Let’s have a change

375

Since Martin O’Neill arrived 15 years ago, the number of games Celtic have played with truly no pressure on is less than 30 (or about the same number we played the season before he arrived).  There’s almost always an angle when Celtic take the field, even after the league is won, whether there’s a cup final to prepare for, or a close rival to take on (as last week), or a trophy to collect (as next week).

But not tonight.  Tonight Celtic can take the field with a broader agenda than simply winning the game, we can experiment.  Hopefully we’ll not see players the manager doesn’t want, and there’s little point filling the team full of mainstays of the side.  Tonight is a chance of Darnell to continue his rehab, for Lukasz to give Gordon the night off, for (deep breath) Stefan Scepovic to lead the line!

Big Jason has had a fantastic season, but unless there’s enormous changes in Manchester, he’ll wave goodbye next week, so give Eoghan O’Connell a start.  It’s also an occasion when Ronny might want a look at Tom Rogic.  In fact, I want a look at Tom Rogic.

A change at goalkeeper, right back, central defence, centre mid and striker would give all areas of the team a fresh feel.  Let’s have it.

  1. Anthony Stokes and Stefan Scepovic, who is the better footballer?. both players are mid-twenties with similar experience. I have to say Stokesy is the better footballer by a mile.

He has won every medal he could wish for in Scotland and he now needs to show form on the European stage. Definitely a good man to have in the squad.

    parkheadcumsalford @18:53,

I concur totally – haven’t read the statement yet, but if it’s saying that then we have to take the BBC to book.

HOW do they come close to justifying £200M + on English Football – the huge majority of peak highlights. Which they inflict all over the UK.

    Jobs for the boys/girls –

Scots are over one tenth of the population, and I’ll bet pay more than 10% of the domestic licence fee income.

    A Disgrace.

    Hail Hail

They will simply justify it with the time honoured commercial decision line.

If you were thinking of selling your soul, just for the sake of conversation, and I am talking about your Celtic soul as opposed your socialist soul, or whatever other kind of other soul you might have, just your Celtic soul…

how much would you sell it for?

    Two free lunches at Paradise?

Three free lunches at Paradise an two free tickets to the next auld firm game?

How much is your soul worth to you?

    Your Celtic soul.

    Kit,

Celtic is but one, important, facet of our soul – it cannot be pared from me,or you, or any of us at any price – to allow that to happen would be to diminish us as people. Anyway, there’s but one entity that would want to buy it – can you say darkside ;-))

Never quite bought into the hype around Tom Rogic, always thought his background a bit too Corporate for me. (Learned recently that Nike now have their own “development”, no prizes on guessing how that will work out.) That said Ronny has been very complimentary about Tom’s efforts recently so maybe there is a possibility of him making it as a player. Nir Bitton has been transformed this season as a player, in a similar position, so it is up to Rogic to try and make that same step up.

The BBC is NOT a commercial broadcasting company.

Scotland pays 10percent of the UK license fees.

The BBC spends one 60th on Scottish football as it spends on English football.

How is this explained – given their non commercial status?

  7. Stokes has not had a game for some time and hasn’t been on bench for last few games. There is no talk of injury so its looking increasingly likely that his time is up. I would regard him as a good squad player and will be sorry to see him leave.

Main beneficiary tonight is Tierney, best of luck young man. As Jason is leaving, Ronny obviously feels no point in resting him so lets squeeze last couple of games out of him. Sensible call.

I expect Charlie will get a run out at some stage tonight.

    Teenager Tierney makes Bhoys bow

By: Martin Dalziel on 15 May, 2015 18:48

CELTIC youngster Kieran Tierney will make his full debut for the Bhoys tonight at McDiarmid Park as the champions travel to Perth to take on St Johnstone.

With the SPFL Premiership title safely secured in the Hoops trophy cabinet, Ronny Deila has taken the opportunity to introduce some fresh faces to his side for tonight’s clash with the Saints and has handed 17-year-old Tierney his first starting berth.

The left-back made his competitive debut earlier this year when he replaced Emilio Izaguirre as a late substitute in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Dundee at Dens Park in April but he will take his place in the starting XI for the first time tonight.

Lukasz Zaluska and James Forrest have also been drafted in as the manager makes a total of six changes for tonight’s penultimate league fixture.

For pre-match build up and live in-game Twitter commentary follow @Celticfc ahead of the 7.45pm kick-off.

CELTIC (4-2-3-1) Zaluska; Matthews, Ambrose, Denayer, Tierney; Brown, Armstrong; Forrest, Commons, Mackay-Steven; Griffiths

Subs: Fasan, Izaguirre, Guidetti, Scepovic, Rogic, Mulgrew, Fisher
