Legends, history, £6k and tens of thousands of Celtic fans

1401

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 9-in-a-row CQN Charity Golf Day at Aberdour in Fife, yesterday.  The event, auctions and raffles leading up to it raised £6000, the bulk of which will go to the 1254125 appeal, while some will go to Clic Sargent, who help families with children with that dreadful disease.

Lisbon Lion, Willie Wallace, and his wife Olive, were fantastic guests, who enjoyed spending a day with 70 or so friends.  It doesn’t matter how far away Lisbon Lions live, you always find them the same way.

My sincere thanks to everyone who came along, bid of the auctions or bought a raffle ticket, all in aid of people you will never know. Thank you from all of us to John, Kevin and John, for their stressful work in pulling the event together, for the ninth year!

125 years ago a handful of people, living in a community devastated by hunger, destitution and TB, but who could make a difference, decided they would make a difference.  As a result, Celtic was born.  Celtic is not just something to brighten up your weekends, it’s not purely there to build friendships or to create common-interests across the generations, it is a movement you are required participate in.

The clarion call to all Celtic fans this year is to do more than just put your hand in your pocket, the spirit which gave birth to the concept of Celtic will only survive if those who can get involved, inspire a fresh generation by doing so.

Go register for 1254125, and commit to doing something to raise £125.  It can be anything.  You can walk a 1888 meters, go to the barbers and get a baldy to celebrate the signing of Amido Balde, it doesn’t need to be as ambitious as the 150 brave souls who right this very moment are atop Ben Nevis about to undertake the world’s highest huddle.

If you believe in this club, don’t leave it to someone else to take care of what’s important.  The same goes for your season ticket.  It has been over a century since we have been as close to the founding spirit of our club, but the sporting dramas which inspire us all are not achieved by new strikers, they are the fruits of tens of thousands fans buying season tickets.

Go stake your claim on Celtic.

My wife loved her time last year in Sensatori Sharm hence returning this year.

I think I read some time ago that Sensatori Tenerife was their first (Thomson) Sensatori before moving on to other areas.

Looking forward to it with great confidence that it will be a very good place to stay.

Would love to have been at the gowf yesterday but thought better of it for health reasons:o)

Was that the infamous RH Davidson final? My first ‘Scottish’ final. Won the Shinguards in the green Citizen that evening – no rampage for me.

They need to keep working on their ‘kettling’ in the close season and with all those peaceful parades with law abiding drunks following them, it’s just to much for them to deal with; I mean it leads to awards from her Majesty!

I am not so sure Celtic FC can be described as a movement any longer. As long as every decision that it makes has one aim and one aim only. Maximising profits. Yes even if that means giving away a % of those profits to charity. Lets not forget that those profits are heavily impacted when for example we lose out on participating in the CL due to licensing criteria being overlooked.

It is the most quiet and subservient of movements if it is. Not quite Ghandi if you ask me.

We dont speak out when the games administrators break every rule in the book to pursue a corrupt target. Although we are a powerful member. The second most powerful member. In fact the only show in town. Yes we need to protect Scottish football but does this not mean that this movement should speak out about injustice ?

That to be frank is the least that I expect. Quite collusion to obtain the plcs ends is not a movement and you are being foolish if you think or you have a vested interest in the plcs aims. Which might be honourable aims ? who knows I am not privy to that information.

    Which leads me thinking

Surely we have to lead by example ?

We dont speak out on the corruption that allowed one of our former business partners to defraud the treasury and the implications of the sport in general.

    Which leaves me thinking;

We turn a blind eye when the spivs come to town.

We turn a blind eye to the 5 way agreement.

We return the architect of the 5 way agreement unopposed .. again by turning a blind eye.

We say “we are surprised” when Lord Nimmo Smith returns his Sandy Bryson verdict. Sorry but that does not satisfy me at all.

The program of sanitisation is being adhered too.

That´s where we alienate from a position of strength as much as possible the SFA. We include Sevco in the new league setup. I predict cosmetic punishment. Living with the paradox of Newco/Oldco. The fallout from what Rangers FC will be very little.

Nothing has happened yet. No punishment whatsoever.

We will see no more real punishment. By the time Campbell Ogilvie has left office, Sevco will be back in the SPL. The Old Firm will be restored and the chances of an escape from Scotland can only happen via the Old Firm. Well that´s what will be spinned, implied, theorised upon, suggested. When the truth is it is about preserving the 100 year Old Firm marketing model.

Imagine if we do get a joint invite and how badly smeared both Old Firm clubs will be by what has just happened in Scottish football over the last 10 years. Is everybody turning a blind eye ?

We can´t escape on our own. We have never managed it in 50 years of talking about it.

So the solution is save The Old Firm. Where on half gives millions to charity while the other half steals from it. Is that okay cause its daft huns money ?

I am losing the faith rapidly with every time Phil and Paul print copy.

Am I to be ex communicated ?

glad to see the police are using their resources carefully and honing in on trouble – maybe one of these days they will respond to my 999 call of twelve years ago where a serious assault took place outside my house and without my or my neighbour’s intervention the boy might have been in a bad way – the ambulance heard the call ok and the boy after a spell in hospital recovered fully – but priorities first

    Sadly I feel the same.

The OF back on track has been the number one priority since they went into admin.

Problem is, in this day and age, everything else goes out the window, it’s all about the money, nothing else matters.

What has been going on this past time during the huns lack of punishment has shown the world that.

There is no integrity any more, and that is across the board, and I can’t get my head around how anyone can defend that we are above them in the integrity stakes.

Aye we pay our way, so do most people, that doesn’t give us any moral high ground, we are only doing what is expected, to turn a blind eye, just as bad imo.

Simpson, Craig and Gemmell, Murdoch, McNeill and Brogan, Johnstone, Lennox, Wallace Chalmers and Auld.

Lennox (13), Wallace (54) Murdoch (67) Johnstone (77) and Brogan (88) were the scorers.

Attendance 37000 and the win kept us 4 points ahead of Rangers (1872/3 – 2012) who had a game in hand.
