Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

I would like to think we are better than we were when we played Molde – the nadir of this decade in Europe for us IMO

I have read a lot of stuff that we look better than at this time last year and we were able to get last Qarabag and Astana who on paper – and at the bank- are better than Rosenborg. But as a test thid still seems formidable

I doubt you will have to wait long, there is a spfl meeting next week and they will tell the world that they intend to do sfa, then our board will follow suit sighting there is no apatite for it and they can’t do it on their own, which we all know is bolix.

  8. I don’t know what statement people read today, but in the one I read the GB basically told the board to do one, told UEFA to do one, told the police to do one and told their critics in the Celtic support to do one. If there was anyone in that statement they missed, someone enlighten me.

They’ve said, in plain and simple language, that they do not care what consequences accrue to the club for their actions. In my view that fully vindicates the club’s decision to close the section, and if they decide to go even further I will not have any complaint.

And the GB can’t have any complaint either.

I watched a little bit of the Rosenborg game against Dundalk. Even though I am usually only confident after the event as regards Celtic, this time I am very confident. If we take our chances, we will win comfortably at Home.

As regards the atmosphere, I would imagine others will step into the void left by the absence of the GB.

Of course not. I’m suggesting that if they were indeed interested in doing what the accuse Celtic of not doing they could have offered to help if it was an issue they cared about.

Given the publicity the GB can generate with a clever banner it’s a pity they did not get in touch via CST or CSA to offer help.

Had who represents them been known we might have sought their help but I’ve no idea who speaks for them.

As I said I just accepted Res12 was not a top priority for the groups and got on with it, but to accuse Celtic of something they appear to think important, but not important enough to engage in smacks of hypocrisy to me.

However if they get in touch and if Res12 has not been closed they would be good to have as onside as the CSA and CST have become.

I rarely post – I am compelled however, due to the astonishing arrongance of the arrogance of the GB. They have put themselves first and the club second. The no man is bigger than the club philosophy most certainly does not apply in their tiny minds. “Surely there are enough Celtic songs without introducing religion or politics or anything else” Jock Stein.

Agreed James, I’m incredulous that the GB chose not to apologise to our Manager. Unfortunately in light of todays statement, the Club now has to look beyond the initial two match closure of the section.

It is amazing the amount of ‘infrequent’ posters who are on here crucifying the GB.

  25. When applying rules they have to be applied evenly without favour.

And all of them have to be applied, to everyone, not just the ones which suit, nor on those who you would see punished.

Otherwise the rules are redundant and irrelevant.

If you don’t have to live by the rules why should I?

That doesn’t mean I think the GB are correct, on this occasion, I don’t, they have to compromise.

Did we ever get a PL STATEMENT after the 5:1 game, when they publicly trashed the toilets?

  27. i’ve noticed a very ageist trend coming into some posts. So what does that mean? If your over 65 you have no say? That you should shut up and take whatever the youngsters give you regardless of experience and contribution? Seems a strange philosophy to me. I learnt more from my dad in the last two years of his life than I have anywhere else. When i was eighteen i thought he was an old fart and never listened. when i was thirty it all made sense!! Unfortunately I had lost him by that time.

  29. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Auldheid and JF,

There was a single piece of information in that statement that says everything I need to know about our board.

They blamed Celtic supporters for blocking passageways when it was their own security forces who were responsible for blocking passageways, that was verified independently on here today, so to be quite honest I am disinclined to believe a single word of the boards statement and who they are actually punishing here.

The board know every Green Brigade member by name so why are they not being more selective and just with the punishment ? Why if they know exactly who the Green Brigade are, don’t they simply ban those responsible ? And allow the other 820 innocent supporters retain their seats ?

It’s no rocket salad is it, two reasons are obvious to me, the GB were not responsible and the motive was to create an incident big enough to vilify the GB and distract from the corruption.

Stitch up written all over it.

‘IMO, I would say that at this moment in time after reading that buckfast statement from the uni Ultras CFC will be looking at other options.’

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

The point is Tony the GB knew (or perhaps before the Linfield game) from the Plc’s statement about ‘other options. this wasn’t about 2 games. This was curtains.

They might be only 80 strong but the Plc have used the GB as cheap labour for years. They have even allowed the GB access to the stadium to put together their displays. Watch the video of Sevco 1-1 banner being constructed on club premises.

    ________________________________________________________________________________________

    James Forrest,

I hope you are well. From reading the Plc’s statement yesterday do you think that this was a 2 game ban or simply the end of the line for the GB. The Plc simply taking their first opportunity to do them at this convenient time. This isn’t the first display in questionable taste.

The timing of this is a concern and very convenient.

Why wasn’t this Section put on a public warning after the Hearts game?

Why weren’t we told the possible refusal of the Safety Cert?

Where are the minutes of the meetings with GCC?

Who blocked the exits on Wednesday? What has this got to do with the GB?…and so on…
