and on the verge of taking their revenge… well that fantasy has been well and truly blown out of the water.

Finally the face the choice they failed to make 3 years ago: humbly accept their limitations and build from the ground up…

… or pretend they are still Billy Big Baws and splurge their way into the top flight using other peoples money.

I honestly do not know whether they can handle the austerity that is about to hit them.

I’ve seen people say ‘hard to find positives about this season’. Our club no longer being bled dry by crooks is pretty decent.

Hi bhoys and ghirls a wee appeal my daughter Elizabeth a long time season ticket holder since our return from hampden, and now has a son and daughter, season ticket holders, is running the Edinburgh marathon today Sunday 31/5/2015 on behalf of Celtic charity, the Celtic foundation. A wee aside Elizabeth’s birthday is on 6th November 1987 exactly one hundred years to the day, brother Walfrid, formed Celtic, a born Celt.

Well that’s the run over she finished in a time of 4hours 24minutes it was a great moment seeing her come up to the finish line. Proud as.

When we got back to the park and ride depot me and the wife went in to the premiere inn for a bite to eat, just as Motherwell scored their second goal a great day became a brilliant day, Hail Hail and thanks again to all CQNrs who sponsored Elizabeth and sent good wishes.

  22. Speyside lhad: Almost certain it does. Easter weekend 2016. We plan an evening event on Easter Saturday. There will be plenty do to and see that weekend so people will be able to pick and choose what they want to go to.

  23. over the years thems have had some players that you would call ‘real rangers men’

players that played for their club and loved their club, they would never ever have acted in the way that Moshni and that other tosser Diouf behaved

what is it within Ibrokes that makes outsides come into that place and act like that, is it a pressure from the fans or what.?
