Legia less appealing, Man City under-grad

1542

Surprised we got two in yesterday, as Manchester City under-grad, Jason Denayer, signed for a year-long loan last night.  The 19-year-old has yet to play first team football so is likely to be considered as backup at Celtic, though reports are promising.

Not surprised that Legia Warsaw have lodged an appeal to Uefa to be re-instated into the Champions League, they have to try everything possible.  It has not been confirmed what ground Legia have appealed on, however, at the weekend, Polish FA chief exec, Zbigniew Boniek, suggested an appeal would be made on two grounds:

That only one member of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body was at the hearing to made the decision, and

That Legia were not given the chance to make a submission to the Body.

There are 10 members of the Disciplinary Body and rules state that decisions require the attendance of at least three, unless the case is “urgent”, when a decision can be taken by one member.  To defend their process, Uefa need to insist that the circumstances were urgent, probably citing the Champions League play-off draw, which was due to take place two hours later.

While the Disciplinary Body allow submissions to be made prior to a hearing, Article 34 authorises the Body to undertake a hearing without submissions and “in the absence of one or all of the parties”.

In the unlikely event Legia won an appeal on procedural grounds, a subsequent hearing, perhaps with more Disciplinary Body members in attendance, would take place, and would inevitably reach the same conclusion.

Article 21, paragraph 2, of the Uefa Disciplinary Regulations state, “A match is declared forfeit if a player who has been suspended following a disciplinary decision participates in the match.”  There is no ambiguity or lateral for the Disciplinary Body to exercise a different reprimand.

Legia’s appeals can carry on all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport but Celtic will not be involved in any future issues.  NK Maribor represent a vastly, vastly, greater risk to their Champions League aspirations.

  1. I see Izzy being mentioned in a few teams for the game tonight. I wonder if maybe RD may drop him. He has not been at his best since returning from the WC. Or maybe he should play in the middle and leave the defending to someone who is better at defending, any thoughts anyone? por cierto

    To improve the team?

Athletico Madrid didn’t have an option on Courtois but he ended up playing 3 seasons there as Chelsea were happy with his development, do Athletico win the league and come within minutes of the CL without him? I don’t think so

  4. Beefheart, ronny seems to think he’s ready for first team action, thers doubts about efe as a CB and to be fair he’s probably due a rest after the knockout round (world cup after all). From what he said there wasnt a lot of cometition for him as he was expecting to chaleenge for a first team squad allocation this year before city bought a £32 million defender and another world cup defender, I’d imagine his wages were modest enough 5-10k by citys standards and I doubt we are paying more than half that

If we don’t have an option to buy this Man City boy then what is the point of having him?

    —————————————————-

We don’t have enough cover in the centre of defence. He’s a central defender. Would be better if we did have an option on him – or if we’d bought a player instead of loan. But the alternative is not take him at all and remain without any cover?

I’d take that right now. Been a few seasons since we got such a convincing win in Perth.

I asked the same question after it was announced that UEFA were investigating Legia. I made the point that, if the player was suspended, he shouldn’t even be on the bench.

So yes, I reckon Legia were in trouble even if the boy hadn’t been brought on.

Alright guys, you are starting to persuade me about the loan guy. Still, we have money to spend. Use it.

  14. Just logged on! Does anyone know if UEFA’s decision on Legia’s appeal is today, and if so, what time is it expected?

  15. por cierto I can handle a poppy debate, mineshafter/happy clapper debate, songs debate but not sure I can do another five years of left back debate. thought Izzy played well in the two games I got to watch before the Legia disasters. Best form of defence is attack so I would keep Izzy and like to see Celtic buy in a decent striker. We do need someone to sings about. Will never be a great defender or goalie. A win tonight would be a good start to getting back to champions form.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Izzy won’t be our first choice left back under RD once he gets his own men in. Looking at Stromgodset team, he seems to like his full backs 6’+ who are primarily good defenders (like Lustig)rather than attackers. When you play 4-3-3 with wingers as he wants to do, the need for your full backs to provide the width going forward like Izzy does is less important than in the Celtic team under NL.

Start of league campaign. Two difficult fixtures to begin with for Ronnie Delia.

First the Scottish Cup holders. Tommy Wright is a very decent manager (maybe the best in Scotland), I wouldn’t have been disappointed if he had been given the Celtic job having seen some of the names we were linked with.

Then Dundee United who on their day are the second best team in the country and have a promising manager.

    =========

    Kevtic

Not 100% convinced Dundee Utd are the 2nd best team in the country.

The scoreline at the weekend flattered them and I still think Aberdeen are best placed to mount a challenge to us out of anyone.

Still, its good to see the fortunes of the ‘New Firm'(now Old Firm?!) improving, massive crowd was there at the weekend and there is a good buzz around both Dundee clubs.

Now if Dundee Utd spend some of that cash they have they might just become a real threat…

    To Aberdeen;)

  19. I got stick on here last night for saying I wouldn’t be against a replay with Legia on principle, as I believed it was a genuine mistake they didn’t realise until after the game.

Having read this morning that the player himself raised the question prior to the game, I would like to switch my position to saying:

Away n fling keek at the moon. You had ample opportunity to check things were in order and chose not to.

last mention of this, Ive been watching Celtic for 40 years now and Ive witnessed 1 domestic treble (the year we spent some cash on quality players). Since I was born we’ve done it 3 times. My negativity is based on statistics, though I admire your positivity. I have now spent 40 years of my life expecting us to win the treble, and make this 41. I’m not going to bet on it though

  28. Just some thoughts on the loan signing from Man City.

In my opion the defence needs to be settled going into the Maribor game. If he is going to play in those games he must play tonight and the rest of the games leading up to the first Maribor match. Barring injury we must keep the back 4 the same for all these matches. We have a new keeper too. They will need to gel before Maribor. If we change our defence more thanb twice before then I will be scratching my head wondering what is going on. Settled team from now on in Ronny. Make your changes to the line up small and in the forward areas. Messing with the defence too much is a disaster waiting to happen!
