Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

Ever hopeful that PL standing down and SR stepping up (to SPFL board) is to bring onside a proper independent review of the decisions taken.

!!BADA BING!! on 24TH JULY 2017 6:16 PM

This is not an issue for Crowdfunding IMO, This is an issue for Celtic Football Club , to take the bull by the ball$

Perhaps PL stepping down from SPFL board could be read as “if you plan to sink the ship, no point being on the bridge”?

Perhaps SPFL anticipate this and announce a ‘Review’ ?

Perhaps if the ‘Review’ turns out to be a sham, Pl will be ready to challenge any decisions of this and previous reviews ?

One key to the whole scenario is to bring the 5-way Agreement into the public domain (It was referenced but not disclosed in the Kinloch v Coral Bookmakers case). It is an agreement between :

o THE SCOTTISH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION LIMITED

o THE SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE LIMITED

    o THE SCOTTISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE

o THE RANGERS FOOTBALL CLUB PLC (IN ADMINISTRATION)

    o SEVCO SCOTLAND LIMITED

    https://www.sfm.scot/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/164607084-5-Way-Agreement-As-issued-to-all-parties-for-signature-1.pdf

It purports to contain undertakings from each party to the other.

If a copy of this document exists and can be set alongside the LNS judgement (below) , then we could assess the level of complicity of the various parties,

    Oglach,

I don’t think they are that organised maybe they saw an opportunity however especially with the ban extending to away games in Scotland and abroad.

They are no doubt hoping a good CL night and a signing or two before the deadline and we’ll move on and keep coughing up.

  3. this has been a sham from day 1 , there is only going to be one winner and it won’t be us

  4. Ann Budgie –

They will have a thorough look at the situation and let us know by Wednesday!!!!

    Help ma boab!

Well anyone expecting titles to be stripped from old Rangers is on to plums according to the Scottish news.Although we were cheated the person I feel the most for is the late Tommy Burns.Tommy built a fine Celtic side while the huns were cheating Tommy eventualy lost his job . I feel we were all cheated and in my opinion thet have got away with there cheating and it certainly does not dissuade others from considering cheating. H.H.

  6. One thing for sure this oul EBT review malarkey has fair deflected the attention away from ‘the board’ banning hundreds of innocent Celtic supporters from attending games.

Look a review I mean squirrel – just is it.

  7. ……we have been getting shafted from day 1 and still it still continues , will justice ever be served on the cheats?

  8. If the likes of Budge has briefed the SMSM that there will be no stripping of titles, I think the only way forward is for every other team’s supporters should boycott their away games and any SFA sponsored games, like Cup matches @Hampden.

  9. Just seen a report on the attack on Celtic fans by Ajax supporters, 15 identified and info passed to the Dutch, so they know who did it but wont prosecute them here, remind me what happened to Celtic fans in Amsterdam, and we are supposed to have trust in the Police and COPFS. Serious injuries by the look of the guy hit with a slab, attempted murder.

  10. STV are in bed with SFA and SPFL.

Grant Russell has had all the evidence of sullduggery for over two years. Failed to turn up at a meeting to go over evidence.

He admits to reading the TOG report but has never published anything to agree or refute and given he had a reasonable knowledge of the rules he would have refuted if he found cause.

Ignored advice in June 2016 to hold off saying anything until Res12ers had considered implications of the Traverso reply. Published an inaccurate report as a result.

E Tims have been pursuing him on his 20th June publication last year that omitted that UEFA twice referred to TRFC as a new club/company. The point being they are NEW regardless if new “operators”.

Broadfoot was evasive on the Traverso letter on Twitter yesterday and did not answer the question if he as Head of Communications should have corrected STV.

STV Grant has never gone back to confirm with Broadfoot what Traverso said in spite of knowing the difference and significance and constant prodding.

STV? Big part of the problem by actively distorting the truth.

The decision on Wednesday will not be about Rangers use of ebts, it will be about the honesty of the league in whose interests the SPFL Board have to act.

If they say no review they will have to justify or the game will present many supporters with decisions about what they are supporting.

  11. BROGAN ROGAN TREVINO AND HOGAN on 24TH JULY 2017 6:20 PM

    Good post BRTH.

I really see no point in contributing any further to Scottish football in any way. Agreed, I think this is the day when it was finally confirmed the game has gone down the pan? The governing body have been found to be at best inept, at worse something a lot more.

A team has been proven to have cheated for over a decade, and the rest of the teams in Scotland see no reason for looking further in to this matter.

A bent game, Scottish football is now the equivalent of wrestling. A sporting sham.

    HH Dan

  12. Given now the so called review has been clearly predetermined, in otherwords a complete sham/whitewash….right Celtic…..its time to get FECKIN BUSY !!!!!

I would suggest that since this so called review acted so quickly , Celtic do likewise and issue a very strongly worded statement BEFORE this so called review issues theirs on Wednesday ?

Firstly, Celtic should utterly condemn this sham review on Tuesday, as being g a feckin SHAM…….after that….its now up to Celtic board to stand up for Celtic and ALL Celtic supporters.

Celtic should NOW with immediate effect, refuse to handle ANY away tickets, and ask Celtic fans not to buy away tickets from other sources .

How about it Celtic…….or are you happy to sit back and do nothing and allow the cheats to shaft your fans yet again ?

The PRICE of Celtic doing little or nothing does not bear thinking about…I believe that tens of thousands of Celtic fans will starve the club of money for years to come, if Celtic don’t feckin wake up and challenge the corrupt mobs.

Apart from not renewing season books and ALL merchantdising in protest, Celtic fans would tell the club were to ram their UEFA champions league packages !

The LONG term price Celtic as a result of doing little or nothing g now, will put our club back 20 years, with the huns having g to do very little to catch up.

This is your moment Celtic…do not fail the support !

  13. Parkheadcumsalford

A one day, just one day, strike across the SPFL programme should be the start followed by away game boycotts.

It’s going to ask a lot of the regular away fans but if they want chang then how many games missed before SPFL come to heel?

  14. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

    Re Res 12 etc

I think the PLC board may well be at loggerheads with other football clubs in Scotland if there is anything other than an open and independent review with no limitations.

The resolution calls upon Celtic to go to UEFA not to the SFA or SPFL and just because Doncaster and his dad’s army of administrators are inept that doesn’t mean this won’t be referred elsewhere.

Further, there are others beyond those involved in Res 12 who have taken the time to make it known to the board that they will fund and press for significant legal and business pressure to be brought to bear if the Scottish Football Administrations continue to behave in an idiotic and unfashionable fashion.

Also, I have long stressed that Celtic are a PLC and that means there are minority shareholders rights. It is a moot question as to whether or not shareholders in a football club have a right of legal redress against any trade organisation or association which determines the right to trade or which unlawfully prejudices the football club’s ability to trade fairly and properly.

That is an issue to be tested and it is an issue which every football club in Scotland is terrified of.

Anyway, I am away back to my Gin and Tonic – I can’t be doing with this crap or the half wits who think you can just do nothing, move on and sit on your arse and expect us to all turn up full of smiles and good humour.

    It’s all bollocks

    Oglach,

We are still be cheated. I was able to post the below conversations from Rangers Media on here at 3.22pm. At that time some of the conversations were an hour old.

We are being made fools off.

This was well before the Chris McLaughlin tweets etc appeared here (I don’t do Twitter). Infact Celtic Bloggers were producing Blogs welcoming the Review as this conversation took place.

Peter must a crafty ‘dude’. Rangers Media are absolutely confident that we are being conned. A couple of examples,

“Lawwell’s stepping down from the SPFL board also isn’t coincidence. He’s trying to play with both sides of the bat. (As my blog (Record) you mentioned the other day alluded to) so he can say he had no part in the decision and can appease the moonhowlers in his own support.

1 hour ago, The Dude said:

They have their position set, certain individuals didn’t want to be attached to it being made public (Hi Peter) so they can save face with their own mob.,

Q)Rod Petrie has just said the new board will review Rangers’ use of EBTs.

A)They’ll soon release a statement saying it’s been looked at and they are happy with the action taken previously.

EDIT: Should also add, Petrie isn’t actually on the board.

It’s scotland and the cabal don’t lose, especially to uppity Tims.

But you will keep handing over your hard earned to the corrupt bastards, who are the fools ?

  20. THE GREEN MAN

I fear the game is already a bogey!

Although I don’t get to many games, I’ve had a wee count up of receipts for purchases at the Superstore at Celtic Park since Christmas last year.

3 visits with daughter, nephew’s and nieces at various times cost me north of £300, including £20 for Broony’s biography.

    It stops now.

Unless the board act now against the continued and blatant cheating, I am out.

    Full stop.

  21. It is official.

Scottish football is run for the benefit of one untouchable club.

Even worse, Celtic will happily go along with it..

  22. Sionnach Abu on

I take it it’s just the usulal standard of nonsense from Talk Sport. Anyone else here news around 11am this morning reporting 20m fee agreed with Marseille for Dembele?

Didnt here a thing about it after that first report yet they stressed at the time they were quoting Celtic directly?

  23. Sionnach Abu on

I might have misinterpreted but I dont think so.

She said today it’s now up to the fans groups to make their positions clear. The SPFL lawyers say they can do nothing more.

That doesnt sit well with me. Why cant Der Hun face justice for cheating?

  24. Rowley Birkin QC on

There is one way we can get the attention of the rest of Scottish football. Stop attending away games. Once the financial reality bites we may see a difference in their boards reaction to our campaign.

I realize this is a difficult decision for those who regularly attend away games and to highlight our disgust with the other boards in the spfl we can travel to the stadium and stand outside!

    just thinking out loud here.

  25. Listen, apart from a wee spell this afternoon after Petrie seemed to confirm that a review WOULD take place, we are, tonight, exactly where we expected to be this morning.

So everyone, take a deep breath :)

Things are moving outwith the control of the SPFL board. Celtic’s position remains what it was in the announcement. Fans are talking about working together and finding the best way to bring real pressure to bear. Nothing has changed here … we’re where we thought we’d be and a lot of folk are already looking ahead. We’ve seen the corruption confirmed, that’s all.

Long way to go. But at least now we’re on the verge of a clear-cut statement.

That gives us something to swing a hammer at.

  26. embramike supporting Res 12 on

Any whitewash of a review would likely precipitate I believe (either from Celtic or a crowdfunded Judicial Review) a legal challenge addressing the last 15 years of maladministration and would allow a skilled QC to expose the 5-way Agreement, the original LNS judgement and any subsequent findings, challenging their assertions and validity.

It would also allow the ‘same club myth’ to be systematical dismantled, breaking the spine of their collective desire to see RFC “continue” and resetting all SFA, SPFL and UEFA records accordingly.

We (plus Celtic and SFA) already have the letter from Andrea Traverso of 8/6/16 referring to Sevco as “the new club/company”. That along with Company and Insolvency Law should provide the head shot.

Once they have to accept they are actually a new club (stage 3 Kubler Ross) , despite this being an anathema to them, the fire will go out of their spurious arguments and perennial spin. No more Smoke and Mirrors.

  27. THE EXILED TIM on 24TH JULY 2017 7:17 PM

One positive I can see is the upsurge in posters advocating for boycotting away games, it’s the only answer sad to say.

The Celtic Board may also require a jab up the erchie with Wallace’s sword on this one.

  28. I for one will not be getting my knickers in a twist until Wednesday. So far everything being discussed is hearsay and conjecture.

Does anybody put any credence on the hot air that spouts from McLaughlin’s mouth? It is a well known fact that his alimentary canal works in reverse.

I will wait until Wednesday to see what is said and the Celtic Board’s response to it. I will not be making rash decisions until then, but if it is a sham and the Board are party to it then my financial support of CFC, apart from the non-Board Celtic Foundation, will cease. I have, for some time, fallen out of love with modern day football but hope and pray that Celtic FC will do the right thing again and lead the way.

I do not believe that the GB fiasco is a smoke screen created by the Board but wouldn’t be surprised if the SPFL/SFA have timed this announcement to coincide with what appears to be a division within the Celtic support – think about it.

  29. THE EXILED TIM:

Asking fans – all fans due to attend away matches on a given weekend – to give up that weekend to send a message of support for sporting integrity and a review of the governance … not too much to ask, is it? And if you can’t be arsed missing one week then I have a suggestion; the second a campaign like this picks a date, clubs who are in FAVOUR of a review will announce it … and those fans who’re boycotting elsewhere can go and spend a day watching THEM play instead.

Which sends an even greater message. Fans will reward clubs who care and punish those who don’t.

Remember, even if Celtic itself is secretly OPPOSED to doing something, this isn’t about big clubs or wee clubs, it’s about votes. Nothing more, nothing less. If we get 50% plus 1 even Celtic would be compelled to do the right thing, and based on their public posture how could they say otherwise?
