Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

  1. At the end of the day all those who are backing the board are backing the cheating and the corruption.

It really is as simple as that.

Forget all the pish with uefa, if you back the board you condone the cheating and the corruption.

  2. Don’t see anything wrong with the GB statement.

Angry young men doing what angry young men do – standing their ground; making their point.

Perhaps the statement would have been more conciliatory if they felt the treatment meeted out to them was even-handed.

Perhaps if the people at the core of their raison d’etre had been less sleekit and followed their own code; you can read the GB’s truths there in black and white – don’t be selective.

They made mistakes, they aknowledge so. They blush with indignation and slighly overwrought bitterness born of frustration… BUT they also inform us of Celtic’s position; hardly innocent, questions of betrayal and conniving to answer.

Interesting as always that outrage towards a particular small group over a dubious incident of ambiguous intent can be manipulated to eclipse direct racial and ethnic hatred by tens of thousands towards our club, its players and supporters, their families and relatives, legends living and deceased.

But, y’know, fill yer boots with Green Brigade blood while the Zombie Hun squirrel runs riot with your sense of perspective.

  3. Go for it Celtic, put the frightners up the Ultras ..rses see how smart they are then.

Linfield vowed to seek ‘financial redress’ after they were fined €10,000 by UEFA and ordered to close a section of Windsor Park following crowd trouble during their Champions League qualifier against Celtic in Belfast last Friday.

A statement released by the club on Thursday evening confirmed the club has been cooperating with the Police Service of Northern Ireland over antisocial behaviour by a small pocket of home fans.

The charges related to two separate incidents during and after the game, which Celtic won 2-0 before winning the return leg 4-0 at Parkhead.

Linfield were charged with objects, including an empty glass bottle of Buckfast, being thrown at Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths as he attempted to take a corner.

A further charge was levelled against the club when fans invaded the pitch after full-time when Griffiths attempted to tie a Celtic scarf to one of the goalposts.

“Linfield FC shares the frustration of the vast majority of our many loyal and genuine supporters who have been rightly appalled by this negative and unwelcome behaviour and the punitive sanction it has attracted,” read the statement on the club’s website.

The club is cooperating fully with the PSNI over possible prosecutions and will seek financial redress from any identified individuals through the civil courts.”

    Bottom line is….

For as long as, there are, 53,000 season tickets sold at Celtic Park, and the club is custodially governed by a PLC board which, in the main is, populated by, out of touch, millionaires and, billionaires, well, Celtic FC and its world wide supporter base, will never know, peace or, justice.

    Its as simple as that.

Back of the bus rebels, will never know – justice.

53,000 Celtic supporters know that, Scottish football is bent.

And yet, a worrying amount of that 53,000 think that, Celtic FC is run by snowmen.

    So, so sad.

When will the penny drop ?

Will the penny, ever drop ?

Ah mean, how many of the, crowd funders of the “statement” in the Sunday Herald, paid 49 quid to watch this, apparently, new club ?

    Dear, dear, dear……

I really do have to laugh at some of the drivel I read on here about the importance and scale of the Green Brigade, there is 80 of them ffs. Given them their own section is the biggest load of shite I see blurted out, the Plc let them stand together on four rows it’s hardly a section ffs, there are bigger groups sitting together every week, the Kano foundation section is probably bigger, I know it has far more educated adults sitting in it and I don’t mean the supervisors.

People really need to stop reading some of the drivel posted on here about an insignificant proportion of the support who are an invention of the Plc to be used and manipulated to control the hard of thinking.

The bottom line is the green brigade regardless of the shite they spout do nothing without the grace of the Plc. If the Plc don’t want a banner or flares then there will be no banners or flares do the morons on here honestly believe in a controlled area like a stadium there is no control over who and what gets in or how they/it I deployed.

If the board do not want banners or flares deployed then they will be nipped in the bud long before the action is completed. Seriously people a you really this thick ?

  7. Celtic are bound by rules of SFA, SPFL and UEFA and cannot just make public statements or actions to satisfy us.

Read a post the other day, in the midst of all the mayhem – the team is going into this game with only one recognised striker, one recognised centre half and about 20 midfielders.

It must be amateur night again.

Obviously I blame the Green Brigade, however thon Peter Lawwell sure does like a good gamble.

And although the GB apologised they didn’t apologise enough. The smsm created this non story and its now a full blown crisis. Get a grip folks and see the bigger picture here. Hh
