Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

Uefa would not get involved in matters of domestic jurisdiction. If celtic were to resign they would have no interest at all.

  2. COWIEBHOY:

Yeah the franchise route would work. There’s no question that it would be wholly legal and that the EPL could do the sum total of nil about it. We fall short in one area, and that’s the geographical location of the stadium, but I always believed that would never stand up in a courtroom with the UK technically being one unitary political entity.

There’s one huge hole in … to subsume some other club’s identity means that we become them, not that they become us. No matter what strip they wore or name they called themselves, Celtic, in England, having bought our way in via the murder of another team, would be a well funded Sevco and nothing more.

No history. No honour. No trophies except that which the team we bought had won … a complete cutting of the cord. For money. For a chance to pay a football £400,000 a week.

    JF,

I never asked you any questions, what actually happend is you failed to see how this could possibly be a distraction, I explained how it could and you refused to contemplate that you could it could be a distraction.

You then spent pretty much all your time trying to control the narrative and dismissing the lies told by the Plc as insignificant while vilifying a buch of halfwitts for a statement that betrays exactly the level of intellect we are dealing with ffs and they keep outwitting our Plc by smuggling in massive banners up their jukes. Auldheid is asking why they haven’t done more to assist the res12 cause, can you lot no read ffs, did you read that statement does it sound like it was written by a cerebral mastermind.

But they outsmarted the board and the security forces she right.

  4. Why are we employing Stewards and paying the police in our stadium if they cannot keep ‘away supporters’ in their seats and stop them from standing in a seated area? Now that needs answering if were talking health & safety.

Dont underestimate the power of the ‘brass neck’, its shameless.

Id suggest we come to some common agreement pretty sharpish, because we are being battered from all sides by those who hate us.

We need solidarity or these feckers will toast us.

Lets fight this, truth and justice is something we can all get behind.

Both you are James Forrest are quoting something I NEVER said.

I said we could bring scottish football to it’s knees and we could, hold a presser tell the world what has gone on, I can’t see uefa or anyone else harming us for wanting honesty and integrity, it’s what uefa stands for after all.

I NEVER mention resigning from anything, both you and James did, I never.

The media in scotland will try but for the life of me I can’t see them managing to defend cheating and corruption.

But at the end of the day it won’t matter to me, I promised myself that I wouldn’t put masel through the shit if they are allowed to win and it carries on same old, same old, why should I pay to give masel a stroke knowing they are laughing at us.

  12. Now that the Linfield debacle is over can we now expect some clarity re the PSNI statement before the first game and CFCs response to it, someone’s not telling the truth here imho.

  13. James, leave our 2nd ( under 21’s) team playing in Scotland ? Sure they will do well in the SPFL

  14. THE GREEN MAN SAYS SACK THE BOARD:

I agree in one sense. But I disagree that we’re getting battered from all sides … although I know why it feels like that today. What we have, actually, are two strands of the Celtic Family falling out, and one of them has basically just pissed all over the living room carpet … which makes mediation difficult going forward.

But in actual fact, that aside we’re pretty strong and secure at the moment.

And if the club DECIDES to act then stuff will change, and things will get done.

And you know what? For all everyone might disagree over this GB thing and even on the overall intentions of our board, on one thing we ARE speaking as one …. and it’s that this “moving on” guff isn’t going to happen. The anger over this does, in fact, give this campaign even more juice.

Because yes, if we’re punishing our own and letting the guilty elsewhere get off scott-free then that’s just not going to fly at all.

  15. James

You obviously missed the summit then, I won’t bother you with the details.

My view, is that if we cannot have simple truth and justice, the game is a bogey.

We cannot just lie down to coercion and threats.

    That makes no sense.

If the PLC think they can ‘move on’, ive got to say, that is a fantasy.

    SHOOIE on 22ND JULY 2017 7:39 PM

Reading all the comments today and reflecting on it I feel the biggest crime if I can call it that was involving Brendan Rodgers through his image on the banner.

I have no doubt Brendan has asked not to be characterised in this way, I recall the day he was introduced to the support, on that day there was a chant from the crowd on numerous occasions ‘Brendan Rodgers F***** A***’ , just like Paddy McCourt.

In my view Brendan im sure nipped this in the bud and I think the GB somehow got the message and have not started this chant nor has any other supporter.

If I am correct and this was done at Brendan’s request directly or indirectly, then to have him on the banner shows a lack of respect to our manager.

    ——–

I was there when Brendan was unveiled and i remember the Fenian Army song being sung that day. I often wondered why i had never heard it once sinee that day. I’m fairly sure Brendan nipped it in the bud.

  19. DELANEYS DUNKY @ 9:28 PM,

Now you will know far,far better than me…

But the idea that the Green Brigade and all their followers in that section is 80 is to say the least disingenuous.

    There are hundreds…

They got a prime position in the “standing area” through negotiation. Remember they were on the verge of getting banned before this area was built. They got what they wanted… An Agreement.

This standing area has been a revelation in the UK, many UK Clubs want follow our lead…

The fans of all Clubs would love this.

The planning, time and money put in by Celtic to realise this area has been rightfully admired throughout Football.

Believe me, once we talk of H&S issues, many Club Directors are going to run a Million miles from this, a Great initiative by Celtic will go down the pan for what..?

    Hail Hail

  20. THE EXILED TIM:

In that case mate, you have my apologies.

Yeah I think the idea of our club making a full, public, breast of this is a winner.

This is going to have to be taken out of the hands of the football authorities … if the appetite to get it done isn’t there and the clubs won’t even back it then Celtic has to lift it out of the game here entirely.

And if there are mechanisms for doing that, I hope they’re being explored and they’ll have our full support, I’m sure, whatever those are. I think legal remedies – as long as they are kept within the sport – are a possible route here. Celtic knows what happened, the stuff that’s been in the public domain and the stuff that hasn’t … and I hope moves are afoot.

But yes, when the plans are ripe a public declaration is most definitely the way to go.

  21. Celtic still silent on cheating.. A bland statemnet to appease own fans.. I still remember being in AGM when they said Res12 would not be discaussed as they would take it up with the requisitioners. Felt sick in stomach. Move on..we have your SB money..

  22. THE EXILED TIM:

The summit wasn’t relevant to what we’re talking about here.

A lot of bollocks gets talked about the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act, by the way.

It’s a loathsome piece of legislation, but you know who else thinks it was set up to target them specifically? The other lot. And you know what? More of them have been charged under it than Celtic fans.

I don’t know whether a lot of people don’t know that, or just aren’t particularly bothered, or maybe they do but it doesn’t suit a certain narrative … I hate that bill on free speech grounds because it’s a scandalous piece of legislative over-reach right out of a banana republic.

I have never viewed it primarily as a weapon against our club and our fans. It goes out of its way to discriminate against football fans as a whole.

  23. fairhill bhoy on

JF-I’m no sure if you’re slapping me ,but just so you know I don’t make things up,but I do follow you, just tonight I think that in your talk with canman, your not right:-))

  24. Delaneys Dunky on

    Chairbhoy

The key word you used was followers.

The official Green Brigade members number 80. You cannot join the GB, but you can follow them.

Celtic know everything about the 80 GB members. Their followers, not so much. That is the problem I think.

  25. James

If the club do and say nothing, as I expect from them, what happens next ?

I reckon they have done their sums and come to the conclusion that they can stand a fair few thousand walking away, all for the good of the game so.

  26. James

I didn’t mean the act specifically, but you can bet your last penny that the politicos have been involved behind the scenes, blood of our blood etc……

Even some of the crazy decisions they have gotten away with via the courts, I would wager political involvement behind the scenes, the cabal will out at the end of the day James, you can mark my words on that.

  27. JF

    Slight deviation

I often wonder why none of the big English clubs have Not bought into a smaller SPFL team, and used this to play their vast pools of young talent, try to get them into a European competition for experience

And incidentally- I don’t want Celtic playing in the EPL either, doesn’t float my boat the money involved

  28. I saw on social media that Aberdeen’s new stadium is out for planning permission in a unionist local authority area and as someone else said Milne needs to sell houses in Hun territory. And/or maybe he likes his goat’s too.

  29. The Green Man

So you have no solution then. No suggestion as to a course of action which they can pursue which would keep our club in the ascendency ?

It is easy to play armchair QB. I have played my best games where I have no ultimate accountability. I can shout and rant at players as to what pass to make but never have to do it.

If there is a solution then please come up with it as all I see in your position is that celtic cease to be and our rivals along with those too weak to support celtics position will carry on regardless.

  30. THE EXILED TIM:

Well mate, THAT is the question. That is the tough one.

Because the standard remedies ain’t going to work here.

Boycotting sets the club back big time. Years. You want Sevco to catch up? Go down that road, and you’ll guarantee it.

Voting isn’t going to cut it because that requires having enough support … for all the talk of Celtic fans having a stake in the club we’re miles behind even Sevco in a campaign of acquiring shares on behalf of the supporters and with the way the voting structure works it’s a non-starter anyway.

We need to deal with the reality of those things in order to put on real pressure.

The key to this is the shareholders, of course.

The club has a legal responsibility to them. That’s something the PLC board HAS to take seriously and HAS to be wary of. I’ve often wondered what would have happened had the Res12 boys just said “we’re not prepared to sit on this one, let’s take it to the vote.”

Based on that, they’d have had options within the law.

We’ll never know, that particular ship looks like it’s sailed … or maybe not. But other avenues have opened here, and yeah I believe the shareholders could force the issue.

  31. Maradominic

What good will ranting and complaining about these things do exactly ?

Celtic is a fantastically successful team and we’ll run club at the top of its game. What value is there in these rants you suggest ? What is achieved ?

  32. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

The Plc could very easily make a difference and force the authorities to deal with it.

Refuse to compete in the SFAs and SFLs tournaments, it highlights there is a grievance and there is absolutely no rules that force any club to apply to play in a tournament they don’t want to. Hits them in the pocket and create bad publicity for the SFA and sfl
