Legia less appealing, Man City under-grad

1542

Surprised we got two in yesterday, as Manchester City under-grad, Jason Denayer, signed for a year-long loan last night.  The 19-year-old has yet to play first team football so is likely to be considered as backup at Celtic, though reports are promising.

Not surprised that Legia Warsaw have lodged an appeal to Uefa to be re-instated into the Champions League, they have to try everything possible.  It has not been confirmed what ground Legia have appealed on, however, at the weekend, Polish FA chief exec, Zbigniew Boniek, suggested an appeal would be made on two grounds:

That only one member of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body was at the hearing to made the decision, and

That Legia were not given the chance to make a submission to the Body.

There are 10 members of the Disciplinary Body and rules state that decisions require the attendance of at least three, unless the case is “urgent”, when a decision can be taken by one member.  To defend their process, Uefa need to insist that the circumstances were urgent, probably citing the Champions League play-off draw, which was due to take place two hours later.

While the Disciplinary Body allow submissions to be made prior to a hearing, Article 34 authorises the Body to undertake a hearing without submissions and “in the absence of one or all of the parties”.

In the unlikely event Legia won an appeal on procedural grounds, a subsequent hearing, perhaps with more Disciplinary Body members in attendance, would take place, and would inevitably reach the same conclusion.

Article 21, paragraph 2, of the Uefa Disciplinary Regulations state, “A match is declared forfeit if a player who has been suspended following a disciplinary decision participates in the match.”  There is no ambiguity or lateral for the Disciplinary Body to exercise a different reprimand.

Legia’s appeals can carry on all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport but Celtic will not be involved in any future issues.  NK Maribor represent a vastly, vastly, greater risk to their Champions League aspirations.

I’m ‘over the top’ excited …… new season, new manager, new signings, hand of God in the CL ….. QUADRUPLE THIS YEAR…..REMEMBER, YOU GOT FROM ME FIRST …… and the Glasgow Celtic will be there …….. HH

  2. I don’t believe we had an option to buy Fraser Forster when we first took him on loan. Bearing in mind Denayer will have to be world class at 21/22 to break into the Man City team, there’s a few acts to play out out before his future and Celtic’s options are determined.

I got stick on here last night for saying I wouldn’t be against a replay with Legia on principle, as I believed it was a genuine mistake they didn’t realise until after the game.

Having read this morning that the player himself raised the question prior to the game, I would like to switch my position to saying:

Away n fling keek at the moon. You had ample opportunity to check things were in order and chose not to.

    Good on you mate.

My original view was that it was a harsh punishment for an honest admin error. But now the player seems to be saying that at least he and another player were aware of the issue before the game and highlighted it. This points up the difficulty of dealing with something like this and also highlights why Celtic have been absolutely right all along not to engage – this is for UEFA to sort out.

As Al Murray, The Pub Landlord would say – “Rules is rules. And if we didn’t have rules then where would we be? That’s right – France!”.

I’m not against criticism of the board, manager, the team or individual players when it’s called for but none of it seems to be constructive it all seems to be anti Celtic,a hun like trait I think you’ll agree

Sorry for the late reply but work got in the road, which it’s about to do again

  6. SSN reporting that MIBs considering strike action over pay. MIBs who get the Edinburgh derby or a Sevconian game against one of the Edinburgh teams will get payed less than the MIB who’s got the St Mirren v Hamilton gig, SPFL games command a bigger fee per game than the lower leagues.

Just some thoughts on the loan signing from Man City.

In my opion the defence needs to be settled going into the Maribor game. If he is going to play in those games he must play tonight and the rest of the games leading up to the first Maribor match. Barring injury we must keep the back 4 the same for all these matches. We have a new keeper too. They will need to gel before Maribor. If we change our defence more thanb twice before then I will be scratching my head wondering what is going on. Settled team from now on in Ronny. Make your changes to the line up small and in the forward areas. Messing with the defence too much is a disaster waiting to happen!

I agree. A settled defence is what we should aim for. Any idea if RD took this approach at his last club?

  8. Moonbeams WD. Wee Oscar’s our Bhoy and Kano’s our mhan.

I think that is why the new fella will play and Ambrose will play in front in defensive midfield where he should have played since we signed him. I believe it is his preferred position.

40 years ago I was at an old firm game Celtic got a penalty, it went in off the post, 10 feet in the air I was and screaming like a Maddy (I still do) about maybe a minute after the goal were all happy and still hugging each other guy behind me sais ” Ffs man he nearly missed that it hit the inside post and went in” I just turned round and looked at him, never said a word, he got it, my question is twentyfirstofmaynineteenseventynine, was you that guy ;)

Lucky man, I was only 3 at the time but what a season that would have been to be a supporter. Think we only lost 3 games all season, and 2 of them were to Dundee Utd !

I was thinking about Ambrose playing as a defensive midfielder. But then I have nightmares of him waltzing past a couple of players, running into another and leaving 4 Maribor players running onto our 2 CB.

Why all the stress about Denayer? We needed cover at central defence, and preferably someone who will challenge Ambrose/keep him on his toes. At the moment our cover is Mulgrew and Lustig but neither of them are centre-halves by trade, and if redeployed in the there it means we are stretched in other areas. He’s been scouted, the manager rates him – like every other signing, I hope he works out.

  20. Malarkey

I think the criticism of Ambrose is ridiculous. The guy is going through a bad spell. Where is the support of his team mates? He is left exposed all the time. How about people helping him out?

It’s meant to be a team and Ambrose is often the scape goat. I don;t like scape goats. We should be a unit. I would be shocked if Ronny leaves out a player with an 84% pass completion rate at the world cup!

I don;t read it like that at all. Ronny says he is a £10m player for nothing. Another crazy statement. Evene if we do get an option in the future to buy him we will have to pay top dollar.

Do we let £10m players sit on the bench? My understanding is Ronny will play this guy.

Be interesting to see if RD pays him tonight with VVD and redeploys Efe to midfield. I hope he works out too – RD must’ve seen something of him already I’m guessing.
