Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

Get we’ve been sanctioned by UEFA mate and the section has been closed for two big games,900 people relocated and Brendan weighed in with his disappointment, how can you say nobody was hurt?

Brendan Rodgers didn’t appreciate the banners, I’m sure Ronny Deila wouldn’t have cared if he was depicted this way.

Ronny’s family don’t live in Antrim and he wasn’t Celtic class.

I anticipate it being a strange atmosphere at CP on Wednesday. Hopefully TD and co will replace the GB and lead the singing. The board have certainly given our opponents an advantage before a ball is kicked. Hh

Now I am still concerned with Celtic’s statement, to be honest struggling with this

Why are we employing Stewards and paying the police in our stadium if they cannot keep passageways clear ? Now that needs answering

2ndly, I’ve already stated I disagree with flares

    But

The statement said these set of fire alarms and had the fire brigade called out

Can I ask, if this had been the case, from a H&S perspective, why was the stadium not evacuated ? Where did the alarm go off, who controls the stadium evacuation then ???

Why do the fire brigade turn up at probably around 75% of our home games, what is causing this, what precautions are being taken to ensure spectators are safe in these instances

Over to you Celtic PLC and this Safety Advisory Group

Sorry to many holes to be picked out of Celtic statement for me

Bada, with your background, any idea ofthe process/ procedures witha fire alarm going off during a game ?

Incidentally, dentally this applies to. Stadiums in Scotland

  6. Stairheedrammy on

There are around 300 in the GB with fewer members active between games. They have been instrumental in driving forward the safe standing area and many others who are in that area were attracted there by the atmosphere the GB generate. Look around the stadium on match days and the large number of kids in the ground are dressed like the GB and watch them at least as much as the game. They are far more influential on the development of our support than the pension age wind up merchants getting their rocks off on here over the past couple of days bleating about them. They got the banners wrong but calling out the boards lust to criticise tims while accepting all sorts of abuse from huns was a fair call.

I can see the funny side to the banner and hopefully Brendan will appreciate the mischievous nature of youth getting it all wrong.

    Seriously, no.

How can you? How can anyone? What’s the purpose?

As far as I’m seeing it’s had the OPPOSITE effect of distracting people; it has, in fact, galvanised a lot of folk to say “you treat our fans like this but you let THEM away with ten years of fraud??”

if it was intended as a distraction whoever did it was a moron, because anyone could see that’s what the result of it would be.

Let me ask you another question; is there someone who was in favour of title stripping yesterday who, in light of the last 24 hours has said “well I don’t think Rangers should be punished after all now …”?

So, no. It’s not a distraction. Because some of us can confront two separate issues at the same time, and a lot of us have a hell of a lot MORE to deal with in our lives on top of that.

  14. !!Bada Bing!! on

Canalamar- me too, but the image had past been used as we now know a few years ago. There was a lot of Irish Bhoys posting on here years ago, they mostly said when they came to CP, the last thing they wanted to hear was IRA songs (not a songs debate please), these guys had active service in Ireland, and wanted to leave it behind.I am mid 50s, my mum was from Glenties ,Donegal, a huge amount of our support have a Celtic heart, and know about the issues we are still dealing with in Scotland ffs.We need to remember the past proudly, but we need to move forward.Banners like we seen on Wednesday, have no place at Celtic Park IMO.I don’t know if it is too late now for the GB to be a part of , potentially one of the best periods in our history. Bhoys will be bringing up a lot of recent issues which the Board has bottled speaking out on, talking about behaviour of away fans at CP.The GB have had enough warnings, we as a support cannot be collectively demonised by a group of around 100 fans.HH

  15. With all respect to some people on here, this is no longer even ABOUT the banner and the flares … the issue now is about the fact we have a supporter’s group who has told the club in no uncertain terms that they will defy the law, they will defy the football authorities, they will defy the club itself to whatever extent they like, and “what you gonna do about it?”

This has moved on from Wednesday. We’re in another place entirely today. The club’s authority has been openly challenged, by people who have said, in plain language, that they will do what they want and that the rest of the Celtic support can get behind them or get stuffed.

We have people openly saying they will behave in a dangerous, reckless and even criminal manner … and consequences be damned.

I’m not sure what people expect the club to do about that other than the obvious.

    Campbell Corrigan

to go and, do one…..when the GB were summoned to a meeting at Celtic Park to discuss, sectarian songs being sung at our stadium.

The GB issued a statement that, outlined the “fact” that, Celtic supporters don’t sing sectarian songs so,the GB would not be attending any such meeting.

Days later, Campbell Corrigan and, Paul McBride QC, were pictured inside the Celtic boardroom in the ET with the accompanying quote from CC which said…..

CC – “I’m going to “smash” the Marxist Green Brigade !”

    In a matter of days…….

Celtic PLC, meekly, like frightened sheep, attended a, Govt Summit, called after the Shame Game where, Celtic got 3 players booked and, the Orange Masonic Scotland, went into melt down because, Neil Francis Lennon’s Celtic team, put Walter the myths huns oot the SC.

Then the PLC, threw NFL under a bus and, the Orange Masonic establishment, pinned the entire blame of the Shame Game onto NFL.

And, much worse than all of that,…….to this day,…..53,000 Scooby-doo! Celtic supporters, still hand their tens of millions of quid, over to a cabal of swivel eyed custodians, of what will never be – they’re club….sleekit Fergus saw to that, eh.

Now the Plc who are making the big deal have expanded the guilty numbers from a possible maximum of 80 to 900 people which portrays the Celtic support as unreasonable and unstable. Very similar to a paranoid label and to me preparation for returning to that label. The Celtic support will be portrayed as unreasonable with questionable moral standards then it’s easier to dismiss calls for justice as just an old firm issue that the rest of Scottish football Would rather put behind them but them bitter Terrorist supporting Celtic supporters just won’t let it go.

Oh and a reminder about who is making most of the noise, it’s not the press or UEFA it’s our own club that’s vilifying and exaggerating the numbers here.

We have a brillaint manager in place ,we have a great invincible team who have just won all of their domestic trophies and swatted all opposition away in the process ,recording famous victories against staunch rivals which will be sung about in many a pub/club/stadium in the future…We have added some potentially great talent in our squad this window and just won our first qualification round to the Champions league riches. Its a great time to be a Celtic supporter.

How come all the publicity on the msm and Celtic forums is negative and everyone falling out on Hoops sites is making the headlines?

And yet the staunch opposition are allowed to sing about murdering catholics, abuse black players, attack our players and managers during the game, throw large batteries ,coins, lighters and bottles at our players and subject them to sectarian abuse every time we play them.

And they report it as banter in the Scottish main stream media….

    Famine song …every occasion,

    Pedo references…every occasion

    Up to our knees…every occasion

We are on the verge of something great with Brendan Rodgers and his team and all we see is negative shite !!!

MSM has a lot to answer for but so does the GB who are loved by all decent Hoops fans and probably the team as well.

But can you please stop the Pyros and offensive banners now that our club and manager have asked you to?

Everything else you do is just magic.

  26. CANAMALAR IT LOOKS LIKE OCD OBSESSION:

Nope, not letting you away with that one :)

First, there 60,000 Celtic fans. Closing a section and keeping 900 away from the game does NOT in any way shape or form portray 60,000 fans and the rest of us as “unreasonable and unstable.”

I’ll put this as bluntly as I can; the GB statement today was WHOLLY unreasonable AND unstable.

It was a joke. It was a communique from people who have lost touch with reality.

  27. Interesting that no one seems to have spent anytime focusing on the fact that today one of the few major clubs that we had hoped might support Celtic in majing a statement re the EBT ruling has declared no interest in so doing.

Aberdeen have restated intent to look forward and not back. This appears to be against the noisy on line fan base on this subject but unlike our board who have made a statement it appears they won’t.

This would indicate any manoeuvrings of celtic to have the matter dealt with through formal football channels will fail.

No amount of public statements will change this. One club cannot out vote 41.

Other than celtic fans independently seeking a judicial review can someone please tell me what anyone thinks the club can do to address this matter positively ? I am assuming everyone does realise that resorting to legals by the club is against uefa regulations.

Any bright ideas from malcontents other than PL standing in Buchanan St saying ‘Rangers were cheats’ would be welcome.
