Larsson, Lennon and Brown

Friday is the 8th annual Celtic Quick News Open.  The event, in which our guest speaker will be Livingston FC Manager and former Celt John Hughes, is completely booked up with a record 54 golfers. In addition to playing golf and having fun the CQN Open raises funds for good causes

Our good causes this year are The Haven Centre in Blantyre, Oscar Knox Neuroblastoma Appeal, Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and Aberdour Primary School Parents’ Association.

We have already distributed over £2000 thanks to the sale of a Joseph Gormley painting back in April. We have two further fantastic paintings by Joseph; one of Scott Brown and one of Henrik Larsson. We also have a wonderful signed Neil Lennon print by the artist Gary Brandham.

The items are being raffled on ebay right now for the price of a £1 ticket. Winners will be drawn at the CQN Open on Friday night. There will be further raffles and auctions on Friday night with some excellent golfing and other sporting activities been donated by the Celtic family. Perhaps the pick is a limited edition canvas print of John Thomson, donated by the John Thomson Memorial Committee. There are only 22 of these in the entire world, representing the 22 years of John’s life.

This is a unique opportunity to win three great pieces of Celtic memorabilia, items which would normally be pushed out of the reach of most people at auction. Tickets cost £1, buy as many as you like, but participate. This is what your club is all about!

Many congratulations to Sean Fallon on his 90th birthday. I am delighted his autobiography is currently being written. Sean is our last remaining link to huge parts of our history. He was there, participating in the decision process, on so many of the things we now take for granted. The research, preparation and publicity surrounding his autobiography will be an opportunity to make sure younger generations get to appreciate the great resource he is. Let’s hope we get a CQN interview one day.

Sighs of relief will be heard around many dens of iniquity as Rangerstaxcase sails into the sunset; well done on excellent work. RTC’s “99% crap” has teased, entertained and informed for over a year. History is already being rewritten, but the inescapable fact is that Rangers diaspora were far better served by RTC than by the army of cheerleaders Sir David Murray or Craig Whyte depended upon to make their work possible.

The ‘buy lots of raffle tickets’ message if for you, b.t.w. so what are you waiting on, they are only £1 each!!!

I am beginning to think that balloon Brown might be on to something about who has the Title Deeds. If Sevco authorise all these high wages and ‘The rangers’ go bust, I bet you would find that the property is held by another company all together.

What is Dean Shields thinking about? and what’s his father telling him?

Shields is a cracking player. In my view amongst the best midfielders in the SPL last season. Why on earth is Division 3 the extent of his ambition?

Rangers have taken a significant step towards eradicating their debts by raising £51 million through a rights issue which has strengthened David Murray’s hold on the club.

Accounts for the year ending June 30 2004 revealed that debt had spiralled to a record £73.9 million, despite cost-cutting measures.

Murray announced his intention to raise up to £57 million through the rights issue when he returned as executive chairman in September, following a two-year absence from the day-to-day running of the club.

He also said that up to £50 million would be underwritten by his own company while existing shareholders would be able to match their shares, one for one.

Yesterday, Murray’s shareholding stood at 91.8 per cent after it was announced that £51,430,995 had been raised through the issue of 100p shares.

In many cases, existing shareholders applied for additional shares, and the rights issue also succeeded in attracting 1,263 new shareholders, raising a further £307,530.

Murray believes the financial future of Rangers now looks far more optimistic: “The success of the fundraising was guaranteed by MHL underwriting the issue, but the investment by over 4,500 subscribers demonstrates strong support for this initiative.

The supposed share issue in October/November is what he’s aiming for imo.

The thing being, if the hordes aren’t buying season books as they don’t trust him, what’s the chances of them buying shares?

  6. So Newco, or Sevco, are actually Oldco, but without the debt!!

THE Board is delighted to confirm that the official name of the company that owns Rangers is being changed to The Rangers Football Club Limited.

This process was completed following an Extraordinary General Meeting of ‘oldco’ shareholders today when procedures were approved that enable Sevco Scotland Limited to change its name to The Rangers Football Club Limited.

Charles Green, Chief Executive of The Rangers Football Club, said, “The process that took place today is the penultimate piece of the jigsaw that will see The Rangers Football Club move forward, with the transfer of SFA membership being the final piece.

“As every fan knows, Rangers is Rangers – it always has been and it always will be. The Club still has its 140 years of history and we are now embarking on the next 140 years.

“We are back playing football and the Board is focused on rebuilding this great Club over the next few years.

“Our fans were fantastic on Sunday at Brechin and their support at Ibrox and away from home this season will be instrumental in helping the team achieve the success we all desire.”

  7. If they game is on setanta Ireland will it be on setanta Australia ?

On the Derry city site there was a talented writer who when the big games came around he would write a good long battle cry about why everyone who can go should go and how as fans we have our part to play, make noise and support the team from the minute they leave the tunnell.

Would be good to see similar done for tomarrow night and posted on various Celtic sites , fbook etc.

It could make or break our season .

To all those who can make it, enjoy and back the team. Drown out the groaners an moaners.

    yline: By John Penman

DAVID MURRAY last night vowed to use the forthcoming rights issue to bankroll the signing of new players.

The Rangers chairman’s latest initiative to cut the debt – which now stands at pounds 72million – could raise at least pounds 50m.

The Ibrox financial woes were graphically highlighted with the release of the latest figures.

It has been revealed that more than two thirds of last season’spounds 6m loss was swallowed up in interest payments – which effectively means the club has been reduced to fire fighting.

The annual accounts showed rigorous cost-cutting and transfer of big-name players cut its annual loss from pounds 29.6m to pounds 5.9m.

But at the same time its overall debt has risen from pounds 68m to pounds 72m.

That means the club shelled out just over pounds 4m to pay for its growing debt which translates to a massive pounds 11,000 per day.

But yesterday Murray moved to allay fears the cash crisis is spiralling out of control and claimed money may be made available to bring in new faces.

He said: ‘Our club retains great strength.

‘The long-term future will be secured through our proposed fund raising and together we will bring the good times back to Ibrox.

‘Although the fundraising will not alter our basic business strategy, which is to maintain a balanced approach to onand off-field activity, it will enable us to reinvest operational cash flow which would otherwise have gone to service the debt.’

Last year’s Champions League campaign helped turnover rise by16.5 per cent to pounds 57.1m – even though Alex McLeish’s men failed to capture a single piece of silverware.

This year’s figures will make even more depressing reading for the shareholders after the qualifying-round flop to CSKA Moscow.

However, that blow will be softened if McLeish steers his men past Maritimo and into the UEFA Cup group stage.

Murray said: ‘While trading performance has improved significantly in recent years, the reduction of the historic debt eliminates negative media attention, removes the significant interest burden and enhances the club’s net asset position.’

But before McLeish starts to rub his hands together at the thought of more cash to splash, the chairman insisted the manager won’t be handed a blank cheque.

Instead he warned that the club must be run within ‘budgetary restraints’.

However, one financial guru insists the future is looking brighter for Rangers.

David Glen thee financial guru of international accountant giants PWC described the results as ‘encouraging’ and said once Rangers’ debt had been dealt with, the Old Firm would be on a level financial playing field.

He added: ‘The results can be seen in a positive light as Rangers have taken between pounds 4-5m off the wage bill and increased turnover because of the Champions League. They’ve also taken a financial hit by writing down the value of players’ contracts but all clubs have had to do that.

‘After the rights issue, both clubs’ debts will be about the same and their relative financial success will then depend on how well they do in Europe.’

Exit The cost-cutting began last summer when Lorenzo Amoruso and Neil McCann were sold to Blackburn and Southampton respectively for pounds 1.4m and pounds 1.5m.

Captain Barry Ferguson soon controversially followed them out of the exit door when he made a pounds 7.5m move to Blackburn.

However, McLeish is now in line to be handed more funds – assuming he’s still in the hot seat.

I keep hearing the same thing about league reconstruction over and over again. This notion conveniently forgets one thing though- fan power.

If clubs are in a position where they are presented with a vote again it will be Groundhog Day. If fans hold back from Season Ticket renewals the Chairmen will not vote it through.

I don’t understand why intelligent people worry otherwise.

Saying that league reconstruction to let Sevco into SPL will happen time and time again doesn’t actually mean it will happen. The same people told us they will be let back into the SPL no sanctions, then SPL sanctions, then Division 1 no sanctions, then Division 1 sanctions. Division 3 wouldn’t happen they said. Well it did.

League reconstruction may happen, there now seems to be a bigger appetite for it. But Sevco will need to work their way up like everyone else.

Fans will not stand for anything else as we have already seen.

Fat Sally will need to do as Gretna did when they were splashing cash and plough on thorough the Divisions.

  28. Madness of Hun Media goes into meltdown:

For some time now, I have felt that there must be more we could be doing to out those corrupt b******s at the SPL/SFA, SAS, IRA, CFC, DHSS, AA, BBC…and Pink Floyd for singing “Green is the Colour”…as well as everyone else who are conniving to kill us off.

Rhegan is now less of a threat since we now have our license. He can be dealt with in good time. He cannot hide. Wherever he is we will find him and hunt him down like a mangy three legged fox. Doncaster and his new found allegiance with the smiling faced Toptaig Liewell who is really running Scottish fitbaw, are more of an immediate threat to us due to their sneaky, underhand plans to strip our titles. Titles that we honestly worked hard to cheat from others. This isn’t an easy thing to do: to cheat and lie and get away with it is most of the time harder to pull off than being straight-forwardly playing to the rules and winning…so logic tells you that we deserve those trophy’s even more for duping all the others for those years of success. I think we should be congratulated rather than demonized by these bunch of lilly sniffing tree hugging social work zealot types that hypocritically rant on about fair play and rules.

This is the modern world, a world of ipods and hyper capitalism, a world of wholescale institutional corruption where there is no need for superstitious and sentimental nonsense about old fashioned moral integrity and the law. Rules are for losers.

We need to use every dirty trick we can to get the proof that will destroy Liewells plans. Whether its bribery, blackmail, rape, threats, intimidation, extortion, water torture, Haitian voodoo, thumb-screws, taking hostages, or any other way to find any skeletons that they have hidden away, or even playing the badger-game on Liewell then blackmail him into resigning. Even historically. By all accounts, the Kelly family lied and cheated for years during their tenure at the paddydome, surely then there must be, surely, yes, anything, come on, there is, just a wee bit of something…a whiff, a brief billow of smoke, a hint of something even a little incriminating…there has to be doesn’t there?

The giro dome and Hampden must be full of low paid office staff. Cleaners, tea ladies, secretaries, the paper man, the jannie, the bin guy…anybody, somebody surely, must be for sale…we could pay them off with rhinos from the fighting fund…wonder if any of them would have access to emails, pictures, documents or conversation and could be bought off…all using some of the RFFF funds.

Any little snippets we can find on these c***s should be posted up on forums, face book, twitter etc. The more s*** we throw at them, the more chance that some of it will stick, even if it is just all made up or a complete lie…but that disnae matter right now because we are in a WAR. People can be vetted for any possible chance that they might support our cause. They can be approached and offers made, like in a Len Deighton spy novel and we can pay them in brown paper envelopes…anybody up for it?

It makes you wonder if that’s how the BBC, Channel 4, Daily Rhebel, STV, Sky, The Sun, The Daily Mail, The Herald, the SNP etc and the rest of our enemies have gathered the so called “proof” to help their crusade in hammering us. I’m sure they have in some way or other. Imagine if the thread in here today with the pictures of liewell and doncasters sneaky meeting had been on video, and we could actually hear what was being said…or even if they go to the wee mens room together we could have someone with a camera on the end of the bell end of their pink cigar…just Imagine if at the next SPL board meeting, a tiny camera, hidden in a plastic plant pot could be recording every word of their corrupt plans to stitch us and the SFL clubs up and the footage leaked onto YouTube. That would nail their coffin firmly shut and prove that the corruption in our game, that we so much difficulty in proving was rife. Pens, staple guns, poppy’s, lighters, tables could be bugged with multi-directional microphones and wrist watches etc with tiny hidden HD cameras are available these days…James Bond stuff, I know. But you know what………if Bond was a fan of a fitbaw team, you can guarantee it would be the most Quintessentially British Club in the land…James Bond is a fan of the The Rangers. FACT.
