Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

I’d love to see a bhoycott of away matches but very difficult to organise.

I speak to Celtic supporters regularly who know nothing about the topics discussed on this blog.

How do we get them involved?

A leaflet drop at the next home game?

I can see HAMILTONTIM being the only Celt at first bhoycotted away game!

Hope your good lady is well!

We have better things to do with our money, than pay to be cheated.

We flex the financial muscle, or be slaves to the huns.

There is no other way that i can see.

    Away Boycott.

A leaflet drop at the next game? Yes, that would work. At every home ground in the top two leagues.

That would get media coverage, how could it not? And that would bring other fans to the message.

Needs to be thought through, planned, co-ordinated … but it’s doable.

    I’m reviewing the situation.

I’m a bad ‘un and a bad ‘un I shall stay!

    You’ll be seeing no transformation,

But it’s wrong to be a rogue in ev’ry way.

I don’t want nobody hurt for me,

Or made to do the dirt for me.

This rotten life is not for me.

It’s getting far too hot for me.

Don’t want no one to rob for me.

But who will find a job for me,

There is no in between for me

But who will change the scene for me?

…I think I’d better think it out again!

I’d just like to make a simple point regarding the GB. It’s possible to appreciate the colour and atmosphere they add to games at Celtic Park but have an issue with the banner and the statement.

The main purpose of the Green Brigade should be supporting the team on the field and improving the match day experience for all the fans. They have been successful in doing so and they’d be missed if they were gone.

As for the banner: It wasn’t in any ‘ambiguous’ or clever. It was an attempt to wind up the loathsome Linfield fans and it did just that. It didn’t serve any higher political purpose.

It’s easy to be a Castlemilk provo. You didn’t have to live through the troubles like others did but you can bask in the violent history and pretend you are some sort of foot soldier.

There is peace in Northern Ireland now. If you believe in a united Ireland then that can only be achieved via political means. Constantly harping on about past battles isn’t actually an effective thing for the nationalist movement.

The statement was a mudslinging exercise that did nobody any favours. There is a lot at stake in the coming years.

    ———————————————————————————–

That’s how I feel about it too.

The GB weans bring colour and noise but unless they’re prepared to do their campaigning out on the streets they should leave politics to the grown ups.

  7. Celtic have tomorrow to do something or they are dead. Finished..It may take a few years but who wants to support a club that styles itselfas a victim of cheating for decades then when we get evidence , even worse than we expected,,(think refs strike as well) we do and say nothing and vote Doncaster and Regan back into jobs. keep silent on 5 way agreement..,an illegal agreement would imagine if it favours one club against all others. Tomorrow print 5 way agreement have a press conference say scottish foot ball is corrupt, Only one person has said this and he died. PS don#t woryy about alienating other clubs they fucking hate us..TB once said “SFA want a strong Celtic…just not too strong” PPS was listening to a Well fan about McDonalds sending off at fir park for a tackle on Mil

  8. It would appear that the game is up and nothing will ever be done about the cheating. I believe the only way to get attention is to withhold money but you will never get supporters to boycott away games in any number.

It’s only natural that fans will want to support their team and I’m sure there’ll be many dissenting voices on this very blog if a boycott is proposed.

I’m not as pessimistic about the outcome mate.

I think it’s something that could be sold and that fans would buy. Yes some fans will buck the boycott and attend games, but what’s a win here? Empty stadiums? You think it’ll come to that?

Even a 30% drop-off rate is something clubs could not ignore.

One Day of Action and an announcement that another will follow … and you know what? Things will change fast. I mean, like that same day. I have total, 100% confidence in that.

So the trade off is , they are a new club, but keep the tainted titles? Can ram that one for starters.

Interesting , i think we should wait and see the Club’s response Ernie, they have all the evidence , the Rule Books, to work from, this is their time.If they fail us, they will get emptied too.

I very much hope you are right and that fans will respond accordingly.

  19. there is no trade off they are same club and won all their titles fairly any copmplaining and you will get the wrath of the refs against you. they control them.. Celtic had a chance to cleanup football. they didn’t want to DD could not give a fuck about celtic and will have made more money from us than any Celtic fan ever did

If the information provided to Celtic and shareholders to Res12 at last update along with what was sent to Eric Reilly in 2014 stands up, then Celtic cannot let this go without taking a case to UEFA.

UEFA have 11 Values and at least three have been violated by SFA and SPFL.

UEFA might not pay attention, but at the risk of violating there own values.

When folk say they will act in their best interests they have to decide what is in their best interests and my analysis is that it is in the short term interests of the Board to act and the long term interests of Scottish football for the Board to act.

However I would be open to persuasion if I it were explained why it’s not in Celtic’s interests but would not accept from the outset that one reason would be fear.

It’s a straightforward choice. Take evidence into account (all of it) and do the right thing or let the mob rule.

    Hi,

A couple of points if I may.

    1. A lot of season tickets are paid by direct debit. These can be cancelled.

    2. I would advise a little patience. So far we are getting agitated based on reports from Chris McLaughlin and Rangers Media. This has only just begun.

We’ve had Sevco supporters openly discussing what will happen next on a Blog this afternoon.

At the same time we’ve been welcoming a review announced by Mr Petrie.

They are rumbled, the whole stinking cesspit.

Unless things change dramatically with the Plc they are done, IMO.

Even if PL had told the truth there would have been something to salvage for them. If they have lied to us it is disaster.

(Hopefully the Huns are at it; and PL will surprise us all.)

  27. Let the title stripping arguement rumble on. We need Celtic and as many other clubs we can get to say to the SFA and SPFL that the new Rangers are indeed a new club with a history of only five years and that is how we will refer to them in in our match programmes, etc.
