Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

Stuart Cosgrove just made a good point on Radio Scotland, that the Green Brigade have taken the heat off Leigh Griffiths.

  2. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

You know it’s all went wrong when the Plc are telling verifiable lies about Celtic supporters to justify there pervertsion for punishing and bullying the very people they should be protecting.

  3. “…we will be back in Celtic Park soon enough and that we will never allow our style nor our politics to ever be diluted.”

So there it is. The Green Brigade is about politics not football and Celtic Park is only the vehicle by which they deliver their message.

Who or what is “Brendan’s Undefeated Army”? Why the military connotation? Putting an image of Brendan Rodgers on a South Armagh Sniper at Work sign was irresponsible.

No one in the GB was ever involved in the armed struggle in Ireland. Spoiler alert: the war is over!

  4. Lol! Some real pish posted in here by self important morons with no filter. Love reading it sometimes! :-)))))))

  5. Anyhow what about this Rosenborg ? My recollections are they are a well organised team who don’t give away much at home.

    DD,

    what heat is that ?

Would that be the heat of being the victim of sectarian verbal and physical abuse, aye cosgrove is a deep thinker, well it rhymes with that.

    Anne…,

I’ve never heard of the south Armagh sniper at work sign but I did see the Celtic view add for genius at work for Paddy McCourt, why is it ok for the Plc to do it but not the supporters ?

There seems to be a very low brow element trying to take over with abuse without any real element of logic or discussion simply opening their mouths and belly rumbling. I suppose it was inevitable that the blog would disintegrate to the kerrydale street level of discussion.

I’ve had enough of these attention seeking wee arseholes who think they can do whatever the f they want regardless of the consequences. Abide by the rules of the stadium or GTF

Interesting aside is that the UEFA referee observer on Wednesday Alain Hamer of Luxembourg is the same man who refereed the Celtic v Inverness league match when the SFA Lodge 666 (referees) had their Dallas-led strike following Dougie, Dougie-gate in autumn 2010

  17. clogher celt on

I don’t think this was ever just a 2 match closure of the Sect 111 Area.

    Celtic Statement

“CELTIC FC is to close the ‘Green Brigade’ section of the stadium for the next two matches after serious incidents of unsafe behaviour at the last two competitive matches at Celtic Park.

The Club is writing to the 900 season-ticket holders affected to explain the Club’s position and next steps…”

“Unfortunately, due to the events at the Hearts and Linfield matches, the Club is not satisfied that the Green Brigade section can be operated safely at this time.

The Club will continue to investigate the events at the matches in question and to address the issues that arose. The Club will seek to engage with the supporters in the Green Brigade section to re-establish the necessary communication and engagement to permit supporters to be readmitted to the section and for it to be operated safely, in consultation with the Safety Advisory Group. If that cannot be achieved, then the Club will require to examine other options.”

With the GB’s Statement today they are poles apart. The GB opposed the decision not to sell tickets for the Belfast game. They have lost confidence in the Plc and given what we now know from the Club Statement conversations had been conducted in the background since the Hearts game with GCC and others.

The 2 Match Ban was never the end of the matter IMO. It’s another squirrel, the Plc want the GB out. This is an opportunity to silence dissent

It wasn’t about an apology but about Celtic Plc, Police Scotland and Glasgow City Council controlling the agenda. All masked with Health and Safety as camouflage obviously. The GB were dead men walking from the Hearts game unless the kowtowed.

Very convenient timing with the Plc about to take on industrial scale cheating in Scottish football.

  18. Canalamar.

I don’t ever remember anyone from the GB ever asking if they could do a Res12 kind of poster in support of rooting out cheating?

It never bothered me as none of the other recognised groups got involved until this year either but it’s a bit hypocritical to accuse Celtic of not doing what the GB didn’t do either in their statement.

  19. GORDON64 on 22ND JULY 2017 6:28 PM

Anyhow what about this Rosenborg ? My recollections are they are a well organised team who don’t give away much at home.

By all accounts they are not as good as they were last time we met. 5 points clear, half way through the Norwegian season but we should be beating them. The only problem we should have against any of the Scandanavian teams at this time of year is our rustiness and the fact they are up to speed.

    Rosenborg will be tough opponents.

They’re a very tall team with a threat from set pieces. Goals aplenty from midfield.

    Formidable record at home.

More than halfway through their league season.

We’ll need to establish clear daylight at Celtic Park as our away form in Europe is not to be relied upon.

A performance on Wednesday like the first half v Beer Sheva would be just the ticket. Fingers crossed.

I can’t answer for the CT…………… but you can answer for yourself.

You must have thot about what you would do if the suits do feck all and allow the cheating & the corruption to carry on, I will wager every single supporter has thot about this, you are not unique in not thinking about it, you often tell the blog about how their cheating bothers you, so it stands to reason that you will have go through the scenarios in your head.

That is an interesting bit of info.

Always remember the Inverness match being the only SPL game I’ve seen where the players quickly realised that the usual kicking and pulling wouldn’t be tolerated. It was refreshing.

    Auldheid,

And who exactly should they ask ?

Are you saying they need permission from someone ?

You’ve no really been following the discussion have you.

I thought I was quite clear on the Green Brigade that they are a construct of the board, banners that create division and distract from the current issues in Scottish football are exactly what this board and their business partners at hampden need. Division within the Celtic support and derision from the national press.

I was questioned today, in Cambodia about a Celtic statement and potential for areas of the stadium being closed at our next European game. My response was asking if there was any mention about the overt corruption at UEFA and the SFA, strangely enough it wasn’t mentioned, now how did that news not get sent half way round the world but a banner managed it ?

I’ll tell you because that the news the Plc wanted to get half way round the world.
